SHE KNOWS HER FATHER

1237 Words
Danny’s P.O.V.   I really didn’t know what to say to him. He offered me this job. I wanted to deny first. It was not I was helping him for money. I am just a taxi driver and I do have a family to take care of. But I was no heart to leave her alone here when she needed someone to take care of her. She was of the same age as my daughter. We even didn’t know her name. The only person who could tell us anything about her was her mother who was also in coma.   In past these days, I started loving her like my own child. Every time she had a bad dream, she held me tightly. Even in her unconsciousness, she felt relaxed in my embrace. That was also a reason, I accepted this job happily.   I could feel his pain. He saw her daughter first time in a shattered state. She was struggling for her life and what an irony, he had to leave for her safety.   “Mommy”, I heard her calling her mother in her dreams. “Yeah… princess… you are safe”, I took her in my embrace and stroked her hair gently. She was too fragile and so weak right now.   She opened her eyes and looked at me. She has very beautiful eyes. I smiled at her and kissed her forehead gently. “Sleep my child, you are safe”, I said to her lovingly. Now I was her caretaker, I could show my affection to her.   “No… bad uncle will beat mommy. I want mommy”, she said in a choked voice and tears started building up in her eyes. I immediately held her against my chest and stroke her hairs.   “No one is going to beat your mommy and you princess. Mommy is safe and sleeping right now. I will protect you”, I whispered with determination. She put her tiny hands around my neck just like my daughter liked to do. It felt like I had my daughter in my embrace.   “I am scared. Please call mommy”, she pleaded and it broke my heart. She had born a lot in this small age.   “Ok princess, let’s make a deal. We will go to see mommy and you will not cry. Then I will give you chocolate and a doll. Deal???”, I said to her and she pulled away from a little and looked at me confusingly.   “What is chocolate and doll, Uncle”, she asked me innocently and I had no words to say. I wanted to cry badly.   “Let’s go and see mommy first princess”, I said gently and she immediately stood up at her place. She trembles a little as she was very weak but I immediately pulled her towards me. She smiled and again put her hands around my neck.   I lifted her up and covered her with her blanket. Then I headed towards the room where Dr. Austin had kept her mother. She was still in coma and was on ventilator support.  I slowly opened the door and she looked into the room. The attending nurse looked at us and nodded her head. She stood up from her seat and stepped aside.   Princess held me tightly while looking at her mother in horror. Her mother was attached to so many wires and was very pale.  Any child could scare to see her mother in this state.   “Shhhhh…. It’s ok princess… mommy is not in pain. She is sleeping”, I said while rocking her in my embrace.   Tears were building in her eyes. “Mommy is not in pain???”, she asked me in a choked voice. “Yeah baby… she is sleeping. Look at her face. She is better than before. Right?”, I tried to comfort her. She looked at her again. She was scared of all these wires which were attached to her mother’s body.   She slowly went down from my embrace besides her mother’s body. She didn’t leave my hand. She slowly touched her mother’s face and a tear fell down from her eyes. I let her weep. It was their moment. She laid down beside her mother without touching her.   “Mommy”, she whispered. There was a lot of pain in her voice. My heart shattered into tiny pieces.  Why she had to bear so much pain. She stood up a little and raised her hands towards her mother’s neck. I looked towards Anaira’s Ma’am neck. There was a gold chain on her neck. I assumed that the baby wanted to touch the pendent lied in the gold chain.   “What do you want baby”, I asked her gently while holding her gently. “Daddy”, she whispered while pointing towards the pendant. I shocked for a moment. There must be a picture of her father in that pendant. I asked the nurse to remove the chain from her neck. She gently removed the chain and gave it to me.   I gave the pendant to her. She opened the pendant and yes… there was a picture inside it. I was shocked to see. It was young Alex’s photo. She touched the photo and said, “mommy said papa will come and bring us home. When will he come”.  She looked towards me with questioning eyes. I pulled her again in my embrace and kissed her forehead and answered her with a smile, “he found you and he will be here soon baby”.   It was almost 3 o’clock in the morning. I decided to call him. It would be good news for him that his daughter knows about him as her dad. But I changed my mind and instead of calling him, I sent him a text to call me as soon as possible.   I looked at the princess. She was sleeping peacefully near her mother still not touching her. The nurse has tucked in the blanket.   “She is so small to bear all this. I hope that everything get better as soon as possible with this family”, the nurse said to me while looking at the duo. I nodded my head in agreement and hope in my eyes. Then I took her in my arms and left the room.   Alex’s P.O.V.   I met John in the bar sipping his drink. He was at our usual spot. I went to him and greeted him. He responded to me and offered the drink. I was not in the mood to enjoy myself but I had to pretend. He was my best friend and somewhere in my heart, I knew that I could trust him, but doubt kills trust and that was the situation I was dealing with now.   “Why are you so stressed”, John asked me while sipping his drink. I looked at him because right now I was not anything else. So, how could I look stressed?   “It’s nothing. Something related to work. You know that the construction site of our forthcoming project in New Hampshire is facing some issues with local authorities. It’s a big project for us. So, I was thinking to look into this matter by myself this time. What do you suggest”, I asked him casually as we did this in the past on several occasions whenever we had any situation like this. We used to take each other’s advice.   “You have a team of expertise for these kinds of situations. Let them deal with it. You should focus on the deal, you discussed with Jenson’s last week. You didn’t tell me what happened there?”, he asked me, and lines on my forehead straightened. He never asked me about my meetings before.
