Chapter Seven Romans Even though there was a strip of dirty cloth tied tightly over her eyes, she could still see the road and the dust. She could see the long line of women, their necks collared in steel and joined by a long chain that ran through the rings on their collars and went to the woman stumbling along ahead of her and to the one behind her and to those further up and down the line. The procession of chained, collared English women who were mostly naked and bound, shuffled along the dusty road towards some distant point where the Legion would bivouac for the night.
