POV: Lucifer
I brushed my hand through my hair before mind linking my beta Cody and gamma Michael to come to my office. I couldn't get the conversation I had with the Alpha of the Crescent Moon pack out of my head. They responded immediately and said they would be right there. It was only about five minutes until Michael and Cody knocked on the door and I told them to come in. Michael entered first with Cody behind him, and they sat in the chairs that were in front of my desk.
I got right to the point as I said "We are all going to the Crescent Moon pack to create a new treaty with the alpha. They have risen through the ranks in the past five years and are second only to us. I believe we should consider giving their pack more responsibility, especially since they are stronger than the original pack we've been dealing with."
I knew they weren't surprised by this considering how closely we've been watching them in the last year.
"You're coming as well?" Michael asked hesitantly.
"Yes, we will leave next week." I replied, not explaining my reasoning.
We have discussed visiting the Crescent Moon pack, but I was just going to send Michael and Cody. They knew this, but after my conversation with Alpha Damon, I decided to go as well.
They both looked confused and Cody asked, "Why? You hate going to other packs."
I sighed before saying, "That's not entirely true, I just hate having to control my lycan because of stupid Alphas, but I want to pay this Alpha a visit."
Michael and Cody smirked at my tone, knowing that it meant someone pissed me off, which isn't very hard these days.
"What'd this one do?" Michael asked.
I took a deep breath to calm my impulses, since they were making me want to punch someone in the face, before answering, "This alpha needs to be reminded of who's in charge, and to show some respect."
"That still doesn't tell us what he did?" Cody replied.
I glared at him before saying, "I was getting to that. I called Alpha Damon to inform him we wanted a new treaty with Crescent Moon and that you two would be coming to his pack in the next few months when we sorted out the details. He agreed, but his Beta was also there and said, 'He's not coming, is he? You can not let him come!' Can you believe that little runt! I can go wherever I want. And that's exactly what I said. I told Alpha Damon that I had changed my mind and that I would be going with you. I told him to expect me in one week, then I hung up on him."
“Dude, don't you think you overreacted a bit? You don't know why they didn't want you to come." Cody said with an amused smile.
I glared at him despite thinking he might be right. After all, alphas don't always want me on their land because it usually means they've done something wrong. Plus, they are all afraid of me because I am slowly losing control of my lycan. A lycan is more volatile than a wolf and the only thing that could keep the violence at bay is their mate. I have been waiting for 14 years for my mate, ever since I shifted at ten. My Lycan instincts have become more violent every day I go without her. But I ignored that, not wanting to admit that I may have acted without thinking things through.
Instead, I said, "It doesn't matter. If we do give them the responsibility of being a part of the Royal military, then I will need to be there."
Michael and Cody gave me a knowing look before Michael got serious and said, "I think Crescent moon will be a good choice to replace Dark Claw. Alpha Murphy was getting out of control."
Cody and I nodded in agreement before I said, "Agreed. We'll make preparations before leaving, Cody, since we'll be gone for two weeks, I want you to stay behind to care for the pack. Michael and I will go along with six warriors. I want Conner to come as well. That way, we can assess the strength of their warriors." I held up my hand to stop Michael before he could ask, "And yes, Summer can come as well."
Michael smiled and said a small thanks. Ever since Michael met Summer three months ago, he hasn't had to be away from her. Cody is the same way with Ashley. I have to admit, I'm jealous that my best friends have found mates while I am still alone, but I am also so happy for them. I mind link Conner, and we all continued making the arrangements for after we leave and what will happen if Alpha Damon agrees to become part of the Royal military. Even though I focused on the task at hand, in the back of my mind I wondered if I would ever find a mate to love unconditionally.
POV: Leila
I'm sitting in a tree behind the pack house thinking about the same thing I've been thinking about for a week; the Blood Moon pack are coming here, and they will be here in a few hours. I have not been able to stop thinking about it. Everything will change, I'll have to leave my family and everyone I've ever known, but I know that I want a mate, so maybe it will be okay. I just hope that my vision comes true. I should have faith in my abilities, but I still doubt them. Shaking my head, I once again tried to focus on my book and then remembered that I hadn't brought any book up here with me, but it seemed that my brain just isn't working right today. Axel said that they would be here by 4pm, and it's almost noon now, so just four more hours until my life completely changes.
I'm not sure how much time passed, but I didn't get knocked out of my contemplation until an updraft blew the most amazing scent to me. It smelled of pine and sandalwood. I've never smelled anything so amazing. I looked down behind the pack house and didn't see anything, so I sat up on the branch, moved into a squatting position, turned around, and held onto the trunk. What I saw almost made me lose my footing. There was a black SUV at the front of the pack house. I could see my brothers, warriors, and the pack members that were there to show respect to the Alpha King. I could also see three males and a woman as well as half a dozen of their warriors. I didn't need to be down there to know who they were. The Alpha King of the Blood Moon pack is here. Axel lied to me. I am so going to kill him. I know he is trying to protect me, but I'm the alpha's daughter and one of the best warriors in this pack, it's my duty to be down there, greeting them, showing my support for my brothers and pack. Plus, how come my abilities did not warn me about this?
I began climbing down as fast as I could without breaking anything and only looked up once I was a few feet above the ground. I saw my brothers begin to lead them inside the pack house. I had to hurry. I dropped the last few feet and landed in a crouch. I shot up and bolted for the back door of the pack house, not wanting to waste time going around the front. I got there just as an omega was coming out, Lizz I think it was, and did my best to not knock her down. I'll be sure to apologize later. I ran through the kitchen, laundry room, game room, and three hallways before I made it to the front of the house. I saw Axel and Damon talking to the Alpha King. The aura he gives off is ridiculously powerful. I tried to stop but couldn't do it completely and ended up colliding with Hunter, who in turn lurched forward and almost fell, shouting a, "whoa." I stumbled backward and would've fallen on my butt if Damon hadn't grabbed onto my arm.
“What are you doing here?” Axel asked, irritation showing in his green eyes.
“I'm supposed to be here unless you forgot. Which I know you didn't because you're the one that told me they were getting here in a few hours not a few minutes." I said, not bothering to hide my irritation.
They all had the grace to look guilty, which caused my irritation to stumble. I know they're just trying to protect me.
“We didn't mean anything by it, Lee, we were just trying to look after you.” Damon said, looking into his gray eyes.
I could tell that he was sincere. When he isn't being honest, Damon can never look me in the eye. I couldn't be mad at them for looking after me in the only way they know how.
“I understand that, but you shouldn't have lied. You could've just asked me to stay away." I told them, looking at them all as I spoke.
If they had asked me to stay away, I would have, if only because it would give them some peace of mind. I would have met him no matter what they did anyway. I feel a bit like a hypocrite telling them not to lie when I've been lying to them about my vision, but it was necessary they not know. What I said caused them all to look at each other and then at me before they all apologized.
I smiled at them and said, “It's alright, just don't lie to me anymore.”
They all looked relieved and nodded.
“We definitely won't, sis.” Fox said and moved toward me, putting his arm around my shoulders and pulling me away from Damon, who was still holding onto my arm.
He led me to the front where I saw the three men and woman from earlier. I was about to introduce myself when Ryder stepped forward, reached up and pulled a leaf from my red hair.
“Shoulda known.” Hunter said, smiling and shaking his head.
I couldn't help but blush. I mean, how many people with leaves in their hair make a good first impression? I'm just glad that I got dressed in nice clothes. With my dark blue off the shoulder sweater that makes my red hair stand out, black jeans, and my black converse, I think that I look pretty good, despite the leaves. So I ignored the blush and took a deep breath ready to introduce myself, but was stopped again by the smell of pine and sandalwood. This time it hit me full force but what almost knocked my feet out from under me was what my wolf Sia was saying, 'Mate'. It was even more intense than the vision and so much better.
I looked toward the scent and saw a pair of electric blue eyes already staring at me. I couldn't get the word out. It was like my throat just closed up so tight that not even a sound could come out. He apparently didn't have that problem as he looked into my eyes, my soul, and said the one word that I'd been waiting to hear for six years, “Mate.”
Everyone around us had gone quiet as we stared at each other or maybe that was just the quietness in my mind.
But either way, the silence was broken by Axel saying,"You have got to be kidding me."
