Isabella’s POV
One month later.
The anticipation of finding him, my second chance, was all I could think about, although I didn’t feel ready. I couldn't help but fantasize about meeting him as I sat up in my new bed in my new home. It all felt so surreal, I… Isabella Rose Holten had a place to call home. I was a somebody with a destiny and a chance at love again. I had to pinch myself to see if this was real.
“Isabella, get up…you’ll be late for your first day of school.” Gianna called from the other side of the door.
“Okay, I’m up,” I said as I huffed as I threw myself backwards, hitting my pillow. Gianna had somehow convinced me to attend the Silver Moon High School here in the Silver Moon pack. After we left the hospital, we drove to the Silver Moon pack right on the borderline of Holten. It took us two days to get there, and halfway there we ditched the car and Gianna brought another one right off someone, and we drove the rest of the way here.
“Breakfast time,” she calls out this time and I immediately jump out of bed this time and get dressed quickly. I dressed in my skinniest pair of jeans that Gianna had brought brought me the day before at one of the pack’s clothing boutiques, “Looking good girl,” my wolf Dillion howls at me…then I threw on a overly big crop top and my combat boots that I also got from the boutique, which by the way I was so impressed with it had all the latest fashion from clothing to shoes and much more. I think it was called Lana’s Boutique, anyway I digress. I brushed my hair quickly, throwing it into two messy buns. Then I grabbed my new backpack and walked out of my new bedroom, which was all mine, and downstairs when I spotted Gianna sitting at the kitchen table drinking her coffee and reading the daily news off of her tablet.
“You know you can watch the news, instead of reading right,” I tell her in a sarcastic tone. She ignores me and instead gets up and fetches me a plate of eggs, bacon and toast. I am so hungry that I wolf down my food.
“Thank you, Gianna,” I said happily.
“Nervous for the big day, would you like me to come with you?” she asked, concern etched in her voice.
“I’m good, I can do it myself, plus I don’t want to bring attention to myself.” I said timidly.
“Okay then, good luck and have a great day hun.” she said, offering me a comforting smile.
I got up and walked to the garage, and got into my car that Gianna got me so that I could drive to school and place I needed. Silver moon was one of the big packs and I could fly under the radar here. I still had to meet the Alpha and get permission to become a pack member. Luck for me, Gianna and the beta of the pack were close, so I got to meet the alpha and got permission to be on pack grounds, pending initiation into the pack. It was a whole ritual they did and only after research and then they needed the full moon to bless the unity.
I turn the radio to kiss fm as I drive to school and sing along to the song, which helps me to calm my nerves. I pull up to the school a minute early, pack the car and walk toward the entrance of the school, people stop and stare at me as I walk by.
My heart pounded heavily in my chest as I walked into Silvermoon High. I had never been to a school for werewolves or any magical creature, per say and I felt extra anxious about attending a werewolf school, as I had only ever experienced human education before. As I entered, the scent of werewolves hung in the air, a mix of earthiness and a subtle hint of cedarwood filled my nose. I breathed in deeply as I chewed on my bottom lip, it was a bad habit that I could not break. Silence filled the halls for a second as I walked towards the main office with my head held high.
“What do they say about showing fear to animals?” Suddenly wishing Gianna was here.
“It’s okay girl, I’m here for you. Don’t be afraid.” Dillion said cheekily as she wags her tail in delight.
“Oh, thank you, Dillion.” I said to her. Sometimes I forget how I have another conscious being inside me let alone in my head.
“I really appreciate you, Dillion, glad I’m not doing this alone.” I told her.
“I will always be here for you, Isa,” she said back. That made me feel warm and made me wish I had her back when I became an orphan. I was learning to love my wolf; she was now a part of me. The better part, and I still can’t believe that I am a shapeshifting supernatural being and a royal one, to be in fact.
“Do you think we'll meet him today?” she purred.
“Meet who?” I asked, not liking where this was going.
“Our second chance mate, silly!” she giggled.
I shook my head. “I don’t know Dillion, part of me wants to, but the other part doesn’t want to think about that right now.” I told her.
“Don’t forget, Isa, that we are to hide who we are.” She said after a while. I could feel the worry coming from her.
“I won’t. No one would believe me anyway”, I reassured her.
Dillion has explained to me that other werewolves can tell a high-rank werewolf by smelling them and that she was able to cloak our scent and make it seem like we were an omega wolf.
I entered the main office and looked around the room; the room was huge, and the walls were a bright shade of white.
I walked into the attendance office and enrolled myself in the school. I collected my schedule and walked out of the office. I am putting my schedule into the backpack when I smelt the most heavenly smell and then bump into a tall and muscular looking male who I think is my mate because he smells so good and Dillion is purring loudly and shaking... no wagging her tail happily,
“Mate” she said over and over in my head and I became annoyed. I pulled my hand over my mouth and I tried my hardest not to claim him. He looked at me for a moment blankly, and I know he doesn’t recognize the matebond.
“Excuse you, new girl.” I heard a female voice say as she pushed me away from the beautiful looking god that smelt so good.
“I I’m so sorry,” I said, not taking my eyes off this beautiful chiseled god standing in front of me.
“Do you know who this is? Show some respect,” she screamed at me as everyone stopped and was now staring at me. I looked up at the tall man, as I pleaded with my eyes. I watched as his eyes softened and then went hard again as he tried to ignore me.
“I’m sorry, I’m new here and do not know who is who,” I tried to reason with her as she stepped in between us. Dillion growls. As I find myself trying to reach out and touch him, he pulls away before I can touch him and Dillion whimpers sadly.
“How dare you put your hands on our future alpha and my boyfriend,” she said, and my heart sank into my stomach.
“Your boyfriend?,” I said looking at him, he had no emotion in his eyes.
“Mine” Dillion roars in my head and I try to push to the back of my mind, “I can’t go through this again,” I panicked as he looked me in the eyes for a second, confusion floods his face.
“Move you fat stupid b***h, or I will move you,” the girl said as she pushed me again. This time I hit my ass on the ground hard. The crowd laughed, and he looked at me bored, one last time before stepping over me and walking away. A boy who was standing behind this so-called future alpha looks at me and then helps me up.
“Sorry about that beautiful, he flirts…”Kai is just having a bad day, that’s all. Damn, you are gorgeous.”
“What a jerk…” I said fuming and ignoring his flirting “Wait, Kai… is that his name?” I asked in a, dazy and still reeling from the physical attack his girlfriend gave me.
“Yes, and I’m Caleb, his future beta and that b***h of a she wolf over there is my sister Dania, his future second in command.” he explained kindly, and I smiled.
“Why is he so angry?” I asked, concern etched on my face as I rubbed my ass.
“Well, he’s about to turn eighteen and get his wolf, and he wants to find his mate, and he doesn’t like it when random she wolves who aren't his mate throw themselves at him.”
“But we mates,” Dillion pouts.
“I didn’t try to throw myself at him,” I protested…the nerves and ego of this guy. I thought, as I looked back at him. His scent was destroying all my senses. He smelt of oakwood and vanilla.
“I know that the only reason I’m telling you this…”
“Thank you, Caleb, I’m Isabella,” I said, offering him a small smile.
“Nice to meet you, beautiful,” He said. He winks at me before walking away, trying to catch up to the rest of his group.
I turned and walked in the opposite direction. I couldn't help but notice the students passing by were beautiful and they looked as if they were ready to step onto a runway. Their grace and power were evident in every step, and their strong, sculpted bodies moved with an effortless fluidity that left me in awe.
I watched as they interacted with each other, their eyes shimmering with intelligence and understanding. It was a sight to behold, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about joining this new world.
I walked to my locker and applied the combination the lady in the office gave me. When I finally got it open, I took out my class schedule and shoved my backpack into it, closed it and walked away.
I walked to my first class, and as we entered, all eyes turned toward me. Making me feel self-conscious. Some gossiped about the scene early. I want to crawl into a hole or get swallowed all by the floor. I wanted out. I rushed to find a seat in the back of the classroom and sat down.
“Hi I’m Brokyln, you must be the new girl... Isabella,” she said.
“How did you know that?” I asked, giving her a small nod.
“This is a small pack, everyone knows who you are, new girl.” she scoffed.
I just smiled and looked down at my desk as the teacher came in and started the lecture. Soon I was daydreaming about him, his blue eyes haunted my self-conscious as I drifted deeper into my mind.
“Get a hold of yourself. He has a girlfriend.”
The bell rangs…” was I daydreaming for that long?”
I walked out of my classroom and bumped into the chiseled god of a mate again, I knew it was him as no one else smelt the way he did.
Kai’s POV
Today is my eighteenth birthday. I was getting my wolf today and hopefully I will find my mate today not that I cared. My heart has become numb to it all, the whole love thing just ain’t for me. I’ve never been in love or want to be. In fact I stayed far away from the she wolves in the pack except for Dania, one of my best friends and future head warrior, she was the best when it came to fighting and strategies. I never looked at me like the other she wolf did.
Anyways, I’ve seen how everyone around here acts like they are in heat and sleeping around with each other. I just don’t get the concept of having a mate or anyone, for that matter, it’s pointless. Still, all the she wolves throw themselves at me, and I am not interested.
“That's because you're a stick in the mud,” a voice came into my head and I knew it was my wolf.
“that’s not true,” I said defensively. “I just don’t see the point in it, that’s all. I don’t need a mate or she wolf throwing themselves at me,”
“Mate is special and different from others,” he exclaimed.
“How do you know that, I just got you today?”
“I have always been there, I have just been dormant until now. I sensed mate yesterday, but I could communicate with you just yet.”
“Oh okay, by the way, what do I call you?”
“Shadow, my name is Shadow,” he said, and I could feel that he was proud of his name.
After my conversation with Shadow, I went downstairs and headed to the packhouse dining room, where my parents were seated at the table along with some of the other ranking members of the pack. Beta Mark, Dania and Caleb's father were there with his mate Lucy. On the table was enough food to feed a small army with every type of breakfast food you could think of.
“Happy Birthday Kai!” They all greeted me as I approached the table.
“Happy Birthday Baby!” Mom said, as she fought back her tears. She and dad gave me a hug.
“You're eighteen now, soon you will have found your mate and be able to take over the pack,” he said.
“Maybe after I graduate, but I do not need a mate to take over...dad.”
“Don’t worry my boy, all in good time. Happy birthday, champ!" he says again as he claps me on the back.
“Thank you,” I grunted and then sat down at the table next to Caleb and grabbed a plate and filled it with my favorite foods.
“Shadow is a good pup,” dad said after a while as he grinned from ear to ear. I looked at him astonished. “How did he know?”
“Yes, Dame has already met his pup and won’t shut up about how proud he is of him.” he answers, reading the expression on my face.
“Now that you have your wolf, we can have a run together."
“Okay, Dad,” I said, getting up from the table. I was full and ready to get to school.
I got up and kissed my mom on her forehead. Then I grabbed my backpack and keys and headed to the garage where my car was. I hopped into my car and made my way to school. Ready for the day.
As I drove I thought about that girl yesterday, the one that bumped into me and claimed she didn’t do it on purpose. Her green eyes shot into her mind and my heart pounded violently in my chest.
I pulled into the parking lot of the school, parked my car and walked down the halls.
I headed to my locker, my fingers fumbling with the combination lock. Five, six…” What was the combination again?”
“Hello Alpha, Happy Birthday!” Some of the she wolves giggled seductively and they passed by.
I narrowed my eyes and gave them a half smile.
Caleb and Dania soon joined me at my locker.
I shook my head and sighed as I suddenly couldn't focus, my senses were overwhelmed by an enchanting fragrance that filled the air.
I was suddenly addicted to this scent. Cherry blossoms with a hint of orange citrus hit my nose.
I couldn’t help but follow it, panicking. I stopped trying to hold back the guttural growl trying to escape my mouth...
“Mate.”
There she was, the girl responsible for the intoxicating aroma. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was her, the girl I met yesterday.
She had a mesmerizing presence, her chestnut hair cascading down her back, and her features carrying an exotic allure that instantly drew me in. Her beautiful green eyes met mine, and I felt a strange connection, something I couldn't quite explain.
But as soon as our eyes locked, she panicked. I could smell the fear coming from her. Without another word, she turned and bolted in the opposite direction.
“What the f**k what is that, that has never happened to me before,” I stood there dumbfounded, and then I chuckled to myself.
"What are you waiting for… Chase mate! Want mate" Shadow urged, his voice filled with longing as he tried to push forward.
I wanted to obey my wolf. I was now intrigued and I thought about running after her and finding out why she ran away. I was now infatuated by this girl… What is this…the matebond? I was feeling things I had never felt before, but instead, I took a deep breath, clenching my fists harder, and fought the instinctual urge to chase her down.
