For the first time all night, Adam isn’t thinking about music. He doesn’t care about the band, or getting back up on the stage again before the Lot closes for the evening. He tells himself it’s because Paul is with a studio, that’s the only reason he’s out here with the guy, the only reason he’s giving the dude any of his time, but he knows that’s a lie. It’s the way Paul watches him with those leonine eyes, like a hunter stalking its prey. It’s the way every word Paul says seems to be deliberate, weighted, like he’s been thinking about it all night long and he’s finally going to let Adam hear what he has to say.
