8 There were steps outside the hotel that led up onto Tower Bridge. Lynette often took herself up there when she needed a break from everyone else. She’d always been alone there before, but tonight she found Selena sitting in the shadows, tucked away in a corner. The light was such that she’d have walked straight past had the girl not flinched and pulled her knees up out of the way. ‘You scared the life out of me, love,’ Lynette said, her heart pounding. ‘Sorry,’ Selena grunted, and she did what she could to make herself as small as possible so that Lynette could get past. ‘What are you doing up here on your own?’ ‘I’m not on my own anymore, am I?’ Selena replied shortly. ‘Fair point.
