I Adopted My Twin Mates
Veronica Fox
Theon's POV
"Two alphas, stuck in a damn dog pound," Thaddeus grumbled through our mind-link while his wolf's large head butted against my shoulder. I stumbled over exaggeratedly. The cool cemented floor had started to comfort the large mounds of hair that began to sprout with our time here. It was almost comforting, almost. "If grandmother had told me she saw this in her vision, I would have laughed in her face. You are an i***t, by the way," Thaddeus added.
"Just today? Or the other 93 days we have been in here?" I joked as Thaddeus snapped his jaws close to my ears. His teeth were itching to take a bite at my scruff, but being the annoying twin, he would just have to make do. We could feel each other's pain, and I knew he didn't want to feel that constant tug at his own ear.
I huffed as I shook my head to get rid of the wind that blew in my ear. Our black fur has started to become matted. The chained linked cages we have slept in had only angered our wolves; becoming irritable with each other was inevitable. We were alpha males stuck in a nine by a thirteen-foot dog run, something the humans called a 'dog pound.'
"Theon, this is getting ridiculous. I'm going to shift back one day in front of all these humans, and it won't be a pretty sight," Thaddeus growled again as he jumped on the cage to shake it. Thaddeus was the hot-headed one with no time for patience. He was all in a spur-of-the-moment type of guy. It made him a great fighter to spar with, but I was the tactful one. I liked to plan, wait for my enemy, and strike with the least amount of blows possible.
"Patience, brother. I feel today is the day." A worker walked by our cage, and Thaddeus began salivating, snapping, and growling his maw towards them. The male looked on in horror as he skipped our section of the pens. Owners of this prison had also taken it upon themselves to keep the other dogs away, fearing we would bring pieces of their bodies into our cage and eat them. We had straight up refused to eat dog food, and since this was a no-kill shelter, they had to feed us something.
Steaks, ground beef, and some vegetables were thrown in, and we scarfed it all down. Our bellies were sure to be nothing but mush once we left here. No more six-pack for our mate. No-sir.
"She isn't coming, just like the past 93 days." Thaddeus paced the cage up and down a few more times before he finally curled up in the corner. His brows furrowed as he closed his eyes.
Thaddeus took it hard. Getting captured by a bunch of humans and not finding our mate just yet had hit his ego. Thaddeus was a wild beast just like our father, Seth, King of the Shifters. I took some of our mother's traits, patience, and grace; now I am no p***y, I could put up one hell of a fight just like Thaddeus.
Our grandmother held the gift of foresight; at times, she could hone in on certain family members. Once she was able to see her twin grandsons with their mate, she immediately told us to pack our bags and head for the Earth realm. Without question, we were given a weeks' worth of lessons about Earth from our mother, who was once human and left to find our mate. The one-woman that would pull at our heartstrings for the rest of time would be found, no matter how long it took us. Except, Thaddeus doesn't have patience.
Our mate being human wasn't part of the plan; if she was a wolf, my brother and I planned to mate and mark her on the spot. Our years of research for the perfect mating were thrown out the window, and now we will have to go at a snail's pace in wolf standards.
Ah, yes, the research. We read, watched, and took pointers from our friends who had already released their own beasts on other unmated females. We both agreed to wait, to be different. We wanted our d***s to be buried only in our mate. Not a substitute. Our mother had waited for our father, and father always had guilt in the back of his mind. Not us. We won't be like that.
We had visited several packs along the way and as we traveled. On month six into our journey, we were ambushed by a pack of rogues. I wanted to take the Northern route; my wolf Duke was pulling me in such a direction. However, the rogues had other plans and used grenade-like silver powder that infiltrated in the air. It attacked our lungs so we couldn't breathe, and the two strong alphas were taken down instantly.
Waking up in a cage full of humans staring down at you like a science experiment wasn't great to wake up to. Being the action kind of guy he was, Thaddeus took this as his time to bite a human, something we try not to do. He let go, but the damage was done. We were deemed "unadoptable" and stuck in a cage.
Thaddeus' light snores filled our side of the pound as I sat patiently at the front door of the cage. Cameras were all around the facility, so shifting was out of the question. The locks couldn't be picked, especially if you didn't have movable thumbs. I huffed again, feeling that strange pull I felt before we were attacked. It was more potent today, and I wondered if Thaddeus could feel it too, but he was just being his pessimistic self and blaming it on heartburn.
Ears perking up, lifting my snout, I could smell the faint smell of ginger snaps and cinnamon. It was heaven; it reminded me of home, Christmas, and family. Pulling in one large sniff, the door opened at the far end of the large facility, and all the dogs went wild. The smaller ones were yipping and pawing at the gates, trying to look adorable. The keyword was trying; they looked like nothing but little rats running around the cage.
The cinnamon smell started to become stronger, and Thaddeus was at my side in an instant. He nudged me, and I nodded my head in realization. This could be our moment, the woman we had been looking for. This could be her. Day number 93 in the cage, could it really be it?
We had yet to see anyone, the cages were tall, and signs blocked our view. Some signs held warnings, medical information, personality traits. Ours held a caution sign, 'we bite,' 'not for children, and 'unadoptable." Thaddeus thought it was hilarious, me not so much.
The worker, known as Todd, was explaining the available different types of animals. The black cap the woman was wearing was nodding up and down, her face was still not in view, but her fiery red hair was. It was long and curled as it stuck out of the back of her hat. It would swish side to side, throwing that cinnamon scent our way.
"You know what they say about redheads…," Thaddeus growled triumphantly. I didn't even humor him with a response as she came into view. She was still a few stalls away. Our woman was mouthwatering, and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into the finest piece of ass I had ever seen. It was curvy, it was thick, and best of all, it was mine. Thaddeus had always been into breasts, and he was drooling up a storm. Her breasts must have fit his mind of perfection.
We had saved ourselves for our mate, our d***s were for her alone, and after 30 years of waiting, it was going to be torture for us to wait much longer if she put up a fight. I had a feeling she would. Not with the scowl she was giving to dear old Todd.
Walking with confidence, her black shirt and pants gave nothing away. Her face was stoic as she crossed her arms and her breasts as they lifted. Todd was obviously staring, and she picked up on it fast.
"What do you think, Trinity?" Todd gave her a smirk while looking her up and down. If he thinks he has a chance, he is mistaken.
"Trinity, it's perfect," Thaddeus purred, and I did the same.
"All I see are some lap dogs. I told you I needed some guard dogs, not some yippie dogs that need a stroller to keep up," she spoke softly as she looked down at a short-legged dog. Her stature didn't meet her voice which only made me more curious about her. The accent her voice spoke had a hint of Italian, which I found weird with a redhead.
"We have more; come on this way. Back here, we keep some of our pitbull and German Shephard mixes." Todd moved out of the way so Trinity could walk forward so he could get a perfect view of her ass. Honestly, couldn't blame him, her ass was excellent, but the loud growl I gave to him in warning made his head snap up.
Trinity's eyes glanced over to our cage. Trying to act like noble and well-behaved dogs, we sat at the front of the cage with our tails wagging and chests puffed out. Trinity's shoes clicked as she walked towards us, and she removed her hat to get a good look at us. The red flamed curls danced around her face as they kissed her cheekbones. I long to be that piece of hair. Thaddeus whined at my side. He was just like dad, a whiny baby when it came to his mate.
Trinity's fingers went through to touch my snout when Todd took her hand and pulled it away. "You don't want to touch those," he warned as she stood back up. "They are really aggressive. If we were a kill shelter, they would be long gone by now."
Trinity's rigid body slumped. "So, you just let them live in a cage and suffer? That's terrible!" She didn't even give Todd a glance as she spoke, not even humoring the college kid. "They seem perfectly well behaved to me," her voice went soft as she got closer.
"Puppy dog eyes, Thaddeus!" We both gave a little whine as she came close again. Her eyes widened as she looked at both of us. Could she feel a pull to us like we do?
"What are their names?" she mused, still not touching our snouts. A slight smile graced her pink lips as she bit her bottom lip.
"Bambi and Thumper," Todd scoffed as he took one arm and leaned against the cage. "We thought we would give them less-intimidating names so they would be more approachable."
Trinity rolled her eyes, "what the f**k?" she whispered to us. "No wonder you guys are grouchy to them, living around pricks like that?"
"Dear gods, I love her," Thaddeus panted. Licking through the gates, Trinity put one lone finger through, and we eagerly licked.
"Move over, damn it and get your tongue away from mine!" Thaddeus growled in my head.
"She tastes like a damn cookie, though!" I chuckled as her finger backed away.
"I'll take them," Trinity put her hat back on her head and held out her hand. Todd looked at her from her hand to the cage.
"Y-you can't. Those dogs are unadoptable. They will hurt you!"
"I'll hurt you if you don't give me the keys. I want Bambi and Thumper, so get a move on." Trinity's voice became annoyed as she tapped her foot. Todd tried to deescalate the situation, but he was only making it worse.
"How about I take you to a nice dinner instead and let you think about it? We can come back here afterward, and if you still want the dogs, I'll let you have them. I just want you to think about it for a few hours." Todd gave the college jock smirk as he tried to guide Trinity down the hallway. Todd wasn't a bad-looking guy, but he was touching what was mine, ours. His hand landed on the small of her back at first but went a bit lower than anyone's liking. Thaddeus growled loudly as his teeth hit the metal cage. They were both still close enough we could smell the anxiousness of Trinity.
Trinity looked back at us and raised a brow. Her hand came around so quickly to grab Todd's hand I almost missed it. She held enough leverage that when she turned around, she clear threw him over her shoulder. Todd laid groaning on the cemented floor and right into a pile of dog piss.
Thaddeus started howling. "f**k yeah, that's my girl!"
"It worked," she whispered as she silently fist-pumped the air. Her black leggings hugged her ass as she did her happy dance, causing her thick thighs to have our d***s throbbing. Badass.
"What's going on in here?" The owner of the pound came around the corner from the office. The older gentleman let, the younger folk run the place. He just concentrated on getting donations for food and vet care for some of the animals. Todd groaned as he started to get up, rubbing his ass from the blunt force trauma of dog piss.
"This guy," Trinity started pointing accusingly, "touched my butt!" she pointed back at her sweet derriere. "Annnnd!" she drawled. "He said I couldn't adopt these two dogs," she waved at us. The owner glanced down at a shameful Todd, and the owner only pointed to the door for him to leave.
"I'll get the paperwork," the owner announced unamused as he gave a few choice words to good 'ole Todd. "You will have to sign a waiver saying you know the risks of taking on these animals. I can't have you coming back to sue me. " Trinity continued to shake her head.
"No, sir, I would never!!" she saluted as she ran back to our cage. The keys were located a few feet above the lock, but she easily grabbed them and unlocked the cage. Both of us stepped back and sat our rumps on the floor; she walked in and closed the cage door behind her.
"Are you going to be good boys for me?" She cooed, and we rushed towards her, licking every part of her opened skinned body we could, which wasn't a lot. Her face got most of our kisses.
My snout buried itself into her chest, and her ass fell backward on the floor. Laughing loudly, she hugged us close as I continued to rub my scent all over her. Thaddeus was scratching his head near her belly when his nose slipped and went right between her legs. Trinity didn't notice, and Thaddeus started taking giant whiffs of her. "Dear gods," he mumbled as he came out and shook his head. "I can't wait to be balls deep in that."
Trinity laughed again and gained her footing. She rubbed our chests with her nails and somehow found our sweet spots. Both of our feet started hammering the floor while she giggled.
"f**k, f**k, f**k," Thaddeus howled in my head.
"Told you she would find us," I groaned as she hit another sweet spot. My wolf was dying for more of her scratches.
"You like the scritches, don't you?" she baby talked.
"Don't ruin the moment," Thaddeus groaned again.
