Theon's POV
After giving a quick lick to Trinity's cheek, I dashed out the door. Probably not the smartest thing, but I wanted to feel that bit of closeness to her as I could. The bond was powerful, and the urge to show her our true selves had started to rattle my brain. How in the hell were we going to do it without making her freak the f**k out?
Then again, our mother took it with stride, but she had a bit of royal blood in her. Shifting in front of Trinity would be a no. No human could stomach that, could they? My feet lightly hit the leaves as I continued to patter through the forest floor. My nose was in the air, twitching at any sort of familiar smell of our bag. A mixture of Thaddeus and my scents intertwined the bag, and the scent of his leather and my whisky smell was faint but there.
It surprised me that Trinity could depict our smells so easily. She is our mate, however. Our mate was damn intelligent and f*****g sexy as hell.
The smell became stronger the further I ran, jumping through puddles and having the leaves fly out from under my paws. The air was clean, much cleaner than most places we had searched, and I was all the more thankful we found our mate in an area that took care of their surroundings.
I came to a clearing, one that was barren of shrubs, trees, and brush. This looked like a meeting spot for rogues, so being quiet and careful were my top priorities right now. Sneaking around each tree and sniffing for our bag, I found it the one tree with the widest girth and the most difficult to climb. Of course, Thaddeus would have found this tree the best. Not just anyone would be able to climb this tree; I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be me either.
Taking my nose, I used it to sniff around for any sort of rope or vine. If I could find a vine and wrap it around the tree, it could help climb up the large trunk. Coming up with nothing, I gritted my teeth and shifted back into human form. Staying naked in the forest for an extended period would be bad news. If some humans walked up, they would think I was crazy and arrest me for such a thing.
Even the werewolves in the Earth realm had modesty; they were becoming too human conscious. Hiding shorts in every tree hole in a damn-mile radius was ridiculous. Extending my claws on both my feet and my hands, I shoved the sharp pointed ends in the tree. I hoped to master my father's incredible skill of half shifting, something royal Alphas could do. It certainly would have taken me less time to climb this f*****g tree.
After a few swipes here and there, I reached the biggest limb on the tree and pulled the bag down. Landing on the balls of my feet I ruffled through the bag to find some shorts. Once dressed, pulling the map out that our mother gave us, I tried to place exactly where I was. The closest pack territory wasn't but two miles away. It was further from town, but Thaddeus was with Trinity, so she's protected.
Shoving the rest of the supplies back in, I headed northwest to the Red Moon Pack. They were an average size pack for North America, with mostly darker-skinned folk and some natives of this continent. They were one with nature and shied away from most human contact, something I appreciated. Bergarian has kept most of our ways into that of nature. Still, now we are slowly using technology at a minimalist level for some comforts. Many outlying packs and shifter colonies have chosen to keep their ways more natural as well.
I kept my human form so I didn't hold a threat and held onto my royal identification papers. Being in Bergarian, I wouldn't need such things, but werewolves that lived on Earth didn't get much information regarding our true home. As I approached, three wolves, all red in color, gave a warning growl.
"Come in peace," I dropped my bag and put my identification papers on the ground, and stepped back. Not only was my picture, name, and lineage on the document but also my family's smell, the royal family's smell. The one wolf in the middle immediately bowed as the others followed. "None of that. I just need to communicate back home. Is there a resident witch in your pack?" The middle wolf nodded and waved his head to follow.
I jogged alongside them in human form. My human food pudge from sitting in a cell was long overdue for a good run. The bit of conditioning I had lost was there, but I continued to keep up with the well-trained warriors beside me.
A small pack house stood in the middle, and several small cabins were off to the side as we approached. Some were chopping wood, and several children were running around laughing banging each other with sticks. "Greetings," I heard a deep voice behind me.
It was Alpha Big Paw, a native to these lands. Generations ago, his family was turned into werewolves through a mating bond. He was large, not as big as my father, but his stature would scare any human. "It is an honor to have you here," he bowed. "I never thought I would see the day to have a royal on our pack grounds. Is there anything we owe to this special visit?" His white teeth gleamed with appreciation as his Luna approached. Her long, straight, black hair dusted in front of her protruding stomach as she held onto Big Paw.
"A pleasure," she bowed her head as she held tight to her mate.
"Thank you, it is a pleasure to be here. I wish it was in better circumstances, but I need to you use your resident witch to contact my family. We lost communication months ago, and we didn't want to worry our mother." Alpha Big Paw glanced at his mate as she walked away.
"My mate will help you; she is our resident witch," he smiled as she walked to her hut that lay to the west side of the house. "I met her at an Alpha meeting regarding peace treaties, and she was head of the peace council that provided neutral grounds."
"Congratulations, you both look happy." I let out a large sigh, thinking of Trinity working in that terrible coffee shop dealing with those bastards. Josiah's head was going to be on a spike by the time we left this damn town.
"I'm guessing you are here looking for your mate; that is why you left Bergarian?" I nodded as we walked to his mates' hut. "Yes, Thaddeus is watching over her while I retrieved our belongings." I could not go into detail on how we met; I was still slightly embarrassed.
"Come," I heard a small voice call within the hut. The incense was burning, and a round table sat in the middle with three chairs. "I'll have to have my mate help me with this. I hope you don't mind." I shook my head no as I went to sit in the chair.
"Since we have mated and I have become pregnant, my powers have been a little weak. Having my mate here helps me steady them." Using her hand to lift the opaque covering, a small crystal ball sat on a rack.
Holding out her hands, Big Paw caressed his fingers with hers. "Lenhi, don't overdo it." Smiling back at him, she gave him a quick kiss. "It's just a communication spell." Lenhi looked at me, "you've done this before, I assume. Just concentrate on who you wish to see. I will project, and the mirror closest to the person you seek will light up, and you can speak to them.
Lenhi started whispering, and the room became dark, all for the incense burner was our light until the ball began to glow. Depictions of several people came to view and then stopped as the mirror looked into my mother's bedroom. "Mom?" I called out but heard nothing.
"Mom, can you hear me? It's Theon!" The rustling of bed covers was heard until I heard my dad growl. "f**k," he cursed as I heard lips smack. Oh s**t, did I interrupt? One thing you did not do in our home was interrupt dad with mom during their special time. Which was all the time, and it was disgusting.
"Alpha!" Mom whimpered as I heard sheets ripping. "More!" I heard her again, but I could not let them continue. I had another Alpha and his mate snickering as I rolled my eyes.
"MOTHER, FATHER! I'M CALLING YOU!" Mom let out a little yip, and my father snarled. "Let him leave a message," I heard the bed bang again.
"C-can you just cut the call, and we can call her back or something?" I pleaded. Lenhi and the Big Paw started laughing uncontrollably as I rubbed my temples. "I'll come back," I began to stand, but over the roars of laughter, Lenhi waved me back in my seat.
"Once they are finished, the spell will reveal her mirror again," she snorted as she laughed.
"Gods, I'm sorry. They just don't stop." Rubbing my temples, Alpha Big Paw wiped away an imaginary tear.
"Don't be, when we visited before you were born, they were like that. They do have something special. You cannot deny that." Before I could comment, the sphere returned to life, and my mom was at the other end. Her hair was a mess, and she had a sheet covering her chest.
"Theon? Is that you?! Oh, gods, my baby is Okay! Where is your brother? Is he alright too? Thaddeus?" She looked around to see the Alpha and Luna.
"I am so sorry; I hope you didn't see…." Lenhi waved her hand.
"No worries, we know it all too well. Your son was quite frantic to get in touch. I didn't give any warning; that was my fault." Mom laughed and waved her hand dismissively.
"Nothing that our son doesn't know about anyway." I heard dad mumbling a few curse words behind mom, and he threw a shirt on.
"What is it, Theon? Where is your mate?" Right, down to the point. Mom shoved him as he picked her up and put her on her lap. "Come on, we haven't got all day," my dad gruffed as he held mom tighter.
"We did find her! She's great mom, really gorgeous," I unknowingly gushed. "We did run into a few problems before we met her, but we are fine now. They are making some sort of grenades here with silver dust. We got caught in the crossfire and were captured for the past three months." Mom gasped as she gripped hold of the mirror, causing her sheet to shift.
"Watch it," Dad growled at her playfully as she looked frantic. "You got out; you escaped! Who was it? Do we need to send guards? If you are near Lenhi then you are in the upper Midwest! We can be out there in three days!" Mom tried to leave, but dad held onto her tight.
"Wait a minute, love; I want to know how they escaped first." Dad liked details, and I wasn't getting out of this one.
"Lots of luck, now I was just letting you know we are fine and we will bring our mate when she is ready. We haven't told her yet." Dad glared at me; it was a glare of, 'don't test my authority, I will use my ultimate alpha power on you,' kind of look. I groaned and wiped my hands down my face.
"Fine, I will tell you, but no one says a word until I am done."
I didn't leave anything out. I told them about the rogues, grenades of silver dust, getting caught in a damn dog pound. Our mate actually sprung us, and now we are her two pets, biding time until we find the right moment to tell her who we are. On top of it all, her father seems to be after her, and we have to protect her from being tracked down. There was silence on both ends. My parents, along with the Alpha and Luna, stared at me with mouths hanging open. As soon as I sat by in my chair, signaling that my story was over, laughter filled the hut as I turned my head in embarrassment.
"His own mate saved him before he could save her!" Dad bellowed while mom looked on with such love. If she was in the same room, she would have been rubbing my hand, telling me how unfortunate it was, and everything would be alright. The look she gave me as little giggles left her mouth let me know she was on my side.
"Now listen," she spoke as the laughter began to die down. "It sounds to me that you need to tell her as soon as you can and get her here for her safety, but delicately." Mom's eyes started to wander back to Dad's. "There will never be an easy way, right babe?" Dad nuzzled into her neck.
"No, there won't be. Just don't shift in front of her or be naked. Human women that aren't used to nakedness like we are and tend to shy away from that."
"Right," my mom laughed. "You will figure something out; I know you will. Just don't leave Thaddeus alone with her for too long, or you might have that scenario actually happen." Mom rolled her eyes as Dad's glimmered with mischief.
"He did get that from my side, huh?"
I talked with mom and dad for a few more minutes, mostly mom reminding me to be good to our mate and make sure she is well taken care of. Dad was also concerned about the silver grenade dust and would have some surrounding packs check out the area we were taken from. Of course, dad gave an excellent scolding about how we shouldn't have been caught. With the promise of three-a-day training days when we come back, we cut the communication. Of course, mom made me promise to communicate at least once a week until we came home. Otherwise, she would send the entire warrior pack. Which would be embarrassing.
The Red Moon Pack was for us to use while we were in the area. Big Paw had even cleared out the most oversized room in the packhouse for us to use if we ever needed it. When the time came, Trinity would come here and see how our world looks on a smaller level before completely overwhelming her by becoming a princess of a supernatural world. My wolf was howling in excitement. I hope she'll love it. I'll dote on her all day long, treat her like the princess she was always meant to be.
That was a long way off; I couldn't imagine her wanting to jump into our world so quickly. Then again, she was our mate. Fingers crossed she would accept us, I prayed to the goddess.
Back in my wolf form, rushing home, it was getting dark. The sunset was setting quickly the further north you traveled, and I was losing lightfast. Luckily, since Trinity's home backed into the woods, I had no problem jumping over the barbed-wired fence that kept the town borders and trotting to her backyard. I slung the bag that was in my mouth under her front porch as I cantered up the steps.
"Thaddeus?" I linked as I put my ear up to the door. There was whining on the other side of the door that sounded like Thaddeus.
"Theon," he whimpered as he pushed the door open enough so I could come in. Shutting the door with my back foot, I looked around the lightly lit living room. "What's going on?" Then I heard it.
Soft moans were coming from the bathroom. I sneaked up to the bathroom door, which was left wide open, only to see Trinity in the tub and the showerhead missing from the top of the shower spicket.
