7. Thrown out

1529 Words
I thought that hiding away in my room would eventually help me avoid Jace, but I was wrong. As soon as I woke up in the morning, I decided to sneak out. The entire night was spent with me dreading to meet him after embarrassing myself like that. I admit that it was wrong, but curiosity got the best of me. Jace would probably want to talk with me about last night which is something I did not want to face. I was supposed to remain as professional as I could, but ever since I entered the mansion, I have been messing up. Taking a deep breath, I slapped my shoulders, encouraging myself that it was going to get better. Maybe Jace won't notice. I could give it a day before I call him again and apologise over the phone instead of staring at his face. It's very distracting. Other than that, I would have a hard time coming up with a better excuse while staring at him. Slipping the phone inside my bag, I slid on the other side of the wall, peeking at the hallway just in case. The hall was deserted, so I stepped out of the room. I gasped as I noticed Jace sitting in the living room, his legs crossed together. So much for my plan of sneaking out! As if he felt my presence, he turned over his shoulder, "Ms Clark." I held my breath away walked towards name, trying to appear as effortless as possible. He did not need to know about my mini freak out in the room or how I was hiding the entire time from him. "Uhh...hi Mr Pisano.Buongiorno (good morning)" He had a blank look on his face as he met my eyes. Was he going to yell at me for last night? I thought, my legs pushed together  for support. "Buongiorno. Can I talk to you for a minute Ms Clark?" He raised his brow. I could see the way his jaw was clenched, shoulders upright and rigid. He must be really upset about me sneaking on him last night. Who does that? I was such an ungrateful guest! He let me stay in his house overnight for god's sake. I swallowed the lump in my throat. He motioned towards the couch, his eyes moving towards my ankle. "How is your ankle? I don't see a swelling anymore." I gleamed. It was sort of a miracle that I did not have any pain in the morning. Fortunately, I was able to walk as if nothing happened. "It's fine. I can walk without a limp now. The doctor is a genius!" I sighed, my lips stretched. I wanted to thank the doctor personally, but he did not even wait for a second. Like something was hot on his trail. "That's nice to hear. I'll pass on the regards." I nodded my head and awkwardly pulled my hands in my lap. Why was he not saying anything? Maybe it was not that serious. He might have already forgotten- "Ms Clark I want to talk about last night." Well, he didn't. I bit my tongue. I felt my cheeks heat up as I raised my head to look at him. The way he sat with grace and power, his legs parted and head tilted made me little weak in my knees. Seriously it was dangerous to explore that road. I was already way past being  unprofessional I don't want to seem indecent as well. "Can I please explain first?" I wanted to make it clear from my side so that he can have a clear perspective. Maybe in that way, he would not be angry. Licking my lips, I met his eyes, "I am sorry about last night. I don't know why did what I did but trust me I have no intention of roaming around in the middle of the night. I just wanted to get some water." Jace bobbed his head. He cleared his throat, folding his hands together, "That's alright, Ms Clark, but I need to apologise as well. I started you last night, and it was not my intention." Why was he apologising? I was the one who could not control my stupid actions. He was just too good. I dreamily thought. Dangerous territory! I warned myself trying to not think about the guy I was going to work with. "Thank you for understanding and also being a generous host. The food was amazing!" I smiled, and I noticed his lips twitch. "Greta is a magician," He remarked. I winced at her mention. It was no secret that the housekeeper resented me for some reason. He seemed ignorant of that. "How long has she been working for you?" I let it slip out of my mouth before I could think. Surprisingly Jace did not look offended at my dumb question. "Since I was a kid. She took care of all three" "Three?" "Yeah me and my two siblings" He blinked at me, not elaborating further, so I stopped. What happened to the third one? Alice never spoke about another sister or brother either. "Oh... That must be nice. Having siblings" Jace shrugged but didn't comment on it. The silence stretched for a few seconds, and I decided to use that and get back to the hotel. Before I could say anything, Jace stared at me. "Do you have siblings, Ms Clark?" His voice was intriguing; eyes intensely focused on me. A giggle escaped from my lips, "I wish. I mean I know they are a lot of work sometimes and annoying, but it's nice having someone around. From the beginning its always been mum and me but I always wanted a sister or a brother." "I used to think that too" Jace quietly said like he didn't want to admit it aloud. Just then, Alice's voice echoed around the living room. She was yelling about her dress, not being ironed. When Alice noticed me on the couch, her cheeks went red, and she hid her face in the fabric she was holding. Jace snorted, staring back at his sister, "Trust me, you are lucky you don't have a sister." Alice squealed, slapping at his arm, "What do you mean by that?!" As this started going on back and forth, I stood up, gripping my purse in my hands. I had to come back and consult the site, but before that, I wanted to take a long hot shower. My body felt sweaty, and I just wanted to get away for a while. "Uhh... I am sorry to interrupt, but I am leaving." Jace tilted his head at me, managing to block his sister's slap, "Oh yeah the hotel. Charles is out for today, Ms Clark. There are no cabs at this hour." I followed his attention towards the clock and noticed that it was 7 in the morning. "Oh," I slumped down my shoulders. He stared at me for a few seconds, "If its no problem, I'll drop you there." I shook my head, "Oh, don't bother, please! You have already done enough." "Nonsense. It's no problem. I can wait downstairs until you get ready." Alice hummed, giving me puppy eyes, "Please let him take you. I want Jace free morning today." Does she always get her work done like that? Because there is no way, someone can look at that face and deny. I gave her a thumbs-up, "Sure, Mr Pisano." Jace stood up and picked his keys from the table. He pressed a goodbye kiss to his sister and asked me to lead the way. I don't know if I was overdramatic, but he seemed less relaxed than the previous day. "So where is this hotel?" He asked as he turned on the GPS. I gave him the address and sat back. As he turned on the ignition, I noticed him tighten his grip on the wheel. Was it his first time driving?! No, it cannot be. He wouldn't have offered me to drive back home if it was his first time. "Let's go" I encouragingly said to which he took a deep breath and pressed his foot. *** The entire drive he was focused on the road, so I did not disturb him, opting to stare out of the window instead. It was not a long drive from the mansion to the hotel, so we reached within a few minutes. Also, there was no traffic on the road, which was a bonus. I got out of the car, leaning towards his window, "I'll just be done in a few minutes." He shook his head, "Take your time. I'll wait here." I nodded my head and turned around to head inside the hotel. "Stop" Mr Armand's voice made me flinch and take a step back. He came out with my luggage to which I frowned. What was going on? "You can't stay here." "What?! I already paid in advance" I shrieked as he forcefully handed me the luggage. Mr Armund pulled the money out of his pocket, "Here take it. I don't want the curse to follow here." "Huh? What are you talking about?" He motioned towards the car, "Him. Jace Pisano is a curse, and anyone associated with him is not allowed here!" ***
