Chapter 8: Your Worst Nightmare

860 Words
-Dean- “You will be guarded. You won’t be able to move anywhere without someone following you. This room,” Cara said, gesturing to the space I had been brought to, “will be guarded as well. If you try anything, you will be killed personally by me, and I will enjoy killing you… slowly.” Shit, I thought. Even as she threatened to kill me, I found myself drawn to her. I didn’t care if there were other people in the room. All I wanted was to cross the space, rip the clothes from her body, and mate with her until we were both completely spent. I had never felt such a loss of control, and I knew only she could bring me back together. I wanted her so badly that I for a moment forgot she had even spoken to me. My eyes roamed up and down her body, imagining what it would be like to touch her. I had never been with a female before. People were scared of me, and my interest had always been on Skylar. “I’ll behave,” I said, seeing her narrow her eyes at me. Even after she agreed to work with me, she didn’t trust me. I couldn’t blame her, but it would be entertaining to watch her slowly give in. I wanted to find Skylar’s killer and exact revenge on my father, but I also wanted Cara to be mine. There was no way I would let her slip through my fingers like I had with Skylar. She was going to be all mine. -Cara- His eyes were fixed on me, as if I were a meal. Even when I threatened to kill him, his interest didn’t seem to diminish. I had never liked the hungry look from a male. It had always made me feel sick. But with Dean watching me, I felt… hot. Needy even. I wanted to approach him and… I wasn’t sure what. I had never been with anyone willingly. But when I had been pressed against Dean’s strong, warm body, I felt good for the first time. I wanted more. So much more… “Luna?” I glanced over my shoulder at Scarlett, who was waiting for me to leave with them. I took one last look at Dean before turning away and leaving him behind. The two females who had brought him were stationed by the door, standing guard. “If he does anything—anything suspicious—you tell me immediately, understood?” Both females nodded in agreement. I then walked down the hallway with Scarlett and Zoe following closely. We headed to the former alpha’s office. With a deep sigh, I sank into the large brown desk chair. Papers were scattered across the desk, but they were of no interest to me. Zoe and Scarlett took their seats across from me, their expressions revealing their discontent. I waited for one of them to voice their concerns. “Luna,” Zoe began, breaking the silence. “I know what you’re both thinking,” I said. “Then why did you agree to let him stay?” Scarlett demanded, her frustration evident as she ran a hand through her short blond hair. “Is he really your mate?” Zoe asked calmly, though her chestnut-brown eyes betrayed her underlying worry and pain. She wasn’t happy about Dean being here, and I couldn’t blame her. We had all suffered under the rule of males. We had been beaten, humiliated, raped—our hatred ran deep and was what bound us together. Zoe’s former mate had been a cruel monster who delighted in torturing her, much like my father had with me, and Scarlett had had been a rogue. Life for a lone female was harsh. My father might have only beaten me, but being my father didn’t mean he would protect me from the other males in the pack. “He is.” “Luna…” Zoe groaned, shaking her head. Her hand tightened around the armrest, and I understood her worry—she hadn’t had much luck with her own mate, so why should I expect anything different? But Dean… he was something else. I couldn’t even put it into words. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I couldn’t afford to be deceived. The females were counting on me, and even though Dean stirred feelings in me I’d never experienced before, I refused to submit to him. “If we take down alpha Revenge, it’s like saying checkmate to all other alphas out there!” I argued. “But there’s no guarantee he’ll help!” Scarlett pointed out, her green eyes locking with mine. “He has a deep hatred for his father. I could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice.” “You could look into his eyes?” Zoe asked, glancing briefly at a confused Scarlett before turning back to me. “What do you mean?” “Of course, why?” “You didn’t see… um… see…” “See what?” “Your worst nightmare?” Scarlett finished for Zoe.
