Mates of long affiliation develop a mate-empathy link. Aligning on the same frequencies, the mates engage in a constant exchange of perception, thought and emotion. To the uninformed observer, psychic conversation between mates of many years looks bizarre. Scant expression and gesture, interspersed by an infrequent word, are the only physical signs that a conversation is taking place.
