Returning to the kitchen from the pack meeting, Billie, Jill and I stand at the counter in an uncomfortable silence. Willing ourselves to say something but nothing escaped our lips, not even a strangled whimper. We slowly move around the kitchen, preparing lunch for the pack when I smell gardenia and strawberries yet again. "Maaaateeeee! Go find him, Autumn, we've been waiting for the smell to appear again and now it has! I want my mate!" Iris begs me. I hastily finish putting the chicken pasta into a serving bowl before rushing out of the kitchen door, following the scent until I reach the stairs leading to the entrance of the pack house.
