August 25 We make the walk to the party. The barbecue on Brichner Street at Umby and Craig’s Victorian is an eye-opening event that Jobe and I will not forget anytime soon. Most of the guests are under forty and sport swimming suits, sunglasses, large packages between their legs, and carry colorful cocktails around with them. House rock blares in the backyard. The in-ground pool glimmers a soothing Mediterranean blue filled with a number of playful, laughing, and naked men. Some play volleyball, while others hang out in its corners, making out. The smell of a rich and sweet barbecue fills the evening and neighborhood. And just as Umby shared with me yesterday, there’s more meat on the grill than at a butcher’s market.
