I tried to absorb the words that had just been said out loud, but my brain refused to process them because they were utterly ludicrous.
He can't have spoken her name - surely? My ears would not accept that they had heard correctly. Lisa had been a constant source of misery in my life for as long as I could remember, and when Jackson had discovered the way she had treated me he seemed genuinely upset. I confided every last detail and he had been both furious and broken-hearted on my behalf. I felt sure that he understood how serious things were.
