1. Travel to Northland
“Jane, are you done with your packing?” Aileen asked her cousin who was sitting on her bed. “What’s up?”
She sat beside her with a beam that turned sour instantly to see her crying with her gaze fixed on her late parents’ picture.
Janette was called rogue’s daughter. Her father was a rogue and her mother was a witch.
Her mother found him broken and abused in the jungle near some pack’s border and took him with her to tend his wound.
Soon they fell in love and there comes Janette, as a half-wolf and half-witch.
Aileen was Janette’s mother’s very distant relative’s daughter. Her parents took Aileen under their wing when she was only five years old. They raised her with their daughter and trained them to be warriors.
Aileen’s heart clenched in pain to see her cousin in pain. She wished she could do something to help her.
She would have done something by then if her cousin didn’t stop her before. Sighing helplessly, she hugged her and squeezed her shoulder, saying softly, “Everything will change, Jane. You will see. Please don’t cry.”
Five years ago, Jennette’s father was coming from his workplace, at the time, some werewolves attacked him and killed him. That shock Jennette’s mother couldn’t take anymore and she also died a few months later of her husband’s death.
Janette was broken after her parents’ death, so was Aileen, who had no one except Janette and her parents. They still went through their tough time together, but that was not the end of their misery.
She heard Janette heaved saying, “Let me cry today. I promise you will not see tears in my eyes again after this day,”
It was a few days ago, Janette turned eighteen. They went to a pub nearby with their best friend, Cosette, who was a demoness by birth.
There unfortunately Janette met her fated mate who rejected her and proposed to his girlfriend in front of Janette which shattered all of her hopes of her mate would make her forget all of her pain by his love.
She ran, ran as much as she could. She would have given up her life if it wasn’t for the demoness, Cosette, who appeared in front of Janette with Aileen using her teleportation power. And that was it…
To forget their painful past, Aileen decided to leave the place, leaving bad memories behind.
Aileen about to say something, she gasped when the whole room shook out and there appeared a girl with red eyes in front of them. Aileen cursed under her breath and wiped her sweats because of the demoness’s heat that radiated the entire room as soon as she returned from hell.
Aileen seethed, “Can you please cool down, Cosette? It’s too hot,”
She can’t tolerate a heated atmosphere for some unknown reason which troubling her lately as soon as she crossed eighteen.
That’s one of the main reasons she decided to leave their place with her cousin, Janette, and also the demoness, Cosette, who would tag along with her for sure.
Everything was set. Their luggage was packed. Their apartment was sold, and food was packed. Money, passport, and Id Card… Everything was in its place.
Except for the one thing which was that she couldn’t decide where to go from their place.
Aileen flinched when Cosette roared, “You are still crying for that useless piece of s**t, Janette?”
Aileen could feel the whole room began shaking again. She had to open the top two buttons of her shirt as it was too hot there.
The demoness sneered, “If you don’t stop crying, I will send him to my home and believe in me, Janette, he would never make it alive from hell. Do you want me to do this to him? What is his name again? Aileen? Do you remember it?”
Cosette asked with his red eyes fixed on Janette. Aileen was about to tell his name, at the time, Janette held Aileen’s hand and pleaded with her eyes.
Janette didn’t want Cosette to know her mate’s name, knowing well that his name would be enough for the demoness to burn him alive or send him hell which she doesn’t want her to do to him.
Aileen felt like crying. Seeing her discomfort, Janette wiped her tears and told to Cosette truthfully, “I am not crying for him, Cosette. I am just missing my parents.” She pressed her lips together and looked around her room.
The memories of her parents celebrating her birthday, clapping their hands to see her dancing and Aileen composing music, and their struggles, everything began coming into her vision.
As her eyes fell on Aileen, she immediately told Cosette, “A-and can you please cool down for once? Aileen is getting rashes on her skin.”
Aileen’s skin was turning red for heat. No matter how strong she was, it was painful for her to stay under the sun or stove. Cosette instantly cool down and ran out of the room only to return with ice cubes to rub on Aileen’s body.
After good two minutes, Aileen calmed down and she hissed to Cosette, “Why are you awful in controlling your rage, Cosette? You will kill me someday and if I die, I will haunt you everywhere you go.” Cosette gave her human friend a sheepish smile and handed her a form, which was shocking for both cousins.
Janette asked worriedly, “Are we going there?”
Cosette seethed, “Why? You don’t want to leave you mate, do you?”
Janette cried out, “I don’t want him. Why would I anyway? He doesn’t want me. I am not in pain anymore as I accepted his rejection the same night, he rejected me. I am crying because I am going to miss my parents and my home where I grow up with Aileen.” Cosette’s face softened to hear her.
The demoness was glad to see her friend didn’t turn out to be those werewolves to whom their mate is everything.
Aileen said frowning, “This is in the north, and - ”
“ -expensive,” Janette added.
Aileen looked up, saying, “This is for rich businessmen, celebrities and – “
“ – royal prince and princesses,” Janette added blankly.
Knitting her brow, Cosette asked, “So?”, clearly wasn’t understanding of what was bothering her friends in it.
Both cousins said in unison, “We can’t afford this place and college.”
Rolling her eyes, Cosette scoffed, saying, “This is it! Did you forget who my father is?”
Taking out a black card, she said smirking, “After winning a competition in hell, I was offered lifetime access to live in mortal and I got money which I can use wherever I want. I have nowhere to spend it. So, I decided why not I help my friends and go with them for the world tour.”
Shrugging her shoulders, she said, “I know you two want to study which I want that too. So, - “
Aileen interrupted her, “How can we use your hard-earned money, Cosette? We are friends for not your money, but for you.”
Janette said, “Aileen is right, Cosette. We can’t go to this college as we don’t think we can afford this- “
“Shut up!” The demoness seethed at the sisters who flinched in her sudden outburst.
Not wanting their house collapse in her anger, they stayed quiet and listened to Cosette who said with a glare, “I am doing this for me, not for you two. Didn’t I tell you I want to go on an adventure? Taking you two with me will be great fun. Besides Janette needed to go afar of her stupid mate and you- Aileen.”
Looking at Aileen, she said, “I chose North for you only. So, don’t argue with me and be ready by seven in the morning. Our flight is at eight am.”
The sisters sighed and decided to take a nap for a few hours.
Where Janette was sad to leave her home, Aileen didn't look bothered about it.
To Aileen memories matter, and the rest don't. She was curious to go to the new place.
She was eager to face challenges coming on her way. But before that happens, she was looking for a place where her only family, her cousin, Janette, would be safe. She was all Aileen has and lives for.
A few hours later, they left for the airport after handing the key to that home to the new owner.
Cosette peeked at the sisters and swallowed hard, thinking how they would react to see the place where she was taking them. They trusted her and that's why without wasting a word, they agreed with her to go to the Northland.
