Leigh
Alpha August sat down with her in his office. Finally, she’d stopped arguing with him about Farley going with her as well. Didn’t like it but couldn’t it seem, do anything at all about it. There was no one else with Alpha blood that could go.
“Your elite warriors, you’ll take them all, Leigh. Use them to train Cloudy Haven’s warriors, bring their skill level up. I want you to take your bo staff, to instill coordination and good body control. Also, take your escrima sticks.
“They’re good tools for that small pack for attack and defence. It’ll sharpen their timing and self-control, teach them to counterattack, all which are good and necessary skills to have. Can also be done without weapons, so improves their hand-to-hand combat.”
“I understand all of that,” She nodded, “it will improve the warriors' speed, timing, co-ordination and their flexibility as well. The empty-handed techniques to go with them will also be good learning and training for them.”
These were all things that her grandfather, Walker, had taught her to do himself. She trained alongside him when she was home, and helped him to train the new warriors here interested in weapons combat. She also liked working with them and helping them to train. It also gave her time with her grandfather, which she liked as well.
“Farley will not be interrupting me and my warriors?”
“No, I will be laying down some ground rules for him. Despite that boy being a royal pain in your backside, Leigh, not only does he know Alpha Micheal, he knows the layout of the pack and will be good at setting up defences for it as well.”
She just nodded, she didn’t really go to other packs if Farley was going to them, and tried as best she could to keep away from him where it was possible, especially if there was no super vision for him.
“He’s also a good fighter. You know that yourself, Leigh. Is useful in a battle.”
She also knew that, “Only because he has to defend himself from me on a regular basis, you know that right.”
August chuckled to himself. “Yes, you’ve trained him well by putting him in his place over the years, better than actually training, proper fighting with you increased his skills greatly. I thank you for that.”
Leigh sighed, “It’ll only get him so far, you know that right. I’m actually stronger than him,” she murmured.
“Yes, I do. Got that bear strength, a good thing.”
“I might just rip his head clean off one day,” she muttered.
August sighed but said nothing, he was likely aware that one day their infighting was going to get one of them killed and August did know she was not only the stronger of the two of them, she had better skills than Farley did.
It wasn’t that he lacked in training, he did train just like everyone else did, put in the hard yards to become a strong warrior for this pack, but beating her was not something he could do. Why he picked fights with her, she didn’t know.
“You should go, prep your gear and talk to your unit Leigh. I’ve not yet told Farley about this. But I will be explaining to him, he’s only in charge of the 50 warriors there for defence of the pack, not you or your unit. You are there for training purposes.”
“If something else crops up?” she asked.
“Hm. I guess that depends on what that is. Are you thinking about tracking and sourcing out the attacker?”
“If it can be done, my unit and I are trained for that.”
“If it comes up, you can offer Micheal the assistance.” August nodded. “He’ll likely accept it. Though another alpha has already tried it and got dead ended.”
“Hmm, might not be trained like I am or scent anywhere near as good as Jara can. She's got a bear’s sense of smell up to 50klm, and you know it. Likely I can track better than an Alpha wolf, which can what, track what 5 to 12klm?”
“Yes, got yourself a super snout.” He smiled, “offer if you think it’s helpful.” He nodded.
She smiled, that she and Jara did, though Silas, a full bear shifter and his full bloodline, could scent 70klm, nothing got passed her old man and his beast.
It's why she and he were used for tracking and retrieving, rarely did anything get passed them, only if it was scent masked and literally gave off nothing at all. Rogues were easy to track for her and her father.
“I’ll have Micheal keep you and Farley separated, sleep in different parts of the pack, that should help minimize interactions between you two.”
“You hope, when do we leave?”
“This afternoon, be there by dinner time tonight.”
“You said a few weeks, then maybe a month. What are you actually expecting time wise inside that pack?” she had to ask to know how hard to train those warriors.
“Until Alpha Micheal thinks it’s safe.” He sighed a little. “It’s why I can’t go. I believe he’ll have other packs arriving as well, that will also help contain Farley, I believe.”
“Again, you hope. So pack for the long haul, or until I kill Farley. If that happens, then what?” she asked. It was always on the cards. Jara hated him as much as Leigh herself did.
“Just don’t kill him Leigh, it’s that simple.” August shook his head and waved her away. “Pack heavy.”
“Will do.” Was all she stated as she walked out of the office. Just great could be months away with that fucktard harassing her at every opportunity. It was the middle of summer, and she did struggle with that, though not as much as spring. She didn’t really want to have to be off pack territory right now.
She should just be thankful that she was in charge of training and that was it, she guessed, didn’t have to be out there in the woods patrolling. So she would be able to just keep to herself, be busy the entire time she was there.
Training herself, training the warriors, supervising the warriors, making her own training schedule and staying the hell away from Farley.
She knew he wasn’t going to turn the job down, he was getting to go as an acting Alpha, he was going to love that. Be there lording himself over the men. Dishing out the orders, and expecting everyone to do as he told them to.
Though that brought a smile to her face, everyone but her and her unit, that was. She was in charge. August had just told her so, and she could punish that man at will. That ex of hers trying to touch her just once in an inappropriate manner, and she was putting silver cuffs on him and tossing his ass in the cells of that pack. If they didn’t have a shaming post, that was.
They had them here in Nightshade, four of them to be exact, but August favoured the infraction markers over the shaming posts.
She mind-linked to her unit and told them to all pack and be ready to leave the pack for allied assistance. They were all headed out in a matter of hours, to pack heavy; they could be gone for a few weeks to a month or more. Kiss their Mates if they had them and hug their pups. To be in front of the packhouse and ready by 1pm.
Her father just stared at her and sighed, he understood her wanting to stay within the pack throughout spring and summer, it was much safer here for her and the needs that she had when they decided to arise. She had a handful of wolves in this pack to sate her needs when they arose. She did not do that with anyone in her unit.
She didn’t know which 50 warriors Alpha August was going to assign either, and wasn’t about to go and ask him for specific ones either. She’d never explained that need to anyone outside of her four closest, her direct unit, they had to know, her father understood, it was part of who they were. Told her it was actually normal for a female bear shifter. Hers was a little different to a full bear shifter due to her being a hybrid. But still it held similarities.
He hugged her once she was all packed and murmured in her ear, “Just, pick a good, strong one to get the job done. Don’t think about it, it means nothing till one is mated off.”
She’d just nodded and sighed, it did mean nothing. Hadn’t had the issue until she’d scented out Farley and, according to her father, it only started once you had scent out your Mate, though continued always from that point on.
She stood in front of the packhouse with her unit and a convoy of cars. August only bought Ram Warlock V8 Hemi Crew Cabs. They were all the same colour, Crystal Granite, she was leaned up against the one she was to get in. Could see Farley’s BMW X4 in bright red at the front of the line. He just had to have a car that stood out from the rest of the pack.
He was leaning back on it with his sunglasses on, smiling down at the she-wolf all leaned into him, letting her touch him all over, looking like the tosser that he was. He’d not seen her yet, was too busy copping a feel of that she-wolf. He was only mean to her, not to anyone else.
She knew the minute he saw her, as she stepped away from the Ram, to greet August as he came down the front steps, watched him stalk over to her. “What the hell are you doing here?” he shot right at her.
It appeared that August had not yet told him she was going. Leigh smiled right at him, fully amused, “I’m going as the trainer.”
“The hell you are. I’m the Alpha on this mission, and you ain’t f*****g coming with me.”
“Really? You might want to check that with your actual Alpha.”
“Enough you two.” It was August. “Move Farley, go back to your car. Leigh is going, is my top elite warrior trainer. I’ve put her in charge of training Alpha Micheal's men.”
“What?” Farley gasped, turning to look at August. “Her,” he pointed at Leigh, “in charge?”
“Yes.”
“You can’t be freaking serious. You stated I was in charge.”
“I did, in charge of the 50 warriors you were taking. Leigh here is in charge of her unit, all 20 are going.”
“And if we have to go into battle,” Farley grated out.
“You’ll be in charge of your men and she hers. Simple and easy. There will also be no arguing with me about it, Farley…oh, there was one more thing I had to tell you, what was that now…” he stood as if thinking, and Leigh saw it draw everyone here waiting, attention. “If Micheal reports you harass Leigh, that punishment will be followed through. Get in your car and go.” August stated, staring right at him.
Leigh didn’t really say anything as Farley stood and glared at her, “Oh and Farley, Leigh knows all about the punishment to be upheld. She has the right to punish you if she sees fit for breaking the rules. Can call and report your behaviour to me herself, and I’ll have it confirmed by Alpha Micheal himself. So, watch yourself and behave, or you’ll be de-ranked the minute you get home.” He announced for all here to hear.
Farley glared right at her and then just turned and stalked away to his car, got in it and screamed away from the packhouse. August looked at her. “Please play nice.”
“That is not up to me, I always play nice till I can’t,” she stated and got in her car.
Chrissy hopped up into the truck and shook her head. “I have a feeling it’s going to be a long few weeks.”
“Me too.” Leigh sighed and they were off.
