Alpha Zaden
The man’s scent suddenly stream from inside the tall building. His spell has worn off.
Duncan looks to me for confirmation and I nod. Immediately, he steps out of the shadows and punches in the metal door which caves beneath his fist. He should have at least reinforced the metal well if he was going to hide in there. I step through the door and follow the acrid scent of fear to the back, stopping in the middle of the room.
“You are going to die tonight.” I say into the darkness. “But your next action will determine whether you die painfully or mercifully. I’ll count to three. One. Two.”
“Wait!” He runs out of the shadows and falls to his knees in front of me. “Alpha! Please forgive me.”
“Stand up.”
I use my Alpha voice and his legs force him up. His teeth rattle with the force of his fear.
“Who do you report to?”
“A-Alpha, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t dare.”
“You dare lie to my face?”
He pales.
“Your next lie will be your last.”
“I’m sorry, Alpha. It won’t happen again.”
“Who do you report to?”
“I don’t know! I swear it to the goddess. I reported to someone in a cloak. Their face was never visible and I never even heard their voice”
“Then that means you are useless.”
He pales further.
“Pardon me, Alpha. I have a mate, she’s waiting for me at home.”
“You should have thought about her before you betrayed me.”
“I swear I didn’t want to. But every time I refused they threatened my mate.”
Duncan steps forward.
“We can have Soya screen his memories.” He says quietly.
“No. No please.” The traitor begs. The screening process is excruciating even for immortals.
“He has nothing more to give.” I say with satisfaction. This night-long hunt is going to be worthwhile afterall.
“So should we just lock him up in the dungeon?” Mira, my gamma asks.
“No.”
My hands shift into claws and I punch into his chest, ripping through hard bones and tissues in a split-second. I grip his heart in my fist and rip it out, throwing it to the floor. His face is still contorted with pain as I rip out his throat in one move. A second later, he drops like a stone and the raging fire of bloodlust in my veins finally loses its edge.
Duncan hands me a kerchief.
“We could have seen what else we could get from him.” Mira says, looking down at his body with a frown.
“A waste of time, he had nothing.”
“I know but... we could have made sure.”
“I’ll ask for your opinion, Mira, when I need them.”
“I’m just concerned about you.” She says, putting a hand on my arm. I wouldn’t tolerate any other person being in my business so much if it wasn’t her. As my gamma, she gets away with alot because I have a soft spot for her.
“You’ve been even more restless and aggressive since the stake out that didn’t work out. Are you still angry that the male got away?”
I turn my scowl on her and she shrinks away, taking her hands off me. She is right, I’ve been in a hell of a terrible mood since that night. Since the woman my mind has constantly been obsessing over, since my dreams are filled with her soft touch and her soft moans, since I wake up and stay the whole day with a hard c**k that will not be eased by another female, and since the male got away.
“I have a lead.” I muse aloud. The timing of my distraction, Dre catching wind of us and escaping before we could get our hands on him, it’s too much of a coincidence. “What have you found out about her?” I ask Duncan.
“I sent men to trace her. She came with two females so it’s only a matter of time. But they are yet to return.”
“Who is this?” Mira asks.
“No one you should concern yourself with.” I tell her.
“Why are you looking for her? You think this woman will lead you to Dre?” She asks. She’s really mouthy tonight.
“I’m positive.” I say, discarding the kerchief. I must find her, one way or the other.
“Something doesn’t feel right.” Duncan says.
“Yes.” It is like the night is holding its breaths. “I don’t like it. We will head back to our territory, after I see Uriel.”
“Alpha, I’m afraid that won’t be possible.” Duncan says.
“Why?”
“He is stuck in a delicate situation. A spell he cast went sideways and ended up summoning a demoness from the underworld. She claimed him and he rejected her and so she stole his powers. He is currently scouring the underworld for her.”
“He’s busy I see. Round things off here, we’ll head back.”
All night, the Alpha of this territory has not rested in the least. I can feel his aura in the air, warily watching me but he does not dare to make a move. On his territory, my power is incredibly diminished and his is heightened, and yet he is still much less powerful than I am. He should worry not, tonight is not my night of conquest.
“Actually... Duncan, can you go ahead of us? I have a few things to discuss with the Alpha in private.” Mira says.
He nods to me and melts into the darkness. I start jogging and Mira falls in beside me.
“Make it quick.” I say. I need to run in the woods, distract myself from unwanted thoughts of the woman.
“First, I have a few questions. It would make me really happy if you answered them.”
“I’m listening.”
“Last night... you came back to the pack smelling like a woman.”
“That’s not a question.”
“I know. Is she the reason why Dre got away?”
“I don’t know.” I say. But when I get my hands on her, she’ll have a lot of explaining to do.
“But... she’s the woman you asked Duncan to track?”
I stop running.
“Is there any reason why you are terribly into my business this night?”
She tucks her hair behind her ears, her nervous tick, and shuffles on her feet.
“You can talk to me.” I tell her and she sighs.
“I was going to wait for a better time to bring this up, but I think I’m running out of time. We’re even on another pack’s territory so this is possibly the worst time I could bring this up...”
My skin stretches tight, my wolf impatient for a run.
“Then tell me when we get back.” I say, turning away.
“Wait!” She says, gripping my arm. “I’m sorry, I blabbered too much.”
She takes a deep breath.
“I wish to be your Luna.” She blurts out.
I could have imagined fifty things I think she would be itching to say urgently. That would never be on the list.
