Selma found herself unable to sleep. It had all been so exciting! She had talked for a long time to Oliver and had left him far more cheerful as a result of her visit. Then the Duke had suggested that she came to the library as he wanted her to see the books that he had told her about earlier. She found them fascinating because they included a first Edition of Nicholas Culpeper’s Complete Herbal. Complete HerbalShe handled it, the Duke thought, as he watched her, with the reverence that a Moslem would handle his Koran or a Christian The Bible. She opened the Complete Herbal and found some of the herbs mentioned that she had shown him in the garden of The Dovecote. Complete HerbalShe read aloud to him in her musical voice the words that Culpeper had written in the seventeenth century
