“D... did you s... see that?” I asked Edward strutting.
“Hell yes. How did you manage to do that? You were so calm as if driving normally. It was like a piece of cake for you to get us alive here.” He was still astonished.
“No... I mean did you s... see some... something vanish? Like just n-now... and did you hear s-some voice when I took charge of the car?”
I hoped he say yes. I hoped he say something so that would make me believe I wasn’t seeing things.
“What do you mean by vanish? And what voice? I guess you are talking about the noises....”
I didn’t hear anything else. I was so lost in my thoughts unaware of the commotion happening around me as the ambulance arrived at the spot with sheriffs. Edward kept answering them while keeping an eye on me.
He then helped me get into the ambulance to get the shreds remove.
-‘That voice was the same which I used to hear so frequently as a child. But it stopped abruptly, isn’t it? But why I heard it now? After like 11 or 12 years and what was that thing beside me that vanished?’- My head started to pain.
Someone urged me to move as I looked at my hand; tightly clasped by another in a firm grip. I looked back at the owner of this hand and saw Edward lying unconscious. I quickly turned to him asking sisters for help. They looked at me shockingly and I didn’t have time to check what shocked them.
-‘Maybe your vicious hair that might have given you ‘Bellatrix Lestrange’ kinda looks, scaring them off.’-
Yeah that might be possible as I could feel sweat dripping from my head. I followed my friend as he was pushed inside the hospital on a stretcher. A helper came beside me asking me to go get a treatment and he was clearly annoying the hell out of me as I wasn’t injured. There might be some scratches which I can attend to later on. My focus was solely on Edward. As I was pacing to and fro outside his Emergency Room, I heard people gasp whenever they looked at me. Curiously I turned to look at my reflection in one of the glass doors, laughing a little as to what was scaring them off.
-‘Maybe I can take a picture of me looking like the mad Bellatrix.’- Giggling I took out my cell phone and just as I turned the camera on, my eyes fell on the reflection ahead of me making me swallow my laughter.
Looking like Bellatrix would have been best at this moment as what I saw was worse than that. My head had a deep injury and blood gushed out of it soaking my clothes and hair. The glass shred; still sticking out of it. My eyes traveled from my arm to my clothes and chest and I took a deep breath, the baby pink shirt was now deep red; I must have lost a huge amount of blood.
-‘How that happened? I didn’t feel any pain until now.’-
Yes, I didn’t feel any pain before but now, looking at my appearance it became painful. Realizing the blood loss and the injury my eyes grew wide.
Sleep
That was the last thing I heard before losing my conscience.
Wake up... You have to wake up now...
I stirred a little trying to open my eyes which seemed to weigh tons. The first thing that I felt was noises and smell.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
Beeping sound of a machine along with smell of I.V. fluids, medicine, disinfectant and blood hit my nostrils; making me cringe my nose. There were other smell as well like a male-cologne, floral smell and what is that one...? I couldn’t pin point out that one particular smell.
“Wake up Tay... Please wake up...” A familiar worried voice reached my ears.
I slowly opened my eyes to look at the person hovering over me with a distorted look. Judging by his appearance it was safe to say that he hadn’t slept for days and haven’t eaten well. Looking at my opened eyes he sighed loudly as if he had been holding it up for too long. Calling for the doctors he rushed to get me a glass of water. I realized I was thirsty and gratefully accepted it.
“Thank you Mr. Williams but why you look like you haven’t slept for days?” I asked him as he helped me sit on the bed by placing few cushions at the backside to support me.
“I rushed to find you after that car accident only to catch you in time as you fell unconsciously. The doctors were worried as you lost way too much blood and surprised as to how you managed to survive for that long.” His eyes seemed distant as if thinking something.
“How did you know I met with an accident and where I was taken to?” he seemed to be thinking hard but just shrugged.
“I told you before; I would know what you are up to and what you do.”
Before I could ask more Doctor with nurse entered my ward.
“Hello Miss Tasha, how are you doing now? I am Dr. Phillip Watson, just call me Phil. It’s good to see you awake.” Checking for vitals and giving some instructions to the sister, he put his stethoscope over his shoulder and looking into my eyes he asked again “Are you anaemic?”
“I am good Doc and yea I am anaemic. No matter how well I keep my diet balanced the haemoglobin count doesn’t reach its limit. Is there something to be worried about?” I asked analyzing him and then Damien.
“Well in that case no. I was just wondering because it’s rare to see that even after infusing four blood bags, your haemoglobin remained less. By the way, is there any pain you are feeling right now apart from the headache and stiff muscles?”
To be honest I forgot all about my pain as I suddenly remembered about Edward.
“No doc. everything is fine. I am just feeling a lot parch. Unquenched thirst.” I tried suppressing it again as Damien refilled my glass and passed it to me.
“Of course you would feel that way for the lost nutrients in these five days. Your body went in coma due to shock and without finding any other injury we couldn’t let anyone feed you except the liquids through I.V.” Phil laughed a little.
-‘ For five days? I had been in coma? Did I hear that correct?’-
“Phil, can you tell me again for how long I had been knocked out?” seeing at my shocked face he quickly replied.
“Hey its fine now you are awake. Don’t be too shock we can’t risk you in coma again, can we? This young man has taken lot of efforts to take care of you. Please pay heed to his efforts and don’t fell unconscious this time. The loss of blood and maybe all that happened that night had put you in coma for five days. But now you are alright. In fact you can get discharged from hospital tomorrow.” He beamed at me.
“Thank you Phil and thanks Damien.” I passed them a tired smile.
“Just let me know if you feel something odd. Uh... Damien can I have a word with you?” Damien stood from the bed side and followed him.
My head throbbed and I reached to get a glass of water which was kept near the entrance. I heard their hushed voices.
“... it was like as if the cells are thirsty and taking up all the amount it received.”
“Is there anything serious?” Damien asked.
“No... Since she is anaemic, that might be one of the causes but... Anyways you have to take care of her eating habit.” Phil told him
“Yes Dr. Phil, I have noticed she doesn’t eat much. I will look after that. Thank you.” Damien thanked him and I heard footsteps coming near.
I was engrossed in what Phil told him. ‘As if cells are thirsty and taking up all the amount it received...’
-‘Did I lose so much blood? Yet I was standing straight not realizing I was hurt.’-
You shouldn’t bleed.
I gasped hearing that voice and snapped in its direction only to find Damien standing close to me with an unreadable expression.
-‘Is he...? Is he the one messing with my thoughts?’- I was so confused looking at him as he tried reading my expression.
-‘He comes unannounced. He knows what I am doing, where I am. He doesn’t make a sound when coming. He has swift movement. He has a devilishly handsome face. Can it be that... that he is a vampire?’-
“Noooooo .....” I screamed closing my eyes and ears as I felt strong hands encircling me bringing me closer to his chest.
“Tay... What’s wrong? It’s okay... you are fine... I have got you.” I heard him say.
The chest and his cologne helped me calm my racing heart. I was so confused to what was going on around me.
“Cupcake... Are you alright? I heard you scream.” I looked towards my right to see Edward running to me and pushed Damien away. Pulling me into his embrace he soothed my hair, “Did he hurt you? Does it hurt anywhere else?” he kept hushing me.
“No, he has been nothing but good to me Ed and I am good. I just... maybe I had a nightmare... or I was day dreaming I dunno” I looked at Damien who was closing and opening his fist in anger and running his hand through his hair.
Edward then let me go and made me sit on the bed before turning to Damien.
“Thank you Mr. Williams; for going out of your way to take care of her. Now I will take the turn and a shower would do you good.” He passed a small smile to him and handing him a hand to shake.
Damien just nodded and shook his hand and then turned to leave. Stopping at the door he changed his course and reaching me he kissed my forehead. “If you need anything just let me know. I will be happy to help.”
He left leaving a shocked me behind and a furious Edward looking at his retreating back.
-‘He kissed me? There was this genuine and pained look in his eyes. Is this part of his game?’- I was hell confused as I still looked at the direction he left.
Outside the hospital, Damien sat in his car and smiled to himself. “Dear Edward, you won’t be able to win this time. I won’t let history repeat itself again. I have found the way to get what is mine.” With this, he pushed the gas pedal and left the parking lot.
Flashback
After seven months of heart break, I decided to work with my dad. Although I didn’t put much effort as I drowned myself in alcohol. Zac returned from Florida and hearing of my current status he came looking for me in a bar.
“Damien...”
I turned to look at the person and to my surprise I saw a worried and despair Zac standing with slouched shoulder. I stood up and smiled widely.
“Hey Zac, when did you come? Boy, I missed you badly. Come let’s grab a drink together.”
He sat beside me and looked at me sympathetically.
“She didn’t deserve you. I told you that before so why let yourself drown in alcohol? Look at you man, it’s a heart wrenching site.” He kept staring at me.
“I was lonely. I had no-one except this to accompany me.” I stared at the alcohol.
“I am so sorry about that. But now I am here and I can’t let you suffer anymore. It’s time to rise and shine.”
Tring...Tring... Tring...
“Call from my boss. I will be right back.” He went out of the bar and I slumped on the counter keeping my head low.
Just as I popped my head up to look for Zac, I saw none other than the woman of my dreams.
-‘She looks even more beautiful. She can easily win a Miss Universe title.’-
My eyes softened at her site and then suddenly my heart ached looking at the man she was with. A handsome, tall man with a well built body and straight face. His brown eyes looking at her with pride; taking her hand in his, they made their way towards me.
I gripped the glass too tightly as it smashed under the pressure. The bartender rushed to me and I apologized to her shaking my hand away. She passed me few tissues and I dabbed it on my palm. I felt someone’s presence beside me and I didn’t have to turn to find out who that person was. The same perfume told me it was Rachel.
“Are you alright? (Gasps loudly) Damien you...?”
Ignoring her, I stood up to leave but stumbled a little. She held me and made me sit.
“Damien...” another male voice called out. “What’s wrong with you? Why do you look like....” he trailed off.
“Honey can you please bring a first-aid kit, I will take care of him.” Rachel told him. He nodded and left.
“Look at you. You even look like a loser now. Let me guess. Ummm... maybe your father refused to accept you back and left you? Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. I came here to celebrate it with Lachlan, you see he is now the CEO and he gifted me this diamond ring. Isn’t it beautiful?” she said showing off her ring finger and smiling at me with disgust.
“Suits you.” I started getting up when she said. “He was always better than you Damien, you shouldn’t be envious of him.”
“He stole my girlfriend even knowing that we were about to marry each other.” I seethed at her.
“Damien....” Zac came and looked at Rachel with pure hatred.
“Let’s go away from the cunning fox.” He held my shoulders and bumped into the other man.
“I never expected you to do this to him Edward.” Zac spat on his face and we left the bar.
Flashback Ended
Yes, it was Edward, my high school close friend who stole my girl from me. But this time, I wouldn’t let him steal Tasha away. Even, if I have to play the Love game to get her.
-‘I won’t let you get away with that Edward.’-
