Chapter 10 Now: Victoria stood by the open window in her third-floor room, breathing in the fresh, cool air of an afternoon rain. Much as she disliked England, these soft showers pleased her senses and her mind. She sipped her lukewarm tea, a bit sweeter than she usually took it, and wondered if Inspector McDuff had made it indoors before the rain started. A gust of wind brought the scent of her nosegay to her attention, and she removed it carefully. The tiny embossed silver vase, made to hold a small reservoir of water to keep dainty flowers fresh, had been a gift from her mother when they returned to England. Jaji had taught Victoria how to put it to far better use. She pulled the tiny blooms out and absently dropped them into a larger vase that held various flowers to choose from.
