Jackson's Point of View
I knocked on my father's office door and waited to be asked in. There was always a delay on this and it drove me around the bend. My Dad's theory was that if you kept someone waiting it would unsettle them, which was fair enough, but he could smell me through the door! He knew it was me and yet he still kept me waiting.
"Enter", he barked. I rolled my eyes before opening the door and letting myself in.
My Father was sitting behind his solid antique desk. He barely looked up as I came to stand in front of him, staring at a huge ledger making notes in the margin. My mother was looking out of the window on the far wall with her back to the room. I wanted to go to her, but I knew it would be useless, he would stop me. So I stood with my feet routed to the ground, wondering how bad her face looked this time.
"What is it, Jackie boy?" My father asked impatiently, finally looking up at me. Well, if I was expecting a happy birthday, I certainly wasn't going to get one. I felt a little wounded by his total lack of interest in my life, before reprimanding myself internally he'd never cared, so he wasn't about to start now.
"I came to let you know I have found my mate." I smiled until my face hurt. This would make me a stronger Alpha and I'd be able to take over the pack next year.
"Who?" My father asked, he sounded bored already.
"Lisa, Gamma Draven's daughter. I came to let you know that there's no need for the party tomorrow."
"I beg your pardon." My father said, standing up from his chair. "Your fated mate is a Gamma and you think that is acceptable?"
"I'm not interested in her rank, Dad. As soon as I caught her scent it didn't matter any more"
"Oh my Goddess! Martha, are you hearing this? Hearing what our boy is saying? You can not accept a weak mate, Jackson, I refuse to hand the pack over to someone that thinks a Gamma's daughter is worthy of the Luna title."
I growled loudly. "Don't speak about her like that."
I had balled my hands into fists to try and stop myself from attacking my father. Seth was trying to push through and my claws were starting to puncture my own skin. I could see blood dripping down from my clenched hands, but I didn't feel any pain, just white hot fury.
My Father let out an incredulous laugh. "For Goddess sake Jackie, will you listen to yourself. Fine, if you want your mate, then keep her around. Screw her brains out whenever you want to, but don't make her your Luna. Surely I raised you to be smarter than that!"
I was completely dumbstruck by his answer. "What do you suggest I do, Dad?"
"Do what I did, make the strongest wolf your Luna and your mate your w***e! It's that easy."
I could not believe he had just said that. I looked over at my Mom and saw her shoulders sag. All this time she'd been by his side, running the pack and being the finest damn Luna this pack had ever had, and all the while he was banging some un-ranked she wolf. f**k that! There was no way that would happen. How dare he do that to Mom, or that other poor she-wolf.
"Dad, are you seriously telling me that you married Mom but f****d someone else instead?"
"Watch your f*****g tone Jackie" My Father's eyes started to darken as his Wolf stirred under the surface. "You dare question my choices? You're a child! If you want this pack, you'll need to start behaving like an adult. Tomorrow evening will go ahead as planned. The highest ranked she-wolves from our neighbouring packs will be there. Daughters of Alpha's and Luna's, daughters of Beta's. Pick one of those and we'll hear no more about Lisa."
"I thought Gamma Draven was your friend?" I spat my question through gritted teeth.
"You think friendship counts when you run a pack? You're more naive than I thought!"
"That's enough Cain,'' my mother said in a sad voice. "It is his birthday after all." She slowly turned away from the window to look at my Dad with pleading eyes. It gave me a chance to look at the right side of her face. Three cuts long and deep ran from her eyebrow down to her neck. My father had slashed her beautiful face with his talons. I bit down on my tongue to stop myself from screaming, my mouth filled with blood whilst my eyes filled with tears. My Mom looked at me and shook her head, she didn't want me antagonising my father. It wouldn't be good for me and it would be even worse for her. By tonight she would probably be healed enough to show her face around the pack. It would also mean that my father was able to dish out more punishments. I wouldn't let that be because of me.
"Mom, don't worry, Dad's right." I said with a forced smile in my voice. "I'll pick someone tomorrow night. I had better get off to school."
"That's my boy." My Father gave me a sickeningly sweet smile. I'd often wondered if he was of sound mind, now I knew without a doubt that he was totally deranged.
I headed back down the corridor not paying any mind to where I was going and crashed straight into Lisa.
"Well, hello there, birthday boy." She said in a flirtatious voice, giving me a wink.
I sniffed the air around her, waiting to be as affected as I was earlier. Nothing happened. What the hell was going on here?
"Smell something you like?" She said, batting her eyelids at me.
My top lip curled back over my teeth before I could control my reactions. Lisa huffed and barged past me.
'Where is our mate?' Seth whined. I could hear the longing in his thoughts.
'I don't know buddy, but we will find her and nothing my Father says can stop us'
