“What are you doing?”
I glanced over my shoulder and caught Lara peering at my computer screen. I sat in the living room, hoping to avoid her, knowing she wouldn’t be pleased to find me still working.
Lucian was unaware that Lara had instructed me to take a “vacation”, so he wouldn’t have known that being in the office last night was against her orders.
I had chosen to stay there after dark, after Lara had retired to bed, hoping to catch up on some work because I just couldn’t let it go!
“Nothing much,” I replied, hastily closing my computer. “Just... online shopping.”
Goddess, was that the best excuse I could muster? Lara folded her arms, shaking her head.
“Are you defying a direct order from your luna?” she inquired.
“No...”
