TW: Mention of a pup loss “Mama, I’d like my hair in a fishtail braid please,” Dawn said to Lillyn, who was putting Farrah’s hair in an intricate updo. It had braids at the front and was pulled into a curled bun. They had Omega’s to help them, but Lillyn loved doing her daughter’s hair. “Whatever you want, my sweet. This night will be wonderful. I bet you will be dancing all night.” “Yeah, right. But just with the men of the family, no one that would actually be interested in us. I thought Eli’s ball was next week,” Farrah said. “Who said this was Eli’s ball?” Lillyn asked. “King Maxon, I heard him talking about Eli’s ball and when I asked if there was anything I could do to help, he said no, that tonight was all taken care of.” “Hmmm, maybe that was a little white lie. Eli’s ball is next week.” “So, then what’s tonight's ball?” Dawn asked, as an Omega was putting on the finishing touches of her makeup.” Lillyn was silent, then she pursed her lips, “It’s just a ball. You know the King always wanting to show off.” Dawn scrunched up her face, the Omega tutted and she apologized. “What do you mean, mama? King Maxon hardly ever shows off. The only time he does is when one of his pups has a birthday, and it’s usually only one ball. The Queen has given him three boys, he needs a little girl to mush him up some,” Farrah said. Lillyn chuckled. No one knew, but she did. The Queen was pregnant with their fourth pup and it was a little girl. She was just waiting for the Queen to realize she was pregnant. She was dying to talk about it with Mystic. There hadn’t been a pup born in the Royal family for a while now. Nathan and Noah’s mate gave them two boys and three girls. All between the ages of six and sixteen. The Princess gave birth to her last pup, or so she says, eight years ago. The Omega’s have been spitting out babies left and right, so there were plenty of younger children. She and Koda had Heath fourteen years ago after losing a pup between the twins and Heath. Heath liked to keep to himself. As the next Royal Beta, he was often doing duties with Koda, but other than that, he was in the Royal library most of the time. She hardly saw her youngest unless it was at meals. “Okay, Farrah, I need to do your sister’s hair. I really like this ice blue dress, darling. You look absolutely beautiful.” “Thank you. I like that it’s strapless and forms to every curve. And I really like the corset look with the mesh on the sides. And this slit isn’t too high, it just goes mid-thigh. I love my sparkly silver shoes too. I feel so pretty.” “You are very pretty sister,” Dawn said. “And you, Dawny, look absolutely stunning in your white satin dress. That off the shoulder look and the slit to your upper thigh gives it a sensual look, and you still look angelic. And I love the strappy heels.” “I love you Farrah, you make me feel pretty.” “Oh, but you are exquisite, Dawny, because you and I have the same face, and I am phenomenal looking.” Dawn erupted in peels of laughter at her sister’s antics. She loved it when Farrah acted with dramatic flair. “You are something, my love,” Lillyn said. Dawn looked at herself as she stood side by side with Farrah. They did look beautiful. Maybe tonight will be the night they meet their mate. They were looking their best, so she hoped it would be tonight. “Farrah, wouldn’t it be great if we met our mate tonight while we looked our best. Then he won’t be disappointed.” “Why would he be disappointed?” “Well, he won’t be with you. We may look alike, but you are more outgoing than I am. What if he doesn’t like a shy mate?” “Dawn, you aren’t really that shy. You just like to get to know a person before you open up, but once you do, you are just as outgoing as I am.” “That’s not true. I really have to like a person to show them my true self. I am polite to others, they think I am nice and quiet.” “You are nice and quiet until you really like someone, and then you are open and loud, just like me. You know, the only true difference between us is I have a burning temper that’s quick to rise. It takes a lot for you to lose your temper, but when you do, phew you even out scorch me.” Dawn giggled. A knock at their door had them smiling. Their mother went to finish getting ready with her own beauty team, and she said she would send someone to escort them to the ballroom. They opened the door and they both gawked at Andrew and Josh. They were dressed in tuxedos and looked absolutely gorgeous. “The Royal Seer said we should escort you to the ballroom and be your first dance partners for the evening,” Josh said, as he held out his arm for Farrah. “You look absolutely beautiful, Farrah and Dawn,” Andrew said, as he held his arm out to Dawn. The girls thanked them. As they walked, Dawn felt the buzzing under her skin again. She got a little dizzy and had to stop abruptly. “Are you alright?” Andrew asked. “Yes, I just felt something, sorry.” Farrah, are you feeling a little off? Yes, like something is about to happen. I feel like needles are pricking all over my skin. Me too. Are we just really excited? Maybe? They walked into the ballroom. The buzzing of excited voices had Dawn and Farrah trying to listen to the talk. Why was everyone so excited? “Shall we dance?” Andrew asked Dawn. She smiled and nodded. Josh also swept Farrah on the dance floor. The girls were all smiles as they danced. For an hour, Josh and Andrew danced with them and also fetched them drinks when they got thirsty. The boys told the girls that they had a wonderful time dancing with them, but they had something they were both ordered to do. The girls thanked them for a fantastic hour. I guess that was the extent of us feeling like normal girls that boys actually want to spend time with. It was nice though, Farrah. Now let’s walk around and figure out what all the talking is about. I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin. It was nice. Okay, let’s recon. Dawn chuckled. They were trying to listen to the conversations around them as they walked. A lot of the conversations were about someone's accomplishments and how distinguished someone was. Neither of the girls could tell who anyone was talking about. No name was said. They just kept saying the Commander. “Apparently, he will be appointed as the Commander of the Elite Guard.” “That position has been open for years. From all of his accomplishments, he’ll be the right person for the job.” “I heard he was absolutely massive. I also heard he was extremely handsome. I hope he’s my mate.” “Oscar got a glimpse of him, and said he looked terrifying. That he would not want to be the one at the other end of his temper.” “Where did Oscar see him?” “He was one of the drivers that drove the whole lot of them to the Royal Cottage.” “Since when does Oscar drive with the Royals?” “He just got promoted. And it was good timing. We are having our first pup.” Squeals erupted close by them. “I’m happy for her. I heard her and Oscar have been trying for three years.” Dawn said to her sister. “That’s awesome for them. I wonder who this guest is that is taking the Commander position of the Elite Guards? I always thought Maxon was holding that position for Wes?” Dawn’s eyes widened. “You don’t think?” She started. “Surely he would have written and told us he was coming home. Or someone would have told us, right?” Farrah said, now her eyes widened and kind of bugging out. “No, you’re right. Someone would have told us,” Dawn said. Suddenly, there was a commotion at the ballroom doors. People surged forward, excited chatter rose up. Dawn looked at Farrah. They were both extremely curious about what was going on. The smell of pineapple and mint hit Dawn in the face, her mouth started to water. They were her favorite scents. “Dawny, do you smell pineapple?” “Yes, and Mint,” she said, inhaling deeply. “I smell pineapple and caramel. Warm caramel,” Farrah whispered, also taking deep breaths. “It is him, Farrah, it’s our mate, I just know it. He smells divine.” They both started to drift forward in a slight daze. The buzzing under their skin intensified. The crowd before them parts. They both stopped. Tears sprang to their eyes. Then they were running, for right in front of them was their Wes. They squealed as he opened his arms, and they jumped into them. Their sobs could be heard. The ballroom was in absolute silence. The crowd was stunned. The Royals were all beaming. “My girls, oh my beautiful, wonderful girls,” Wes’ booming deep voice shouted with joy. “Look at me, you two, please look at me.” They both took their heads out of his neck. They were so addicted to his smell it took a minute. “Hello my mates,” Wes said. They both gasped, then their eyes glowed like blue fire. They both gasped out the word Mate, and then they went limp in his arms. The roar that shattered the ballroom windows was pure anguish. He picked them up and ran out of the ballroom and, with his wolf speed, took them to the Royal hospital.
