Dear Diary,
So, it’s official. Moving day is set for two weeks from now. Two weeks. I can hardly wrap my head around it. It feels like I’ve been toying with this idea for ages, and now it’s actually happening. The kids and I are heading to the ranch—and I still can’t believe it. It’s all moving so fast, but at the same time, I’m ready. I think.
The plan is to move everything over in one day—grab the essentials, make sure we’re set up in the cottage, and then take the following week to settle in. I’ve already started packing—okay, let’s be honest, I’ve thrown a few things in boxes while pretending I’m organized—but in one week, I’ll actually start working at the ranch. It’s happening.
The kids are still adjusting to the idea, but they’re excited. They’ll be with me on the weeks I have them, and then with their dad the weeks they don’t. Week on, week off. It’s a good system. And honestly, it makes the move easier knowing I’ll have time to adjust without the pressure of everything being on my shoulders all the time. They’ll have their own space on the ranch, new friends to make, and a whole world of adventure right outside the door.
As for me, I’m a bundle of nerves and excitement. I know it’s going to be a change—big, scary, life-altering change—but I think it’s the kind of change I need. Maybe it’s just a chapter, maybe a whole new story. But whatever it is, I’m diving in.
Okay, let’s talk about the room—the one in the new cottage. I’m already daydreaming about it. I’m picturing soft, cozy vibes with a touch of rustic charm, because let’s be real, this is a ranch cottage, and I’m here for all the cozy, laid-back, “I might be a cowgirl” feels.
First off, I think I’m going to start with the bed. Big and comfy, definitely a priority. I’m thinking a simple, yet chic farmhouse-style bed frame, maybe in a warm, weathered wood—nothing too fancy, but still inviting. I want the bedding to feel like a hug when I collapse into it after a long day. White or light cream with a mix of soft throws and plenty of pillows (because who doesn’t love a pillow mountain?). And maybe—just maybe—I'll add a blanket that screams "I'm here to relax," with just a little bit of personality. Maybe something with a southwestern print, just to give it that ranch vibe without overdoing it.
Next, the walls. I’m leaning toward soft, muted tones. Maybe a light sage green or a soft gray to keep things calm and peaceful. I’ve seen some vintage signs and artwork with western and floral elements that could tie in perfectly. A mix of old and new—maybe a reclaimed wood mirror for that rustic touch, some framed art of wide-open spaces (because I’m living the dream now), and a few personal photos of the kids and me.
For the floor, I think I’ll go for something durable but cozy. Maybe a large, plush rug that brings warmth to the room and adds a touch of luxury without being too delicate. We’re on a ranch, after all.
Lighting is a big one for me too. I’m imagining some string lights or a few antique-style lamps, something soft and warm to give the room that golden glow when the sun sets behind the hills. Maybe a couple of candles too—just to add that homely scent.
And the best part? The windows. I’ve heard the views are stunning, so I’m planning on keeping the windows free of heavy curtains, maybe just light linen drapes that let the sunlight pour in. Can’t hide that view, can I?
I want the space to be somewhere I can relax, unwind, and feel like me. A blend of comfort and personality with a few touches of that rustic ranch charm. I think it’s going to feel like home in no time.
I’m not entirely sure what I’m walking into. Will the job be what I expect? Will the kids love the new life, or will they miss their old routines? And Cole... will I see him more? Will my heart do that stupid flutter every time he walks past? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Two weeks. Let’s do this.
Yours,
The Cowgirl Who’s Almost Ready
