Dawn has known her whole life that she was born with a prophecy but was never told what it was. Her story starts from the day of birth as a dragon shifter/ elf hybrid princess to the day she fulfills her prophecy.

Through the different stages of her life she's crossed paths again and again with a boy of an unknown new species. Does her destiny have anything to with him? Could he be her mate?

This story captures Dawn in her childhood, teen years and as a young adult. Follow her story as she experiences friendship, family, adventure, doubt and love.

"My first couple of memories are the most precious of mine, almost as precious as the day I met my mate. I remember a few things before the age of six, dragons were known to have good memories so a few of them even go all the way back to the ages of two and three.

To completely understand my story these first couple of memories are something you need to know, at one point I was shy, small, always scared, easily startled. Maybe I grew out of that and maybe I didn’t but I still love that little girl. "

"I couldn't help want to meet him again, who was he? I'm not supposed to leave the castle gates, especially not at night. If I shift and fly maybe no one would know because of all this fog. I shifted into my dragon form and flew over the gates, I heard the guards yelling but I didn't care.

All I wanted in this moment was to know him"

Book 3 in "The Mate of a" Series but can be read without reading book 1 or 2 because it's a separate story that doesn't rely on the others.

Chapter One: My Literal Birth
POV Dawn Everyone is destined for something and that doesn’t exclude me. I just feel singled out that what I might be destined for is a known prophecy! A prophecy I don’t even know but everyone else in the castle does.  Oh yeah I’m a princess by the way, I know what you’re thinking, a lot of these tales are about princesses or lunas or queens. But that’s my point, my tale isn’t any more special than the next. There were so many moments in my life that made me me, just bare with me, experience my life through my eyes. Well maybe not through my eyes for this first part because we’re starting from the day I was born and I can’t remember much of that. Ah s**t here it goes. P.O.V Carissa The smell of cherries were everywhere, we were in the most magical forest in this region. We’ve been picturing this day for months, two years ago since we marked each other. I can’t say I imagined I’d be giving birth in the woods, not even familiar woods, We are beyond where our kingdom is. Scorch talked me into going on a sore through the sky today to get my head away from work since I’m supposed to be relaxing this close to our baby’s birth. He or she wasn’t supposed to be due for another month.  A premature hybrid scared me, hybrid’s already seem so delicate to me. I have Jenny -my half sibling’s mom- for anything I don’t understand about hybrids since my siblings were the first.  Scorch landed when he felt my water break on his back. He shifted into his human form after I climbed down. “Carr.” He frowned,a simple expression but I knew he was freaking out. “I can fly you back to the castle.” He suggested but it was a terrible idea. I shook my head. “I can’t safely fly on your back like this… it’s okay I think you can deliver the baby.” I took deep breaths. Scorch said nothing, he got whatever I needed so that I was comfortable and could give birth. He held my hand and laid with me until the contractions got close enough to try to deliver the baby. He pulled off my panties and lifted up my dress.  I dug my hands in the ground out of pain and accidentally grew two baby trees from the ground with my elfish magic. I don’t think my magic did it, I think the baby’s magic grew it. I’ve never heard of anything like that happening, trees aren’t even easy for kids to grow and she was about to be a newborn. Or just maybe we did it together. After half an hour Scorch had successfully delivered our first kid, she was both of us and neither of us all at the same time. It was the happiest moment of my life, we started our own family together. The pixies came out and kissed my babies fast all over, blessing her and left fairy dust in the air around us. Scorch looked down at us with so much love. Scorch shifted into his dragon form, flew us home and I rested in a hospital bed for the rest of that morning. I kept waking up around noon to make sure Dawn was still with me, we decided to name her Dawn because that’s the time of day she was born and it sounded as beautiful as she looked. Princess Dawn, she’s going to be the first hybrid to inherit the throne if that’s what she wants for herself.  “Queen Carissa the oracles are here we a gift for your kid’s birth.” A guard informed me. He gestured to twins, oracles were almost always twins.  I smiled at the two men and I already knew what I was going to say. “Thank you for visiting, I can’t accept your gift if it’s a prophecy.” Prophecies ruin people, we shouldn’t know any possible futures, we’ll just obsess over making happen or not happen. I wanted my child to know anything could happen, not one thing that is the most likely to happen… Prophet’s were the easiest thing for an oracle to gift you so they did it a lot. Also to get you hooked on knowing the future, of course not all Oracles were the same. “We respect your request.” They said in unison, I watched them leave. I didn’t regret my decision, I already knew Dawn was going to achieve amazing things, I didn't need to know anymore than that. I cuddled up with my newborn baby and fell asleep breastfeeding her.  When I woke up again Dawn was gone, I panicked, I sat up as fast as I could. “Dawn!” “Hey, hey. She’s right here babe.” Scorch said, she was laying in his lap and he was sitting down on a chair across the room. “I wanted to hold her for a bit. I was thinking about that prophecy. It’s a hell of a lot to put on a child.” The last part he said scared me. He walked over to me and put Dawn down right beside me. I squinted my eyes in confusion. “Wait… you know what the prophecy is? But I told the oracles we don’t want to know.” Scorch looked at me blankly. “Oh they already told me before you even woke up and knew about it. They probably didn’t want to tell you themselves.” He shrugged. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone, not even Dawn if you want but those Oracles give away information for money so don’t be surprised if it spreads throughout the kingdom.” I exhaled. “I guess that’s fine, I just don’t want to know.” I looked down at Dawn and played with her hair. “I promise you, if you don’t know about the prophecy then neither will I.” I kissed her forehead. I had a heart full of love for her already, she was my light now.  Scorch sat on the bed, “I promise both of you, I’ll be there for you no matter what or how hard.” He kissed us both on the forehead. “Actually I have something to show you, the doctors don’t know but there was something in the closet when you got placed in this room.”   “What?” I asked in a yawn, I exhausted from child birth. Scorch got off the bed and walked around to the closet and opened it to see a mother with her kittens around her. “She gave birth before we got here, maybe at the same time as you. I didn’t say anything because they’d just kick them out and I knew you’d want them to stay.” I smiled. “That’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen Scorch.” I giggled. “Maybe we can give them a home?” Scorch nodded. “If that’s what you want.” He grabbed a kitten and brought the cute little thing over to us. When the kitten got laid next to Dawn, he or she cuddled against her. Scorch got into the bed and we all fell asleep.  One last time I woke up right after the sunset, I  heard distant meowing, it sounded like pain. I got up as fast as I could, the mother and kittens weren’t in the closet anymore but one in bed with us was still there. I ran to the door and opened it wider but stopped with Dawn crying, she was crying for me, the first time and I wanted to be there for her. That’s all I wanted so I stopped and slowly closed the door opening a guard would get the cat and kitten whatever they needed. The meowing stopped when the door was closed and I felt relieved, they were fine. I got back into the bed with my family and the newborn kitten. I fell asleep and I slept wonderfully that night. This is exactly how I wanted things to stay but it couldn't because Dawn would grow up and things will change. Dawn P.O.V That first day of life meant so much more than I realized for a while. I think that really is the start of my story. Not because of being born on that day but because everything that happened on that day and the relationships established. With my parents, a cat family, even though I don’t have a single memory of that day. I love when my Mom tells me that story. When my entire story is told, I hope my ending is satisfying, my mate handsome, and my family whole. There’s a lot to cover and just enough time.
