Chapter 12: the truth unravels

933 Words
Frustration mounts as Sadie struggles with her broken-down car on the deserted road. Just as hope seems lost, a car pulls up to offer help. Grateful and relieved, Sadie climbs into the vehicle, unaware that it belongs to Jake. The car's interior is unsettlingly silent, and a gnawing sense of unease begins to build within her. As the vehicle navigates through familiar terrain, Sadie’s initial relief fades, replaced by mounting dread when she recognizes the approaching landmarks—Jake's house. Realization hits her hard as the car slows and stops outside the imposing, dark structure. Stepping out, Sadie is enveloped by the cold, oppressive atmosphere of the house. As she moves further into the house, the tension escalates. Each step feels like a calculated risk, with the oppressive silence and chilling environment amplifying the stakes of her confrontation with Jake. Sadie is prepared to face whatever lies ahead, driven by the urgent need for answer. As Sadie faces Jake in the cold, dimly lit room, she demands answers. “Why are you doing this to me? What do you want?” Jake’s gaze remains calm but carries an unsettling edge. “Your father was a cruel man,” he begins, his voice dripping with contempt. “He had money, but the power went to his head. He thought he could get away with anything. One day, I was just browsing online and saw that tax money was missing. My dad was a detective and discovered your father was the culprit. Your father, in turn, framed my dad and got him arrested. He tried to destroy the evidence, but I posted it online anonymously.” Sadie’s breath catches as she listens, her heart pounding. “Why did you target my mother’s business?” Jake continues, his tone growing darker. “I had to be at your father’s court case. Your mother came to me and threatened me to leave your father alone because of her business. So my men dug into her business and found it was shady—using animal products in ways it shouldn’t. I exposed it, and people stopped buying from her.” Sadie’s mind races with the weight of Jake’s revelations. “And me? Why are you fixated on me?” Jake’s expression shifts, a disturbing mix of arrogance and something darker. “When I saw you, the gullible daughter, I was intrigued. You were so pretty, and I felt this urge towards you. Even though your mother told me to leave you alone, I decided to have a little fun. I wanted to see you suffer a bit. But as time went on, I found myself falling for you. Like I said before, you’ll soon be mine.” Sadie’s breath catches as she listens, her heart pounding. “Why did you target my mother’s business?” Jake continues, his tone growing darker. “I had to be at your father’s court case. Her emotions are a whirlwind, a mix of fear, confusion, and a strange, unsettling attraction. Trying to regain her composure, she asks, “Why are you still doing this? What’s your endgame?” Jake smiles, taking a leisurely sip of his drink. “Your mother has a lot of money. She's still committing fraud, but I don’t have enough evidence to bring her down completely. I know you’re a good person, Sadie. I’m telling you this because I want you to understand where I’m coming from.” His tone then shifts to something more sinister. “By the way, Serena—she works for your mom. They’re planning to kidnap you. Once they’ve done that, they intend to defile you and get paid for it. Sadie, I have the power to protect you. I’m the only one you can truly trust.” Sadie’s heart races at the revelation. The betrayal of someone she thought was her friend, combined with the horrific plan against her, deepens her sense of dread. Jake’s claim that he is the only one she can trust only complicates her feelings. Torn between fear and an unsettling dependence on Jake’s protection, she struggles to process the enormity of the situation. Determined not to show weakness, Sadie looks Jake straight in the eye. “I need to figure this out for myself. I won't rely on you, but I will take action to protect myself and uncover the truth.” Jake then dropped his drink " Sadie u need to chill out" he said then kissed Sadie without warning, Sadie was taken aback pushed him and ran away but jake didn't follow he looked at her and thought "isn't it cute when they run, i guess I'll help her".
