Chapter 6
THERE WERE MANY TIMES since signing up with the knighthood that Zaina thought she would die of fatigue. The days were so long, and the training so arduous, that every night she went to bed early and had to be woken in the morning. Of course, it being winter, daylight was limited to a glimmer at the horizon and even in the middle of the day lights were on inside, and you could only barely see enough in the street to miss walking into other people.
Not that there was much time for walking in the street.
She had no time for anything, not her workshop, not the animals, apart from the eagles. She had to attend briefing meetings first thing after breakfast each day, and from then on it was a solid day of flying, training and looking after the birds, lessons in tactics, weapons train
