"Okay, Tash, you've got this! Just a little more height on that flip," Piper encouraged with her eyes fixed on her friend.
Natasha nodded at Piper with nothing but sheer determination etched across her face. As cheer captain, she needed to be an examplary example to the team. Natasha jumped, executing the flip with grace, her movements fluid yet controlled.
"Yes! That was amazing, Nat," Piper cheered loudly when her friend stuck the landing perfectly.
"Natasha, your form is improving," Couch Wilson called walking into the court. She moved towards the group, pride gleaming in her face. Placing a hand at Piper's shoulder, she looked at Piper, "Your guidance is invaluable."
Piper beamed at the praise, "Thanks, Coach. Just trying to help out where I can."
"You're doing a fantastic job," Coach Wilson nodded appreciatively, "And Natasha, keep up the great work. Your dedication is showing."
"Thanks coach," Natasha's cheeks flushed with pride at the coach's words and she moved towards her friend.
"Alright, let's run the routine from the top," Coach Wilson called out loudly and blew on the whistle calling attention to the group.
Piper moved to the bench at the call, a painful lump forming in her throat. She should be in the line up too, cheering and dancing. Doing the one thing that brought light and joy into her life but could not. Piper quickly wiped a tear that threatened to fall and walked towards the door, exiting the court before anyone could notice her distress.
Piper hurried down the school hallway, her steps swift as if hoping to escape the inner turmoil herself. Tears streaked down her cheeks, and Piper attempted to wipe them away with the sleeves of her jacket only for more to cascade down her cheeks. Despite her distress, Piper was glad and relieved that the school day had ended long ago and with the deserted hallways, no one could witness her current emotional state.
In her haste, Piper collided with something, causing her to stumble and lose her balance. With unexpected thud, she found herself sprawled on the ground, her heart pounding in a mix of frustration and embarrassment.
"Oh my god! Piper! Piper, I'm so sorry!" Liz yelled as she dropped to her knees to check on her.
"You!" Piper drew out as her shocked gaze transformed into an angry glare upon recognizing the person she had bumped into.
"Are... are you okay?"
Piper's eyes narrowed with a flash of resentment as she locked gazes with the figure before her. "Move!" She yelled shoving Liz away.
"Hey! Piper what the hell," Mitch questioned appearing from the set of double door. She moved to Liz side helping her up to her feet. "Are you okay, Liz?"
Rising to her feet, the tears in her eyes now replaced with a fiery determination, Piper glared at the two. The scene before her setting her even more.
"Piper, I'm... I'm sorry. It's all my... my fault," Liz apologized, "I didn't... I didn't..."
"f**k you! f**k you both," Piper cursed at them, her emotions having reached their breaking point. She roughly shoved past Liz and Mitchell with her tears now flowing uncontrollably like a dam that had broken its barriers.
"Piper?"
At the sounds of Mitch's voice calling out to her, Piper hastened in her strides. A sob pushed to her mouth, but Piper muffled the sounds with trembling hands as she struggled but failed to contain the overwhelming rush of despair and heartache. Piper felt a piercing pang of loneliness, as if she were adrift in a sea of emotions, with no one to anchor her.
"Piper, wait!" Mitch called out as she followed after Piper. She was worried.
"Stop! Stop following me!" Piper lashed out at the sound of the approaching footfall. Seeing Mitchell Wilder solely attending to Liz and remaining oblivious to her own distress only added fuel to her feelings of abandonment at the Wilder sibling.
Piper burst into the bathroom and forcefully leaned against the door allowing herself surrender to the tumult of emotions. Her low sobs cutting through the serene silence of the room.
"Piper!"
Her sense of tranquility was shattered by the sound of the doorknob turning and the door forcefully being pushed open.
"Piper! Come on," Mitch's urgent voice pierced the air as she pushed against the door. "Let's talk!"
Piper let out a bitter laugh, the incredulity of Mitch's request slicing through her like a dagger. She pushed from the door and moved towards the sinks, her hand trembling fiercely as she attempted to turn on one of the taps.
"Piper!"
The door burst open, and Mitch rushed in, the door slamming shut behind her with a resounding bang.
"Piper," Mitch cautiously called as she approached. "What's wrong? Let's talk about it.
There it was again, the request to talk and it grated on Piper's nerves, stoking her frustration.
"Piper..."
"Now you want to talk!" Piper snapped, her anger palpable. "What happened to avoiding me!"
"I wasn't... I wasn't... It's complicated," Mitch voice cracked as she tried to explain herself.
"Just," Piper exhaled the words with a pause, "Just leave me alone. Go back to pretending I didn't exist."
Witnessing Piper's sadness and tears tore at her insides, deeply affecting her in ways she couldn't fathom. "I... I can't. I can't do that," Mitch finally whispered, now close to Piper, her hand tenderly wiping away the tears. Being close to Piper made her feel like she could finally breath.
Closing her eyes, Piper was enveloped by a sense of déjà vu, the moment echoing a memory from the restaurant. "Why? Why do... do you care," Piper murmured, pressing the side of her face against Mitch's hand. "You... You hate me."
Mitch's heart shattered at Piper's words. Gazing down and deep into her eyes, Mitch whispered the undeniable truth that lingered in her heart, "I could never hate you. Never, Piper."
It was like an irresistible force, drawing her closer and closer to Piper. Her heart pounded hard as the distance between them slowly vanished.
As they inched closer, the air between them crackled with anticipation. A flurry of emotions swirled within Piper, ranging from nervousness to longing, and also a sense of vulnerability, "Mitch..."
Mitch gazed down at Piper, her eyes also revealing a mix of tenderness and longing that nirrored the emotions Piper felt. "It's... It's okay," she barely breathed out. Unsure if she'd uttered the words to assure herself or Piper.
Their lips met tentatively at first, a soft and hesitant connection. It was a delicate moment, filled with unspoken desires and the electricity of their shared emotions. As Mitch and Piper lingered in the embrace, the kiss deepened, becoming more passionate and fervent in a true show of their pent-up feelings and the unspoken longing between them. Time seemed to stand still as they melted into each other.
Piper felt delirious at the kiss, a rush of emotions flooding her senses. This, was everything she had ever yearned for and more. The world around them seemed to dissolve, leaving behind only the electric charge of their connection. This was their first kiss. A caress she had always dreamt of, a long-awaited desire that was now materializing. Nothing could compare to the overwhelming intensity of the moment.
The need for air surfaced as the kiss between Piper and Mitch lingered, their breaths intermingling as they reluctantly parted. Both were left breathless with their hearts pounding hard and in sync.
"Mitch," Piper's whisper filled the space as her eyes flickered open. She gently rested her temple against Mitch's as she too tried to get her bearing back. "We... We um..."
"We shouldn't have done this!" Mitch coldly cut in as sudden realization dawned on her. "You... And... And..." Mitch couldn't bring herself to finish the thought, the weight of betraying her brother bearing down on her.
"Wilder, what are you even talking... Wait, what are you even talking about?" Piper questioned in confusion as she pulled away from the affectionate hold.
Mitch stepped back feeling overwhelmed. She'd given into her deepest desire and crossed a line she shouldn't have. "It's nothing," she replied curtly. "Are you okay? Is everything alright with you, Piper"
"Why does it matter to you, Wilder?"
"You were crying."
"Something flew into my eyes," Piper nonchalantly responded. "Not that I care but you should go... You have soccer practice, don't you?"
"Uh... Uh yes," Mitch stuttered but her feet remained rooted in place. "I... I have to practice."
"Then go. Go on..."
Piper's words were abruptly halted as Mitch closed the distance once more, capturing Piper's lips with hers. Now that she'd gotten a taste of the forbidden fruit, Mitch didn't know if she'd ever find the strength within her to stop.
Piper felt herself being gently pushed against the sink, a soft moan escaping her lips in response to Mitchell Wilder's passionate kiss. Their lips fervently moved in an unspoken promise of something deep, profound. Something special just for them.
