When Chad learned Josh ran every morning before work, he biked to the athletic building where they first met and was waiting when Josh finished his run, breakfast at hand. Hot coffee and a healthy sandwich—egg whites on toast, from the cafe they never did manage to get to on Saturday. “When we get closer to the 10K, I’m bringing donuts,” he promised. Before Josh could protest, Chad pointed out, “You’ll need to bulk up on your carbs for the race.” Josh still couldn’t quite believe he planned to enter.
