Gillian and I had been taking turns guarding her all week.
Yes, we call it guarding, not stalking.
We kept out of sight and just watched, making sure that in everything she was safe. I was almost relieved when her father put his hands on her, because it gave me the perfect excuse to break out my silence, and now that I had my hands on her again, I’d be damned if I was going to let her go.
“What’s going on out here? Alice, is that a man? You are on the clock!” The manager poked her head out the door.
“I’m sorry ma’am,” I stepped forward, pulling Alice slightly behind the bulk of my body. “Alice has a personal emergency, and she’s going to have to leave now.”
