Blast From The Past

Abigail's POV I didn't think that I would ever be in this position and I am loving every minute of it. Leah has been a great help and this week has been a breeze. I had to meet up with an important client and I am glad to say that I made a good impression on her. She was my only client so far so I had to make sure that everything was going the way it was supposed to go. I went through the case and I have since found us a way out of the law suit and I am certain that I will make a lot of people happy. The first thing I found out was the person suing Mrs Clayton had a very impressive bank account, despite not working anywhere for the last ten years. I then traced the money she had and I never thought I would say this, but I am glad that I worked in the DA's office. I had a friend who was more than willing to give me the information I needed, I found out that the lady had the money in her account because she has sued about five restaurants and stores for a slip and fall. They have all decided to settle out of court because she had papers from the doctors saying that she had broken one bone or the other. Then I noticed that in all the medical reports she had, all of them where signed by one person. So I traced the doctor and I found out that the doctor was a close friend of hers and that the x-rays were probably fake. I managed to find all that in just a day, I am new here and I don't think that I was given this case by mistake. This is probably a test to see if I can cut it under pressure. I knew then that I had to give this case my all. When I met with Mrs Clayton, it wasn't love at first sight, infact she was irritated that I was the one who was going to represent her. "Where's Jackson?" She asked as took a seat in the boardroom. She had on a fur coat and had a little dog in her bag, the dog was cute Mrs Clayton on the other hand was a nightmare, she was so rude, she didn't even greet me. "Good Morning Mrs Clayton, I am Abigail Brown, Mr Jones apologized for his absence but he is rather preoccupied at the moment, this doesn't mean that you are not an important client. They handed over the case to me because they know that it will get the attention it needs and that I am the best person for the job." I said and took the seat. "You are new here aren't you?" she asked me. "Yes ma'am, I am." I said. "Well I don't know about you being the best person for the job, do you even have any experience? I can't believe they gave my case to a newbie." she said. "Mrs Clayton I assure you that I get results, I have never lost a case in my life, I doubt if this would be the first case I lose." I said. "Fine, what do you have for me, my daughter thinks that I should just pay this woman off before the press hears about this." She said. "Well I don't think that would be a wise decision, I think that this lady is a scam artist, she has been doing this for so long she practically made a career out of this." I said and handed her the documents on my research. "So what do you suggest we do?" she asked me after she went through the pages. "I say that we have a sit down with her legal team, after I present the evidence, I think that they will want to drop the charges." I said. "You still have to prove that she is actually lying about this whole thing, how are going to do that?" she asked me. "Well I am working on that and when we meet next week, I will be closing this law suit once and for all." I said. "Okay fine, I must admit that you are good at this, keep this up and we will be best of friends." she said with a smile. "I aim to please..." I said with a smile. "you know, I have this other friend of mine who is looking for legal representation, give me your card and I'll recommend you to her." she said. Okay now this was going much better than I thought. I couldn't wait to give her card, I even walked her to the lift. This was just amazing. I must have made a really good impression with her. I smiled as I went back to my office. "I guess the meeting went well with the Dragon lady." Leah said. "Dragon lady?" I asked her with a puzzled face. "Mrs Clayton is one of the meanest people I know." she said. "Well I handled my business like a boss, she even asked for a card." I said. "Second day on the job and you are already getting recommendations? I know the bosses are going to be happy, oh they moved the meeting to Friday, you are expected to come." She said. "Alright, put it in my diary..." I said. "Oh and someone named Linda called, she said to tell you not to have any plans for lunch." She said. "Thanks Leah, I'll call her back now." I said and went inside my office. I switched on my laptop I went back to working, it must have been hours when Jackson came knocking at my door. "Come in..." I said and he made his way inside. "Well Miss Brown, it looks like you have made an impression on Mrs Clayton and I am impressed, I knew I made the decision to hire you." He said. "Thank you, she's a hard woman to please, she asked for you ." I said to Jackson. "Well you handled her very well, I just came to tell you that I am impressed. Keep up the good work." he said. "Thank you, I will." I said as he left. A few minutes later my door opened again and this time it was Linda, she didn't even knock. She also looked like she has seen a ghost. I had forgotten that she was taking me to lunch. "Hey babe..." she said and took a seat. "Hey to you too." I said and closed my laptop. "I think I saw someone from our past, or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me." She said. "Who did you see?" I asked her. "I might be wrong but I think I saw Greyson." she said. "You saw who? where? " I asked her. "Well I was downstairs waiting for the lift when he got out of the other lift, I only saw him briefly so I could be wrong." She said. "It can't be him..." I said. I know that he is probably a lawyer as well but he always said that he would want to practice in DC, not New York. He used to hate this place. It has been seven years since I last saw him but I know that he wouldn't come here. I chose New York because I know how the legal world works, the last thing I wanted was to bump into him in some courtroom so I chose the one place I knew he hated. It doesn't make sense that he would come here. "Well it has been what? seven years since I last saw him so I can be wrong." she said. I mean I don't know what I would do if I saw him, does he even look the same? I mean I know that I have changed in a big way. I am not the naive young woman he knew back then. A lot has changed since he ghosted on me. I haven't thought about this man in years and I hope it stays that way. "Well how ever long it has been, I hope that I never see him again." I said. "Fine, pack your things I am taking you out to lunch." She said. "Actually... I was hoping that we could order in..." I said. "You mean that we have to sit in your office and eat here?" She asked me. "Yes babe, we have restaurants here and we can order in." I said. "Okay then..." she said. "Good..." I said as I took my phone and called Leah. "Yes Miss Brown..." She said. "Leah can you get me the menus from the restaurants." I said. "Open your left drawer." She said. I opened the drawer and I found the menu's. I called the restaurant and ordered some food. A few minutes later the food arrived. "So how is the new job treating you?" she asked me. "better than my last job..." I said with a smile. "Girl I saw your car, you drive a Benz now..." She said with a smile. "Well I am glad that I am not using an oil leaking car anymore, this job is like a dream." I said with a smile. "Well daddy was not happy that you didn't come and work for him but he also said that this was a good company." Linda said. "Well they seem to be so far, I am just glad to have my own office for a change. " I said with a smile. We ate our lunch and my friend left. I insisted on paying, I can afford it now plus it was about time I did something for her, for a change. After she left, I thought that I would quickly go back to work but I found it very difficult to concentrate, my mind was on my ex, is it possible that she really saw him here? I hope for my sake that it was someone who looks like him. This is a big building and I am sure that if it was him, he was probably meeting up with some of the lawyers for something, maybe they're working on a case with him, apart from that, I can't see him coming to New York. If it was him I wonder what he would have done if he saw me after so many years? it feels like a lifetime ago but the memories are still fresh and the wound he left in my heart won't heal no matter what I do. A few months with him has left me with a lifetime of hurt and pain in my heart, the memory of our brief relationship is still as fresh as it was seven years ago. I can't get him out of my life no matter what, in some weird way we will always be connected. By the time it hit five o'clock I was ready to leave and go home. I unlocked my door and went in. I took off my shoes, I put my purse on the table and went to the fridge, I took out a bottle of wine and I poured myself a glass. I drank the wine and I went to my bedroom. I took a quick shower and I then I started on dinner. I didn't even know what to make of what Linda said. I went to the table and I took out my laptop. I did something I never thought I would do. I googled my ex and a lot of articles and pictures about him came up. According to the Google search on Greyson, it looks he did the one thing I never thought he would, according to the Google search he was based in New York. He has also been very busy, he was featured on Forbes a couple of times, he also did a few magazine covers and he has also been in a lot of relationships in the last few years. I guess not much has changed about him. He was named a playa and a heartbreaker and I fully agreed with them on that one. I didn't even want to love the guy, it was supposed to be just harmless fun, Get to know each other and fool around a bit. I saw how he treated the other girls he was with before me but with me it was different, he never did that, he made me feel special, feel like I was really loved, I guess I should have known that he was too good to be true. The things he said where also too good to be true. He promised me the world, he said that he would wait for me to finish school and that we would build our business together. He said that we would be a power couple. He filled my head with dreams. I thought that he meant every thing that he said. I should have known better than to trust a guy who I knew very well was a player. I had been tempted to find him so many times. I wanted closure, I wanted to know what happened, why he left like that, why he didn't even say a word. I always felt like I needed closure and knowing that we are now living in the same city, I don't think that I can do it. I don't know if I can actually talk to him. I then realised how angry I still was at him. Four years of therapy and it took Linda telling me that he saw him to make me deal with my real issues. Greyson really did a number on me. When he left, he ruined me for every man, which is why I haven't been able to open my heart to love, even if I loved the guy, I was too afraid that he would hurt me just like Greyson did. I closed the laptop and and switched off the stove. I didn't feel like cooking anymore, especially since I was planning on cooking some pasta, Greyson's favourite. I can't believe the impact this guy has has on my life even when he is not here. I took the phone and ordered some Pizza. I was about to go into my bedroom when someone knocked on my door, I knew that it was not the pizza guy so I chose to ignore it, I wasn't in a mood to see anyone tonight. "Abigail I know you're in there, open the door." Linda called out. I wasn't expecting her but it was a nice surprise, I really needed her. I went to the door and I opened it for her to come in. "Hey boo..." She said and came in. "Twice in one day? I must be doing something right." I said with a smile. "Well I have some news for you." she said. "Okay, what is it?" I asked her as she made her way to get a glass. I watched her as she poured herself some wine. "Well, I was right earlier on, I saw Greyson at your office and apparently he lives there." She said. "You mean he lives in the same building I work at?" I asked her. "Yes, Do you remember Lisa? well anyways she said that her husband was the one who designed his apartment." she said. If Linda bumped into him then the chances of bumping into him were great, especially since I was working in the same building that he was living in. I am not ready for this. I can't see him now.
