My mother ran towards a table to get a vase and land it on my head when Hardulph came forward and stopped her, taking the Vase away from her.
“Stop this. She’s just a child. What has come over you?”
“Let me teach her a lesson.” She shouted at me.
I saw an opportunity and used it to my advantage and kicked her damn ass when Hardulph quickly caught me.
He dragged me away from her and pulled me to my room and shut the door.
How dare he stop me?
I screamed. Fury with rage, I scratched his arm with my claws.
I recovered myself when I saw blood on his arm.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized and walked up to him.
He suddenly came close to me and kissed me on my forehead and smiled at me.
“It’s nothing at all, don’t worry about it,” he muttered and suddenly his wound healed instantly as he heaved a sigh, turning away from me.
“How long are you going to pretend like nothing is happening?” I questioned when he stopped.
“What are you talking about?” He asked as he faced me.
“I can’t pretend like nothing is going on here.” I glanced up at him. “You know the truth. I’m your mate, right?”
“Don’t say the word.” He stared at the wall with a sigh. “I am married to your mother. It makes no sense for me to get involved with you.”
“My mother is not your mate,” I flared up. “I am your mate. Why are you doing this to me?”
“You listen to me for once and stop trying to get involved in where you are not supposed to?” he warned and came closer to me. “It doesn’t matter if you are my mate. I am married to your mother. I’m way older than you. Find someone young to be with and don’t bug me.”
“Why do you love my mother so much and don’t want to leave her? What does she have that I don’t have that you are so obsessed with?”
“I was in a dark place when I made an encounter with your mother,” he blurted out. “I can’t just abandon her because of you. I promised to be by her side and take good care of her, not the other way round.”
“So, you care more about my mother than me.” my eyes wells up in rage.
“I never said so.”
“Just get out of my sight. All of you are the same, no difference.”
He sighed and excused me.
Fuck him.
Tears streamed down my face. What the hell was I doing?
Am I not letting history repeat itself?
I’m not destined to get together with my mates. Why am I forcing it to be perfect when it’s obvious he doesn’t want me?
While my mom hates me because I insulted her and didn’t attend her wedding.
My gosh, she is toxic as hell.
How long am I going to live with someone like this? This is too much for me to take.
As soon as I left my previous pack, I cut all ties with everyone because I wanted to start life anew.
My life isn’t important to anyone, so why not just mind my business?
Seeing my mother’s husband was bringing back a lot of memories.
The next day, I came out of my room because I needed some fresh air and to see Tunstall too, since he’s been wanting to see me.
Tunstall is an Alpha. We met at the same company and became close friends. Because of how mischievous he was, we got closer. He is my confidant and we can tell each other everything.
I got to his house. He opened the door as soon as I got in.
“Woah! This place is amazing.” I admired his new house and looked at each corner of his house.
It was a magnificent, self-contained apartment with new furniture.
“This is what you’ve been working on for weeks?”
“Of course, baby girl.” He winked at me. “That’s why I’ve been inviting you to come visit me by sending you my new home address.”
“Wow, Tunstall, this place is magical. I love it here.”
“Yeah, I’m glad you feel the same way I do. Now, come eat. I will cook something delicious for you.”
“Aire, sir.” I ran to the dining table, my mouth gaped open at the multiple dishes.
“Take whatever you want. Feel at home, Ravenna.”
I sat down and dug into the dishes. It’s been so long since I had good food.
Tunstall and I discussed for a while and then I told him everything about my mother’s husband.
“What? Your stepfather is your mate?”
“Yes,” I agreed with him. “Isn’t that sad?”
“Wait! What?” He laughed in disbelief. “You are kidding, right?” He tied his black hair into a ponytail.
“I’m not kidding, Tunstall. I’m f*****g serious.” I explained.
“Wow! That’s really—” he stressed. “I mean really challenging.” He shook his head. “And he wants to still stay with your mother after finding out the both of you are mates?”
“Yes.” I dropped my spoon on the plate I was eating on. “He doesn’t care.” I tiredly groaned out, heaving a deep sigh.
“Hmm.” Tunstall thought for a second before turning to me. “What do you want to do?”
“Ugh.” I whined and pushed the food forward and rested my head on the table. “I don’t know anymore. I’m too tired to think. I just want someone to love me. It’s that so hard?” I raised my head from the table and looked at him. “If you had any clue how sexy he is, Tunstall.”
“Seriously, I feel for you honestly, Ravenna. Seems like he loves your mother very much.”
“To be honest, I don’t give a shit.” I muttered under my breath and took a rethink of how my life has been since my childhood. I’ve lived a rough childhood since I was born and it has been hectic ever since.
I don’t truly know. I’m getting exhausted by everything that’s happening to me. My father cheated on my mother with my mate’s mother because he wanted some peanuts. We were so poor back then. My mother got mad and divorced him. She got remarried to a wealthy alpha.
Stil, he cheated on her and got a mistress pregnant.
My life has been nothing but a boomerang. My sister and I never got to live the sort of childhood I wanted. That’s why I hate my mother.
That’s why our relationship is toxic as hell, because I hate her for what she has put me through.
She’s married again, and her husband is my mate.
My stepfather is my mate. I’m so tired of everything. Am I born to live lonely till I die? How can the moon goddess fate me with lots of alphas and none of them wants to be with me?
