SHE STILL CARE FOR HER

 Kyle’s P.O.V.

I got a call from Tom that Britanny is hospitalized again. She fainted this evening and got injured. Tom was hell worried for his mother. Since the day when Keira disappeared, Britanny had lost interest in her life She was like a living corpse. She got hospitalized for didn’t know how many times in the past 7 years due to a nervous breakdown.

“How is she?” I asked Tom as soon as I reached near her room. He was pacing in the corridor with a worried face. Uncle Peter was also there sitting on a chair. He had his head down. He was looking terribly exhausted.

“The doctors are examining her. She was okay and had dinner with us. She was smiling and talking with us as usual. She went to the living room to get something before retreating for the bed. I was about to close the door of my bedroom when I heard her faint scream. I came down quickly and found her unconscious on the floor and blood was oozing out of her head. Her head hit the corner of the center table. I don’t know what happened, Kyle… but… but.. I am scared”, I instantly put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed gently.

Suddenly we both heard footsteps and looked back in the direction of those footsteps. We saw everyone marching towards us with a worried face. Ryder immediately hugged Tom as soon as he reached near him. I told them everything that Tom told me previously. They all were hell worried for her now. She gave all of us motherly care and love when we were far away from our families. She smiled with us, feed us, and took care of us when were injured. She was like our biological mothers to us.

“Did you send the signal?” Chris whispered in my ear when no one was paying attention to us. I tightly shut my eyes and shook my head once. “I was in such a hurry that I forgot. I will send as soon as I reach back”, I looked at him with assurance. He took a deep breath but didn’t say anything to me.

“What do you think, will she come?” Robin’s voice got my attention. “She must…. She came last time and it helped in her improvement. I am sure that she will also come this time too if she is alright”, Tom eyes Arthur who was talking with Uncle Peter right now. Tom already knew now what happened in Chicago. He was also pissed with Arthur.

“I know that he is at fault this time, Tom…. Still… he was able to reach her. Whatever happened was unexpected for him too. You will not believe that he didn’t wash his hands for 4 f***ing days. Both Keira and he are stubborn and determined. I wish that he wins this time”, Chris looked at Arthur with sad eyes. Tom scoffed and looked away for time being. Every one of us needed time to process everything of our own accord. Ryder was also standing silently with us. He didn’t say anything but was looking at the door of the room where Britanny was right now.

Soon the doctor came out of the room and asked for the family. Tom and Uncle Peter immediately came forward. “Well… the wound on her forehead is not so deep. It seems that she doesn’t want to live anymore. Her vitals are not stable. She needs a push to make it through this time. I need to discuss other details with you, Mr. Pollock”, the doctor looked at Uncle Peter who just nodded in agreement. I could say that he had tears in his eyes at this moment but he blinked them off.

“She is sleeping right now. If you want to see… you can go one by one but don’t disturb her”, he warned and all of us nodded in agreement. Uncle Peter went first and then he went away with the doctor. I saw her lying unconscious on the hospital bed. She was looking so pale and exhausted. The number of years had done their work on her. She was looking older than what her was now.

“Please come back, Bri… we all need you”, I whispered to her and a tear dropped from my eyes. I wiped my eyes from the back of my hand and sniffed. With a heavy heart, I came out of the room. One looked back once at her from the door and then closed the door behind me.

Tom was all shattered and devastated. He needed his sister but she was nowhere in the picture right now. Tom decided to stay with her tonight. I insisted to stay back but he refused to leave his mother's sight for a second. Ryder comforted him as much as he could do. Arthur also talked with him. Tom was still angry with him but at last, he burst out in his embrace.

“I want her back at any cost, Arthur… promise me that you will bring her back”, his shattered voice made all of us sad. After some time, Uncle Peter also came back. By the look on his face, I could say that he had got some bad news. Tom asked him but he only smiled weakly at him while patting his back. After that, he silently went inside the room and closed the door behind him. “We will come back in the morning”, I said to Tom and he nodded while sitting at a chair. Arthur decided to stay a little longer with him.

“What did Tom mean by if she is alright?” Robin asked me when we were going towards the parking area. “Keira got hit in the last mission. Arthur couldn’t find her whereabouts after that. So… no one know whether she is alright or not and also which part of her body got hit this time”, Chris explained the situation to him and he groaned in frustration.

“Sometimes …. I have this urge to beat the s**t out of Arthur for his stunts. Why can’t he move on?” Robin yelled and I looked at Ryder who was looking away in any other direction towards the hospital. “What is it, Ryder?” I asked in concern while following his gaze. He was looking at the same floor where Bri was staying right now.

“I think… I saw someone standing there near the window of her room”, he didn’t avert his gaze from the window and suddenly our eyes widened in shock. “s**t”, we both cursed and ran towards the building again.

“Hey… what happened?” Robin asked us while running behind us. “Someone is at Bri’s floor”, I told him briefly. “What?” both yelled and we all increase our pace.

I took out my phone while pressing the escalator button. I and Robin decided to take the elevator and Ryder and Chris went to the stairs so that we could not leave anyway to getting out of the way. “Tom”, someone is on your floor”, I yelled while tapping my feet on the elevator floor. Robin held me by my shoulder.

We both ran out of the elevator as soon as the door opened at the third floor where Bri was admitted right now. We all started searching the whole floor and then the upper floors. We came from downwards and didn’t meet with anyone in our way. So… the person would be on the upper floors if not present here. Uncle Peter stayed with Bri while we searched the whole building for any suspecting figure.

“We all met at the mid-section of the fifth-floor hallways. “Did you find anyone?” Chris asked me while panting heavily. “No…. no one except the staff is present on any floor right now”, I informed them while panting heavily. Only Arthur and Ryder didn’t come back. They were at the rooftop right now.

“Let’s go to them”, Tom said and we took the stairs. “Leave me, Arthur”, we all looked at each other as soon as Ryder’s voice hit our ears. We ran instantly. It seemed that he was fighting with Arthur. I gasped when I saw Arthur holding him back at the edge of the roof.

“Ryder”, we all screamed while running towards him. He was thrashing madly. He tried to punch and kick back at Arthur but Arthur didn’t leave a room for anything while holding him back in his grip. We all pinned him at the ground and tried to calm him down. He was still yelling and thrashing madly.

“What happened?” I heard Tom asking Arthur. “She came here to meet Bri”, We all snapped our heads towards Arthur in shock. Before anyone could say something to him, he continued, “we saw her jumping from there”, he pointed out towards the edge of the roof. “Ryder tried to chase her and he was about to jump behind her when I pulled him back”, he told us and we all were startled.

Ryder was sitting on the ground now while panting harshly. He was fuming in anger and he was frustrated. “She looked at once before jumping and I can say that she has tears in her eyes”, Arthur ran the his fingers through his hair in defeat.

“So… she still cares about her, huh?” Tom mocked in irritation and we all looked at each other. Ryder was still looking down sitting calmly now. Arthur was still looking in the same direction. “By her look”, Arthur looked at Tom this time. “I can say…. She still cares about her otherwise she wouldn’t take this risk of coming here when we all are here”, he said while defending her and I smiled internally.

"I am confused", I looked at Robin in confusion. "How on earth, she got to know about Bri so early. As far as I know, we didn't contact anyone except each other since the Bri came here", he looked around at us and we all were confused now. He was right. How did she come here so fast?

"She is in this very damn city or nearby city near our office or home. She is keeping an eye on us", Ryder spoke this time and looked at Arthur. All the creases on his forehead went straight instantly. "We need to check surveillance. Now", Arthur started running back towards the stairs and we all followed him.
