Outside the Araya City Hotel, Mike stood with his phone to his ear, the atmosphere heating up after receiving the unusual news. “Good afternoon, Mike. We’re calling to inform you that you have an inheritance from your family,” the voice on the other end sounded serious but sounded so unreasonable to him.
Mike frowned. Orphaned since childhood, he had never felt the warmth of family love, let alone hearing about an inheritance from them. “You don’t have to trick me. I’m used to receiving these kinds of calls,” he replied sarcastically, taking it as an unfunny joke.
He was starting to feel annoyed. In his mind, there was only one goal: to deliver his food on time. He looked at the time on his phone, realizing that he was already late. Quickly, Mike hung up the call without giving the person on the other end a chance to explain further.
Rushing towards the hotel entrance, his feet stepped quickly, trying to grab his bag containing food. All the daily routines that had always weighed on his mind came rushing back, and the inheritance felt like an unnecessary burden. Transportation, customers to serve, and other obligations tied him down with uncertainty.
“There’s no point in thinking about the impossible. The news is just bullshit,” Mike muttered to himself, trying to push away the thought of an inheritance that seemed like it would never come.
When he arrived at the hotel, the atmosphere and hustle and bustle greeted him loudly, reminding him that life goes on. He immediately searched for clients whose orders had not been delivered, busying himself with the tasks that awaited him.
However, even though he tried hard to stay focused on his work, his curiosity still gnawed. Who was calling? Why did they say he had an inheritance? Why did this all feel so practically impossible?
Mike shook his head. “I don’t have time to think about this stupid stuff.” He tried to calm himself down as he worked, but the corner of his mind kept lying there, waiting to be revealed.
With quick, eager steps, he continued his task, although deep inside his heart a curiosity slowly but surely crept back. Could it be that, beyond the darkness of his lonely life, there was something good waiting to be found?
Mike stood outside Room 123, knocking on the door in hopes of delivering his food order. However, when the door opened, he froze for a moment in surprise. The man who opened the door was completely unfamiliar to him, but what was even more surprising was the sight behind a man—Lauren, his girlfriend, smiling in a sexy outfit that probably shouldn’t be worn in a place like this.
Unable to control herself, the food she was carrying fell to the ground, her embarrassment overflowing even more. Seeing this awkward situation, George looked annoyed, while Lauren looked confused and surprised when she saw Mike there.
“Why are you here?” Lauren asked, trying to keep her tone calm despite the unconcealable strangeness.
Mike, trying to stay calm, felt his heart pounding. “Uh… I… have an order for you,” he answered hesitantly, his eyes shifting between Lauren and the man beside her, trying to hone in on the increasingly unclear situation.
The man next to Lauren looked at Mike with a questioning gaze, as if questioning his presence. From his attitude, it was clear that he didn’t like Mike’s presence there. “You seem to have the wrong address, buddy. What are you doing here?” he said in a provocative tone, making the atmosphere even more tense.
“No, I’m right. This is Lauren's order," Mike replied, trying to explain while tidying up the fallen food. The embarrassment really spread to his face.
Lauren looked at Mike with a worried look, trying to calm the situation. "Mike, I didn't know you were coming here. Actually, I didn't invite anyone either," she said, looking confused by his presence.
Mike felt cornered. "Sorry... if you're busy, I can go. I don't want to bother..." he continued, feeling a little relieved when he started to understand that maybe he shouldn't be there.
However, his curiosity still burned. Why was Lauren here with another man? And was their relationship serious? Mike felt a pain in his heart, knowing how difficult this situation was, especially when his feelings for Lauren seemed to be trapped in an endless turmoil.
"Don't go," Lauren pleaded, stepping forward as if to stop him. "We need to talk."
This kind of situation felt complicated, but Mike knew he had to be the man. “Okay, if you want to talk, I’ll wait outside,” he said, preparing to back away, figuring it might be better to walk away than to get stuck in this awkward situation.
As Mike turned to leave, his heart raced. Was there any hope of understanding what was really going on between them? With all the twists and turns, Mike felt like he was falling into darkness, but he held on to his courage to move forward, even though the path ahead seemed blurry.
The man standing at the door eyed Mike with disdain, his eyes scanning the figure of Mike standing before them. Mike was of medium build but handsome, wearing a delivery uniform that showed his hard work and effort. His tanned skin, the result of hours of exposure to the sun, gave him a certain charm.
When George realized Lauren was Mike’s girlfriend, a look of curiosity and disdain crossed his face. He seemed unfazed by the fact that their affair had been exposed. Though the situation should have made him panic, he remained calm, as if he had everything under control.
“So, you were the one who tried to ruin our relationship yesterday?” he asked in a condescending tone, not caring that this was hurting Lauren and Mike. “You’re not on my level,” he added, his eyes staring at Mike as if he were someone inferior.
Mike felt his breath stop for a moment. The words were loud like a thud that shook his soul. Was this how George acted? Feeling like he was being barked at, Mike held back his anger and gathered his thoughts. “What do you mean by that?” he asked, trying to keep his cool despite the throbbing in his chest.
Lauren darted her eyes between Mike and George, seemingly concerned by the tension in the air. “Hey! This isn’t the time or place to be talking like this,” she said, her voice firm but gentle, hoping to defuse the situation before it got worse.
George ignored Lauren’s words, keeping his gaze focused on Mike. “You know, Mike, not everyone in this world is like you. Not everyone has to struggle to get by. You’re a poor college student with this job—and where would you fit into my life?” he said in a mocking tone as if belittling Mike’s efforts.
Mike’s blood began to boil, but he knew that acting emotionally wouldn’t get him anywhere. “I don’t need to explain myself to you. Everyone has their own struggles, and there’s no reason to belittle anyone,” he replied, keeping his fingers in check.
Lauren looked at Mike with surprise and support on her face, realizing that this was a difficult moment. “Mike, maybe we should go and…” she said, trying to ease the tension.
