Chapter 17

--- "The Hydra", a magical beast with power and intelligence incomparable to other magical beasts. It's one of the legendary dragons that lived even in the times of the saint war. A species so rare that even hearing about it is a rarity, but only on four of the "Five Big Kingdoms". In the kingdom of Swanford, the name of the "Hydra" threatened the citizens for millennials because of one thing. The Penedurn Pinnacle, the biggest mountain in the world being part of the kingdom of Swanford is also the host of the Hydra and its only necessity for life. The "Penedurn Pinnacle" is the place with the most resources in the whole Kingdom of Swanford, containing the "dakuston", a rare material used for forging weapons and armours.

"But if this mountain has so many resources, why is Swanford so weak and poor?" asks Taiyo

"This is why the quest exists... The Hydra doesn't let anyone get close to the mountain and never had, even in the times of the war. A creature so strong that not even the Angels and Devils dared to challenge it."

"Thinking about the story, it's alright to believe that the Hydra eats the dakuston?" asks Anastasia thinking about the reasoning of why did the Hydra choose this mountain.

"Yeah... The black rock that resides in the mountain in big quantity is the only food that the Hydra eats, that being the reason that it didn't leave by now."

"And we'll challenge this legendary beast with only four people?" I ask with a puzzled expression.

"Dragons have a really long lifespan... but not infinite. People stopped challenging the Hydra decades ago because of its legend. That's why nobody even thought about the fact that the Hydra is by now, weakened by its age..."

"Do you have a plan?" I ask.

"Of course, we will kill him with one strike!"

After seeing our questioned faces, Kein starts to explain the plan to us while slowly walking towards the lair of the dragon. The castle was close to the mountain, so we arrived at the main cave in only one hour with a carriage.

Walking through the cave, we could only see a flickering light at the end of the tunnel, Kein going forward, followed by Taiyo and then me and Anastasia that was holding on to my sleeve.

"There we are..."

In the middle of a spacious cave inside the mountain, is the Hydra surrounded by blue flames that enlightened the room. The dark crystals on the walls were shining beautifully because of Hydra's flames.

Kein jumps forward and shouts,

"Follow the plan! Now go!"

At Kein's signal, everyone got in their position, with Kein and Taiyo rushing towards the Hydra at high speed. Kein with his two blades out started the fight by cutting the tendons of the beast's four feet while Taiyo targeted its eyes with his poisoned daggers. While they started fighting in close range, I started the chant for Uriel,

"Come... The light that destroys the depths of hell. Uriel!"

"Gather!"

The Hydra is really intelligent, reading through Kein and Taiyo's movements and defending itself to some extent that not even Kein can cut it easily. The Hydra was constantly defending and attacking with its blue flames and its eight tails.

While running around it, one of its tails got a clear hit on Taiyo, sending him right into a wall.

"Taiyo!" I shout after seeing him being sent away with such great force.

"Come... The light that heals the soul of the living. Gabriel!"

"Heal!"

This was Anastasia's chant for her chosen power, "Gabriel". It was the same kind of chosen power as my "Uriel" being one of the archangels, the only differences were its properties and the fact that, unlike her, I could communicate with Uriel.

With the chant of "Gabriel", Anastasia healed Taiyo from afar, fully recovering him.

"After meeting Akushi, her powers increased really much. "The healing angel Gabriel"... Coming in contact with Uriel awakened a greater power inside her." thinks Kein while continuously hitting the Hydra.

Seeing the healing spell, the beast started throwing some of its blue flames towards me and Anastasia, but they were blocked automatically by Kein's "Wind Wall" ability.

We continued fighting in this pattern according to Kein's plan, with Anastasia healing, Kein defending and Taiyo taking a suspicious amount of hits until I gathered an enormous amount of holy power.

[Out of all the legendary dragons, the Hydra is the weakest to light... so Akushi will be our winning ticket. When the battle starts, gather as much power as you can and use your new ability...]

Recalling what Kein told us before the battle, I raise my sword and shout,

"Gather... Complete!"

"Holy flames, come forth! Uriel Sword!"

Flames engulfed my long sword, making it twice as big and heavy as it was before. Rushing at the Hydra, I release the power of Uriel and perfectly cut the beast in half... thus putting an end to this fight.

"So this is your new ability! It's incredible!" shouts Anastasia while holding me. I feel like I am about to fall from exhaustion. I don't think I'll be using "Uriel Sword" too often.

"I got one of Hydra's heads... We can head back to the castle. You did incredible guys!" says Kein taking me on his back.

Looking at the corpse of the defeated, Taiyo felt a feeling that he never experienced before. He had the feeling that this won't be the last time he would hear about the Hydra of the blue flames...

With Taiyo carrying the head and Kein carrying me on his back while I tried not to faint, we head back to the castle, to show the kingdom of Swanford the results of our successful mission."
