Tubby's POV
"Go, Tubby, go Tubby go Tubby go Tubby go Tubby" my friends cheered as I stood in the middle of the circle break dancing...or at least attempting to break dance to Press It Up by Sean Paul. I popped out my chest struck a pose before starting to wind my hips humping air. Candy came to join me and started grinding up against me and really pressing it up. Yup, this was our usual Friday craziness. We were preparing for a party at a college kid's party that was taking place. Invite only. They text us the location and we show up.
Candy and I swayed and grinded until the song was over and she did this move and took my cap and we leaned to opposite sides and struck a pose with our heads down. When the beat died cheers erupted around up and we hi-fived. Yes, we are just that awesome. Candy put my cap back on my head but pulled it so it was covering my eyes and my fringe was sticking out. I glared at her and turned my cap around before smacking the top of her head. She is shorter than me so she didn't even see it coming. Ha, the tall guy strikes again!
I could feel someone glaring hole into my back. I turned around slowly and saw the one and only Matt Pavarotti looking at me, his face suddenly shifting from something into a tight smile which didn't reach his eyes. I quirked an eyebrow at him, he widened his tight smile to show his teeth and waved at me. Is he really waving at me? I looked around to see if there was someone behind me but there was no one who was looking at him. I turned back around to face him and he waved again. I rolled my eyes, oh please. Like I'm going to fall for the old I'm-just-your-friend-to-get-to-the-varsity-party trick again. He can go and shove his hand where the sun doesn't shine.
I'm not popular or overly emo or a geek or nerd. I'm just one of those people who blend into the paint. I think they call it invisible these days, in any case that's who I am. I'm that random guy standing in the background and I'm happy there. I'm not one of those attention-craving weirdoes who need everyone's eyes just to feel seen. I don't need to be popular to be happy. I'm fine just the way I am, thank you very much. I just want to survive high school and move on to university/college, because that's what it is in high school; survival of the fittest.
I don't even like it when people look at me for too long. It feels like their judging me for being big. I'm a big guy so what? Sure some may call it over weight but I'm not that overweight, just slightly. I just have a lot of meat and muscle and my bone structure doesn't help the cause. I weigh like 180 pounds, only slightly overweight. Doctors say that I should get involved in sports to drop the fat and make way for more muscle. I do play sport, I party hard...almost every other weekend. That can be considered as a sport, right? I mean I really break it down on the dance floor.
I would play rugby or basketball or swim, but unfortunately - or fortunately - I'm not a masochist so I will not join a team just so that the jocks can make fun of me everyday. Yeah, my self confidence isn't the highest around and it doesn't need to suffer any more.
"Yo! Tubby! Lets ride yo!" Candy shouted from her car, breaking me out of my thoughts. I shook my head to clear it and turned to face Candy.
"Aiit, chill your ass. We aint even riding in the same car, yo! I got my car" I yelled
"Yeah, well you better get your ass in it before I kick your ass! You know you take forever to get ready! Get your ass in the car, b***h" she yelled back smirking. Ah, yes my candy; always so...sweet.
"Yeah, says the b***h who takes 2 hours just to do her hair" I rolled my eyes.
"At least I'm a girl, my hair's gotta look awesome, you're a guy and you get dressed like a b***h!" she yelled smirking
"Yeah, a b***h your girlfriend loves...OOOOOh" I stuck my tongue out at her
She rolled her eyes and muttered something under her breath before starting her car. I got into my car and started to back out when Candy suddenly blocked my car with hers. It only missed my car by an inch. That b***h.
"Next time you might not be so lucky, Tubby. Say that about Eva again and I'ma go ape-s**t on your ass, bitch." She shouted out the window.
"Eh, Whatever, b***h, you know you love me....and so does Eva.." I shouted chuckling. "Owned, ey b***h?! Yeah, that's how I roll"
She rolled her eyes and flipped me a birdy before driving off like the maniac she is.
Yeah, I love that girl. We are like soul mates... except we are friends so I guess that doesn't count as soul mates but whatever. The point is we have been friends forever... well not really, only since about 6th grade but we been best friends since then. She is an absolute maniac, but unlike me, she is slim/sexy. The supposed-to-be-cheerleader-but-is-not-into-that-sort-of-stuff-but-is-still-drop-dead-sexy type, yeah I can admit that Candy is sexy and if we weren't such close friends then I probably would have gone for her. That and she's certifiably lesbian while I am straight. Although I do wonder what it's like to be with another guy but nah, I prefer keeping those kinds of wonderings to myself. But, eh, you win some you lose some right.
"Mama! I'm home!" I yelled to my mother as I walked through the door.
"Hello mi amor! How was school?" she yelled from where ever she was in the house.
"Same old same old" I replied going up to my room to start getting ready for the party.
"Amor, venir aqui" she yelled in her thick Spanish accent. My mother is Spanish and my father is French so in our house we speak 3 languages; French, Spanish and English. I would say I got most of my looks from my dad, that's why I'm lighter than my mum but I have my mums bluish-greyish eyes and her dimples. I have my father's thick black hair and slender pink lips. My attitude, I inherited that from my paternal granddad, the crazy old man. You gotta love him.
I groaned internally and walked in the direction her voice was coming from.
"Si, mama?" I asked as I entered the kitchen where she was baking some chocolate cake.
"I want you to taste this batter for me" she replied sweetly. I don't mind tasting the batter; my mum makes the best chocolate cake ever. I smiled and walked over to where she was. I dipped my finger in the creamy mixture and tasted it. I almost moaned at the flavor.
"Mmmh mama, this is perfect"
"Really?" she asked with a huge smile on her face. As if she didn't know, hmph, fishing for compliments... mothers these days.
"Yes, mama." I smiled back and kissed the side of her head. "Perfecto, eh?"
"Good. So what are your plans for the weekend?" she asked. Oh no, I know where she is going with this.
"Just going to a party with Candy and the gang"
"Ai, por dios, Raimundo Vagner! Again? All this partying is not good for you...or your school work" she complained.
"Ai, mama, I just want to have fun. Goodness, I still get very good grades and I have a scholarship to study Medicine," I repeated the same thing I do every time we have this conversation.
"But the doctor, hijo –"
"No, no no, mama, not that again please. I know sports, exercise yada yada yada. I promise I will start playing sports once I have settled in university, eh? So let me enjoy my life for now mama" I promised kissing her head and making my swift escape taking the stairs two at a time. I heard her sigh and mutter something about teenagers then laugh to herself. Yup mama, you can't resist my total adorable-ness and the dimples help a lot.
You see, although in my school I'm the wall flower, at parties I'm the awesome guy. But that's only college parties. I guess, I'm like the must-have-guest because I guess I have a lot of friends that are older than me, hence the invites. But in school, people don't even know I exist that's why I'm so glad that I'm graduating, even if I'm the guy in the year book that everybody wonders who the hell he is. Eh, I don't really care, I just want to live my life in peace.
I'm Jeremy Raimundo Vagner aka Tubby or tubz... and I am a veteran of the war we call high school.
