Day full of Mysteries : 3

1022 Words
Day full of mysteries A collapsed body washed off the shore of Gyeonggi town. The pale boy's body lied inert, effortlessly being rocked by the waves, before being tossed straight towards a hardened wall—waking him up from his fainted state. Blood-red eyes shot open before the boy chokes water out his lungs for his life. His eyes glanced left and right, before bringing up his hands to his chest. A sigh of relief left his mouth, internally rejoicing for his life. "I'm alive." He huffed out, not believing how on earth did he manage to live after that traumatic event, but no matter how hard he tries to remember. He can't seem to recall. Guess the gods granted him another chance in life. Arlo landed both his palms towards the sand to pull him up with a grunt. With a scrunched face decorating his face and a couple of white sands on the side of his cheek and some that managed to seep inside his pants, he narrowed his eyes towards the ocean. "Did the waves wash me all the way here." He thought, amazed by the idea considering the distance he paddled in his boat was quite far from the shore. Arlo brought his knees to his chest before locking them in his arms. He almost experienced death, but somehow he lived. Arlo didn't have the best memory, but all he was left to remember was a harsh force of wind striking him underneath the water before he lost consciousness. Tilting his head at that thought, "Did I just escape from a whirlpool?" He let out an unbelievable scoff. His head lowered, eyes planted on the white grainy floor with his smile slowly replaced by a frown. Nobody would believe me if I told them. It's nearly impossible to gain life after losing consciousness underwater. Thinking about any possible ways that lead him to run away from death, which was barely impossible led him into a throbbing headache. "Did water get inside my brain." He mumbled, hitting his head sideways to drive out the nonexistent liquids in his brain which led to a more painful headache. Groaning loudly, Arlo threw his body backwards and landed his back on the sand. "What exactly happened." Frustrated than ever before, he just can't seem to connect the dots and demands to rethink of the event, but always failed since it would all lead to one conclusion. Arlo vented out a groan of internal pain from thinking too much leading to him pressing his palms against the sides of his head. Nothing has been more frustrating to him than failing to remember something. While the disheartened boy groans, infuriated. His savior watches from a great depth in amusement at the boy's behavior. Frightfully evident that he was inventing answers to his question. She knows that Jungkook was a curious boy. She knows cause she's been watching him all the time since the day he's arrived at her island. He was still a kid, too young that time, but after the long wait, he's old enough to keep a secret. Letting out giggly bubbles, she swims away from the surface once the boy gathered enough strength to stand on his feet. Arlo dusted the grains off his nearly dried cargo pants. His face still scrunched up in exhaustion. "How long was I out?" "Great, that curmudgeonly women is gonna execute me." Arlo praised himself for prioritizing such nonsense rather than engaging with the real problem. Before facing his death, he reminds himself to secure his love away from the water, since she's in her delicate state and anything tough could break her to pieces, but as he approaches the boat, his eyes grew agape at the preternatural sight before him. Not only did he lose his dear fishing rod, the bucket of baitworms were left untouched. Scallops, tuna, swordfishes, squids were jumping for their lives underneath the net of Arlo's boat. Someone must be playing a cruel joke on this boy with a goal to crush his hopes. But it wasn't a joke, since nobody was present at that time. Considering that it was the hour that Fishermans and traders from the port evacuate their stuffs and return to their homes. The boy felt like crying—scared and merry at the same time. Too much blessings were occurring today he felt like that that was death's way of an apology before taking his life, that scared him. The sun was nearly dawning, Arlo decided to free some fishes that still managed to stay alive all during his unconsciousness. If he were to bring all these to Mother, she would send him to the ocean again and expect for something much bigger than what he would've brought. The human mind can be scary at some times. No ones ever satisfied. Arlo placed both his palms against the boat before sighing frustratedly at the struggling fishes, "If only I preferred seafood rather than meat this would've been exciting." Carrying the basket with the remaining sea creatures in his back, he jogged all the way up the hill before darkness fell upon the earth. Arlo brought the goods to Mother, her being surprised would be an understatement but he managed to get a few praise from her and the other kids, but it was temporary. The fishes were to be sold and traded tomorrow at the market, luckily Arlo didn't have to accompany her for hours, just thinking about how stinky and sticky the fish market was could make him gag. Stinky and Sticky was a great description. Anyhow, while Mother and the other orphans clean up the fishes for tomorrows display, Arlo decides to hit the crib early skipping dinner due to lack of appetite caused by the eagerness to find answers to his questions. One day for him was too much of a mystery. And he yearned to find answers. There must be something dwelling underneath the deep.
