One week later ...
I get up and leave for work early like usual. I am engrossed in my work when I suddenly look at my calendar and realize that its Sarah's birthday today. Oh s**t!
It’s five in the evening already. I immediately leave work to go over to her workplace grabbing some flowers and a cake on the way.
I run upstairs, fifteen minutes later, flowers in my hand and look around for Sarah. I cannot find her but I sure as hell see Rhea. Just my luck. What can I say?
She sees me and comes running towards me.
"Looking for Sarah?" She asks, with an over-friendly smile.
"Yeah, do you know where she is?" For once I decide to talk to her.
"Umm .. Yes. Matt wanted to give her a surprise so he took her out somewhere. They have been gone for a couple of hours now and I don’t think she will be back here today. "
"Okay, thanks!" I tell her and leave. I go back to work but I am unable to concentrate. An hour later I leave for home.
I prepare dinner for us, a special birthday dinner and look at the diamond ring that I bought while returning from work for my woman.
She calls me at ten.
"Leaving for home anytime soon?"
"Baby I am home, waiting for you," I say trying to not sound dejected. How can I forget her birthday?
"Okay, I will be there in ten." She says and hangs up.
I wait for her, looking outside the window every thirty seconds. Ten minutes later I see her getting out of someone’s car.
Two minutes later, she rings the doorbell and I rush to greet her. I hold her and twirl her around and kiss her hard.
"Happy birthday, girl"
She is beaming.
We have a very nice candlelight dinner and I give her the ring. I kneel down and put the ring on her and she is ecstatic. I have been giving her diamond rings for the past two or maybe three years for her birthday. I should have thought of something else this time maybe, I berate myself while slipping the ring on her finger but she seems to be happy enough.
