I have no words.
I can’t believe my parents just sold me out there to an arrogant-looking man! The only consolation one could get from a pragmatic marriage is to find a man that’s at least likeable! That Josiah is nowhere near likeable—damn, he’s not even passable!
I’m not really the type to walk out on my parents. As a matter of fact, I always try my best to make them proud because that’s how I think it should be.
I’ve always imagined my life to be piloted by me, and not by my parents. I’ve never imagined them taking the wheel in my life because I’ve always thought they believed in me more than anyone.
I admit I am willing to do whatever they tell me to. However, this is not right. I am willing to do everything—just not this one.
Marriage is not a joke. Marriage would mean I would share the same roof with the person I love and trust, not with a stranger who I don’t think I can even have a decent conversation with.
Why would they ask me to marry for the sake of business?
Why would we have to venture into a different type of business, in the first place? I think our business is fine and can stand alone. We don’t need an arranged marriage. We don’t need a business arrangement.
I quickly hailed a cab and told him to drop me off on the street four blocks away from Astra’s hideout.
Mom kept calling me but I refused to answer her calls. I am so disappointed that my parents could just sell me to a family I haven’t even heard of!
I need a drink tonight!
The girls are all watching some sappy Netflix movie when I arrived. They all looked at me when I entered the place.
Nanette was eating popcorn while Mitch was wiping her eyes with a tissue because she’s crying. Mona was already asleep. Ah, that movie must be boring that only those two could last watching it.
“What’s with the face?” Nanette asked me as I plopped myself beside Mona waking her up.
She glared at me but I just shrugged it off.
I took the half-full bottle of beer on the center table without caring who owned it and gulped it down.
“Woah? Are you in the mood to drink?” Mitch asked, stunned at what I just did.
I sighed and sulked. “My parents arranged me in a business marriage,” I said and got their attention.
Nanette chuckled. “Is the guy not handsome? Is that why you look like you lost a million from playing casino?”
I glared at her and she just even harder. “He’s not handsome,” I replied.
The girls all showed me disgusted looks. “That’s awful!” Mitch chimed.
Awful? It’s horrendous!
“So, who’s the man? I’m sure he’s from a very wealthy family,” Mona said.
I took a deep breath and calmed myself. “He is. He is Josiah Kim,” I nonchalantly said. “Do you know him? His father said he’s a Business Administration student in our campus. Fourth year.”
Nanette shook her head but immediately took her phone and typed something. Mitch and Mona were quick to look at Nan’s phone as if there’s something interesting in there.
Oh, hell. They might be searching for Josiah Kim on f*******: now.
“Holy hell!” Nanette’s jaw dropped as she stared at her phone. “This is not not handsome, Eunice! He looks marvelous!” She beamed.
Mitch snatched her phone from her hand and started scrolling. “Oh, wow! He’s hot, Eunice! How dare you say he’s not handsome?!”
I rolled my eyes at these girls.
Mona looked at me and glared. “It’s bad to lie, you know,” she said as she also joined the party.
I sighed and ignored them gawking at Josiah Kim.
“Your parents must really love you because they’re pairing you to this godly human,” Nanette beamed as she showed me the screen of her phone.
I narrowed my eyes and saw Josiah’s topless photo. I looked at the girls and they all groaned at my reaction.
“Sure, he has a nice body—”
“Nice is an understatement, Eunice.” Mitch cut me mid-sentence.
I glared at her. “He’s arrogant and rude.” Okay, that was a stretch. I don’t really know if he’s rude but that the thing is he looked really arrogant and there’s no way in hell I would marry him.
“He has six packs. His pectorals are perfectly built. His biceps are to die for. And above all, his face is an A+, Eunice. I don’t get why you are so in denial?” Nanette told me.
I looked at her, already tired of this conversation. “I don’t like him.”
“But why?” The three chorused.
I narrowed my eyes at them all. “Because he’s not likeable! He’s arrogant and cocky—”
“Of course he is cocky! I bet he has a big one.” Mitch giggled.
I groaned at her comment. I looked at her in disgust and disbelief. That’s disturbing!
Nanette and Mona even laughed at that.
“Either way, I don’t like him. That’s final.” I said as I downed another bottle of beer.
