My mum and dad appear at the door with worried expressions. My mum gasps when she sees me and rushes to my side, trying to hug me. “Ahhh! Mum, fractured ribs!” I whine painfully. “Sorry Belle! We were so worried about you.” She exclaims. “Glad you are okay sweetie.” My dad says, kissing me on the side of my head that’s not bandaged. “Your poor face! It’s so hard to see you like this!” Tears form in my mums eyes. What’s wrong with my face? I touch my fingertips to my swollen lips, wincing slightly. Mum hands me a small mirror from her purse. I stare at my reflection, hardly able to recognise myself. My right eye is completely black and swollen. My cheek has a cut on it and my lips are puffy and split in multiple places. Tears threaten to fall from my eyes. “Why would he do this to me?”
