MONEY CAN'T BUY EVERYTHING

Alex’s P.O.V.   I felt weakness due to horror as if someone had drenched all the blood from my body. My heart went numb and almost stopped beating but my brain was working. She was hanging there struck in between a thick root branch and the floor. But rainwater was swiping the mud continuously. She could fell down into the pit anytime which was filling fast with rainwater.   I have to think about something very fast. I looked around for something. Something which could hold me steady into the pit. “Hey… Hey kiddo”, I shouted so that she could hear me clearly if she has not fainted. She flinched a little bit but didn’t make any sound. My heart was now thumping in my chest very loudly. I stood up and ran towards the bushes from which I crossed a while ago. I looked for something like a thick creeper or a thick long branch or anything like this. Suddenly the lightning thunderstruck the whole area and lit up the whole surrounding for few seconds. I heard her screaming. It startled me. She was scared.. God… please… please… help me… help me saving her… please God.. I prayed for any help. Tears were flowing down from my eyes with rainwater. I am a multi-billionaire. I held power.. money… fame… I can make anybody kneel in front of me But… But… But… here I am.. in this forest… not able to do anything right now to save my own blood. All of this power.. money.. is useless now for me. Here… in this forest… far away from any civilization… I am helpless.. My wealth… my power… can’t help me here to save my daughter. The voice of Anaira echoed in my mind when in the past when we were in college and I like to show off my wealth and power. “One day you will realize Carter that money can’t buy you any happiness. Your money will not help you when you need the help most in your life”, she had taunted me that time.   “See Anaira…. All my wealth and power are useless here.  My power… my wealth… can’t save our daughter here right now.. you are right Anaira… you are right. Please tell me what I do… please tell me.”, I cried harder. I don’t have time to go back and arrange anything… above all she didn't have that much time. My princess… she… she needed immediate rescue. She is just a child. I was crying my heart out. I was crying at my helplessness while looking for something mindlessly that could help me in rescuing her. I didn't know what I needed but I needed something badly here. Suddenly, a thick branch like something lying on the ground under the water diverted my attention towards it. I immediately picked the bush. It was not a branch but a thick creeper like something. It assessed its strength and length. I pulled it out of the bushes. It was long enough for me to go in the dig. I ran towards the pit and horror surrounded my body instantly. Her body was almost drowned in the water. Somehow only her upper body was left outside the water but soon it would go under the water. In horror, I ran towards the tree from where the pit had started and knotted one end of the creeper to one of the thick roots, and pulled it hard to ensure that it would not break easily. I immediately removed my raincoat, my suit and put them aside carefully. I needed them to cover my daughter instantly to warm her once she came out of the pit. After that, I threw the other end in the pit near my daughter's spot. I was the best scout on my school team and now after all these years… time to test myself again. Things were different here. Rainwater was dangerously swiping the mud under my foot and which was making the ground slippery. I needed to hurry as it was not easy to assume when the ground collapsed in the pit near the root on which my princess was hanging for her life. She was not moving, not even making any single sound, it was making me hell worried about her.   I cautiously started descending in the pit step by step so that my weight would not pressure the ground more. Step by step, I descended and in few minutes… yeah few minutes… reached to my daughter. She was lying unconscious in between the root hairs. Her face was looking totally white due to coldness. It shuddered my whole body. I carefully held her body from her waist. I needed both my hands to take out from root hairs. It knotted that creeper thing around my waist carefully with a scout knot and then freed my other hand carefully. I needed to hurry as my feet were slipping due to rainwater. I carefully but gently pulled her out from those root hairs and for the first time, I held her in my arms fully. I carefully rested her body on my chest. Her touch immediately relaxed my whole mind… not to say.. I felt peace in mind which was missing for didn’t know for how many years. But … this was not the time to get relax. I immediately secure her in my embrace and held the creeper again from one hand. She was too small and so skinny that I was scared that I would crush her if apply even a small fraction of force on her. I started pulling myself self-upwards with one hand but It was not easy. I need both my hands to pull me upward. I needed to think something immediately as the mud was continuously cutting down by the rainwater and soon the ground will collapse where I had knotted the creeper with root. Then the idea struck my mind. I immediately pulled out my belt from one hand and tied up my daughter to my waist tightly. She was unconscious. Her breathes were very shallow. Her whole body was freezing due to the coldness she had bear from god know how many hours.   Suddenly a big lump of soil fell down from the up with rainwater and I looked upwards. The soil was falling down dangerously now. I immediately started climbing up again as fast as possible with the grip of my both hands now. Soon we reached the top and I immediately put her body on the ground first and then pulled myself up.   After coming up, I immediately took her in my arms and ran in the opposite direction from the pit while untying myself from the creeper. As the knot opened and I threw the creeper away from me, with a thunderous sound the ground collapsed under the tree and the whole tree fell down instantly making the whole area shook dangerously. As the body of the tree touched the ground, the ground shook dangerously and I fell down with my daughter in my embrace. I immediately crawled down towards the near bushes.   My heart was beating furiously in my chest. I could hear my heartbeat now. Both of us were saved just by a fraction of a second. There was a large pit in front of me at the place of the tree. I was panting harshly.   Thanks to God… my raincoat and blazer were on the ground. I stood up cautiously and went towards where I had placed my clothes. My blazer was totally drenched but still, I could keep warm from inside. I put my daughter inside my blazer and put the raincoat above my head covering down my shoulders so that I could use it to cover my princess from the rain. She was not shivering as her whole body was totally numb from the cold. I gently pulled out hairs from her face. I admired her for few moments. With her body in my embrace, I walked in the same direction from where I came in. I was gently rubbing her back, her hands to warm them up. But I needed something to warm her soon. Her breath was not normal. I placed my hand on her chest to check her heartbeat. It was beating very slowly. I panicked. She was suffering from hypothermia. I needed to warm her immediately. I looked in front of me for something I didn’t know. I noticed a shadow-like structure under the thick canopy of the tree. I headed towards there. First of all, I needed to save myself and my daughter from rainwater. Here, the branches and fallen leaves were tangled with each other in a way that they were forming shade-like structures. I thanked god mentally.   I sat on my knees under the shade and placed my raincoat on my lap. I placed my daughter on it to save her from touching my wet clothes. I started massaging and rubbing her small hands, her small legs. She was so tiny. Her lips were looking white due to coldness.   “please please, princess…. Just hold with daddy… please… please…”, I pleaded in a whisper to my unconscious daughter. She hadn’t wear any warm clothes and the clothes on her body were already torn. I was crying again about the poor condition of my child. I didn’t need anything more than my daughter alive in my life. An idea struck me again. I immediately unbuttoned my shirt and placed my daughter’s body on my bare chest and then covered herself with my coat and then covered ourselves from the raincoat. I put my hands inside the coat and started rubbing her body gently. I was hoping that my body heat could warm my princess at least that much so that her breath would come on normal. I was continuously rubbing her back and I could warmth under my palms now. I was praying to God continuously for the sake of the safety of my daughter and hoping that Ryan would be able to find me here. Suddenly I felt something moving on my chest and my heart skipped a beat. She moved her fingers a little bit. A tear rolled down from my eyes instantly.
