ELLIE MORRIS
I listened as Amber talked, though I didn't really understand what she wanted from me. I had seen for myself that there was something growing between Adam and Paige. He had been in here multiple times a day just to see her. At first, it had concerned me, but the more time that I spent with Paige, the more that I understood it. That I understood why my son was falling so head over heels in love with this woman. I felt bad for Amber. It wasn't her fault that her husband had developed feelings for another woman, but then again, it wasn't really anyone's fault. These things happen sometimes. Admittedly, not usually to werewolf mates. It was true that some mates cheated, but they were the exception, not the rule. It wasn't as though Adam was just looking for a bit of fun on the side, either. It was clear to see that he loved Paige. Amber would just have to accept that.
I was still deciding the best way to convey all of this to her when I noticed that she was staring at something behind me. I turned to see that Adam had arrived to see Paige again. They were smiling lovingly at each other, and I knew that Amber had obviously realised the truth for herself. "You see, it's love. They didn't choose to fall for each other, and I am sure that neither of them meant for you to get hurt. No one can control who they love. Don't hate them for finding each other, be happy for them," I told Amber. "Now, do you want something to eat?" I asked. She shook her head, pushing herself to her feet. "I think that I should just leave," she said quietly. I nodded, "Perhaps that would be for the best," I told her.
PAIGE ROSS
I felt my heartbeat speed up when he walked through the kitchen door. He is so handsome, and the green shirt that he was wearing today matched his eyes perfectly. I walked over to him and said hello. "Hey there, beautiful," he replied. We chatted about whatever came into our heads. It was just small talk, but it felt so good. The way that his eyes wandered my body made me wet. I had deliberatley worn my royal blue silk blouse today and left a few buttons open. I knew that my chest looked good in this blouse. Clearly, he agreed. I wanted him so badly, but he was still married to the Luna. Making a move could be a deadly mistake. I was starting to think that it might be worth it, though.
I turned to glance over in Ellie's direction to make sure that she didn't need me for anything right now. She had been so good to me, and I didn't want to let her down. My breath caught in my throat as I saw who she had been speaking to. Amber was here. She had obviously seen me flirting with the Alpha. I was worried that this wasn't going to go well for me. I was relieved to see that she was leaving, though. I pointed her prescence out to Adam, letting him know that I was concerned that she might have read something into us chatting. He laughed a little. "There's nothing to fear. Amber is aware of the way that I feel for you. You have nothing to worry about, I would never let her or anyone else hurt you. they would have to kill me first," he said, reaching for my hand. I inhaled deeply. So i was right. He did feel the same way that I did. It wasn't all in my head. I was so happy right now. It felt as though nothing in the world could burst my bubble.
AMBER
I sat down on the wooden bench outside of the restaurant. I just needed to catch my breath for a moment. It felt as though the world was spinning, and the air had been knocked right out of me. People began to approach, ready to go and have their lunch. I noticed that the normally friendly pack members that I greeted seemed uninterested. Most just grunted in reply. A few didn't respond at all. I watched through the window as those same pack members entered the restaurant and greeted Paige with joy. Some even hugged her. It dawned on me that it wasn't just my husband. The whole pack seemed to be choosing her over me. This was more than Adam falling in love with someone else. This wasn't normal. Something had to be causing it.
I had definitely had enough of getting the cold shoulder today, so I decided to go to the library and do some research on the after effects of the Mortiferum Amentia myself. I hoped that there would be at least one book on the subject of infatuation spells. I pushed open the door and entered with the twins asleep in their stroller. I steeled myself for another chilly conversation with the librarian. To my surprise, she seemed just the same as usual. Whatever was happening to the members of my pack clearly hadn't yet affected her. "Hello Luna, what can I help you with today?" she asked cheerily. A feeling of relief flooded my body. I told her exactly what I was after, and she disappeared into the back. It wasn't long before she returned with a book. "I hope this has what you are looking for," she said. I thanked her and began to read.
The book didn't have anything about the Mortiferum Amentia directly, but there was a lot about infatuation spells. I read about another spell that sounded similar to everything that was going on here. The spell would affect everyone who came into contact with it, not just two. There wasn't a lot of information, but at least this was something. I felt better knowing that Adam may not actually be choosing her of his own free will. I thanked the librarian and hurried home, calling Adam on the way, asking him to meet me there. We needed to talk. Perhaps if I showed him this book, he would understand and not make any rash decisions.
He arrived fairly quickly, but to my surprise, he had Paige with him. They entered the home that we shared hand in hand. I felt sick to my stomach looking at them. Star wanted to burst out and rip Paige's head off, but I held her back. "It's not their fault or their choice," I reminded her. Adam approached me, still holding onto Paige's hand. "I am glad that you want to talk, as there is something that I want to say," he said. I wanted to stop him, to explain before he said something that he couldn't take back, but he held up a hand to stop me. "Just let me f*****g speak! I have decided that Paige is going to be the she-wolf that carries my heir. What's more, she will be moving in here with us, and will essentialy be my chosen mate alongside you, the one that was chosen for me. She will be given a title befitting the mother of the next Alpha and moved up the ranks of the pack," he said bluntly. I began to try and argue, to show him the book, but he threw it across the room, his eyes flashing with anger. "Shut up and listen! I am the Alpha of the Lakeside pack, not you. You gave that title up. I make the decisions, and you will obey my command. I have the support of the entire pack, including your grandparents. So now I give you a choice. You may either remain as the Luna and be a part of this family, or you can leave."
