Aeris’s pov
After being blessed by the elders of the royal family, there was a huge celebration with a feast in the castle. Even when I strictly told everyone I wanted nothing fancy for my wedding, they still kept it way too obvious. People were dancing and singing like a normal wedding, but I was tired of it. I shook my head and left the hall to return to my room. My head has been throbbing since yesterday. Everything that happened in such a short time was a pain in the ass. It took me a great blow to consume all the negative thoughts I had about this King.
It’s now too late, as my head was in the hollow. It left only me to find out about his true identity and his intentions to marry me into the kingdom he only stumbled upon. No one would come to visit a place and ask for a hand in marriage without a reason. Something wasn’t right about him. I wasn’t sure now if my kingdom would be in danger if he was going to stay.
There was a knock on the door, and I permitted the person to enter.
“Good evening, my lady!” Elly, my personal maid, came to greet me.
I smiled at her. “Elly, you must be tired. You should get some rest. You are working too hard and I can see you are exhausted.” She was young and worked two shifts to get daily bread.
“My lady, thank you for being so concerned about my health. I will take a rest once I escort you to your new chamber.” She informed me and I gasped.
“New chamber? Why?”
“Princess, you are married now. I will appoint the new king and queen to a chamber.” She clarified to me and I rolled my eyes. There was no way I would spend a night with a stranger.
“That’s stupid. I am not leaving my room.” I yelled.
“There is no other way. You know that the king, your father, already had a stroke.” Elly stated, and it made me realize I had to bend according to the rules because I was the scapegoat in all the quarrel.
“Fine! But let me change first.”
Opened my wardrobe and changed into a nightdress that I wore at night. I had no feeling of wearing the wedding gown again. Then I followed Elly into the new chamber, and it felt alienated to me. My belongings, my freedom, and my will get snatched from me. Elly left me after transferring some of my belongings into this new place. I sighed and closed the door before sitting on the edge of the bed and thinking about this new life. To be honest, I got scared, and I had good reason to be. My father told me once I got married, there would be no looking back because what you got would never get replaced easily unless you lost a lot. Even with the odds of this marriage, I wanted to do it.
Suddenly, the doors opened wide, and a shadowy figure entered the chamber. I glanced at him and turned my gaze away. He was the last person I wanted to deal with.
“Well, well! Look at you!” He chuckled and tried to hide the jealousy that rose in his heart.
I glared at him and got up on my feet to face him. “What the hell are you doing here and who let you inside the royal chambers?” My voice was high and Izel looked at me in shock.
“You changed in a day. This was not the Aeris I used to know.” He gritted his teeth.
“Same here! I felt that too. Yesterday, when I saw you with Arabella, I realized I never knew you in a first place. A backstabber! Your dirty business made me change my views about you. Now, get lost before I throw you out of this palace and leave you with no place to hide.” I yelled loudly at him.
“You are a b***h…” He pouted with his lips and it wouldn’t take much effort before I slapped him across his face.
The look on his face was priceless, as he never thought he would get such treatment from me. The one who I had loved from the bottom of my heart had broken my heart into pieces and it won’t get fixed. My trust was broken and I wouldn’t let this man stand near me.
“You are forgetting I am also holding an authority here, Aeris…” He put his hand on my neck and an enormous arm pulled Izel’s arm away from my neck.
“You better don’t touch my wife or I will break your arm from its roots.” King Caspian glared at Izel through his golden orbs.
“Not only did I touch her, but I put my entire hand on her neck. What will you do, King? Before you, I was the man in her life and believe me, I will take her back.” Izel glared back at the King and I felt humiliated by his actions.
“Guards!!!” I called the guards, and they came running into the room.
“Take this man away from my sight…” I yelled at them.
“Make sure he stays in the dungeon before I announce his fate,” King Caspian stated, and the guards bowed to him while taking Izel out of the palace.
I was surprised by his sudden change of behavior and now I doubted my trust in a man like him.
“Did he hurt you?” Caspian asked me with his gaze fixed on my neck, inspecting any mark or bruise.
“Why? Are you concerned? It seems good to see that a ruthless king has become a soft-hearted husband for his new wife.” I smirked at him and moved away from where he stood.
I felt the burning of his gaze on my back and I kept my face away from him.
“Isn’t that what husbands are supposed to do? Taking care of their wives.” He started while taking off his upper attire.
Slowly, I dropped on the bed and marked the mattress half. I was trying my best to avoid him changing his clothes, but accidentally, I glanced at him and I gaped at his toned abs. Although I have seen many warriors training on the ground, they were nothing compared to this man. Every part of his body was chiseled and toned, and the features he carried on him were no less than a Greek god.
“Like what you seeing, Princess?” Caspian stated, and it bounced me back into reality, and I cursed myself for ogling him like a little child.
“Huh!!! What? I wasn’t even looking at you.” I choked on my saliva and tried to tell a story to avoid the conversation.
“Liar!” He grinned at me before joining the bed.
“Wait!! Wait!! That’s your side, and this is mine.” I glared at him before putting the fluffy pillow in between them.
He frowned and smiled later and then laid on his side of the bed. He said nothing much but flipped on the bed, his face on the other side. I felt a bit of sadness, but I shook those thoughts because of this man; I don’t trust him.
I fell asleep quickly, but woke up to the sound of heavy breathing from someone beside me. Suddenly, I woke up and found Caspian sitting upright on the bed, and his eyes were glowing in the shade of neon yellow. I gasped and jumped out of bed. He was growling like an animal, and it scared me to see his face changing. Then, our eyes met and the next thing I knew was that I was screaming at the top of my lungs.
