SMILE was plastered on Solana’s lips while typing on her mobile phone. She was responding to an email sent to her.
Though she was working as her mate’s personal bodyguard, she was still corresponding to her previous work. She did it through emails and phone calls. In the evening, she calls for the people that she needs to talk to. She scheduled a zoom meeting on the weekends.
“Hey, Solana.”
She sent the email before she glanced at Ella. The petite woman smiled at her widely.
“Coffee?”
“Do you have other drinks?”
The boss’ personal assistant laughed. Ella knew that she was not much of a fan of the caffeine-induced drink.
“Orange juice.”
“I’m in.” She stood up. “How about Ms. Bombardo?”
“I’m brewing her coffee.”
Solana stood up. She approached the other woman’s table. It was also the moment when the desk phone rings.
“I’ll prepare the boss’ coffee.”
Whistling softly, she made the coffee for her mate. It was a couple of minutes yet Ella did not join her yet.
Carrying the coffee, she went out of the pantry. It was also the moment when Ella placed the phone down.
“I’ll bring the coffee.”
“Maybe you should do that later.”
“It’s fine.”
A smile still painted on her lips, she marched towards the private office. As quiet as possible, she opened the door.
She was rooted on her feet when she saw the people inside. The boss has a visitor. She should have listened to Ella.
Solana went back out. Ella was surprised to see her too soon.
“You’re right.”
She returned the coffee back to the pantry.
“I’ll be downstairs. What would you like for lunch?”
“I want to try the rice meal from the new joint.”
“Sure.”
Instead of using the elevator, Solana went to the fire exit. She used her affinity for speed. She ran.
She found herself seated in one of the benches outside the building. People pass by like their ass were on fire.
She pulled out the phone from her pocket. She pressed the number she knew too well.
“Hello, kisbaba.”
The tall woman smiled when she heard the cheerful greeting from her father.
“Hello, apa. How’s Anya?”
“She was too happy to be here with me. She missed you a little less after I send her on a shopping spree.”
They both chuckled. “How many more pairs did she bought?”
“I did not count. Only two things can make your mother happy whenever she’s with me. To be with you and her shoes.”
“I know, right.”
“I miss you, baba. What’s wrong?”
“I just miss both of you.” She followed it with a sigh.
“Trouble in paradise?”
She laughed without humor. “Paradise is a little too far, Apa.”
“You’ll get there. Tell her soon.”
She heaved another sigh. “Yeah.”
“Visit me soon, kisbaba. Your old man misses you so much. My men missed the little tomboy that runs around the place.”
“I’m no little, Apa.”
“I know but we still miss you here. They missed your cousin, too. How’s the pack?”
“We’re doing good. Calhun has his hands full with the new member of the pack.”
“I want what he has. I and your mother wanted to carry grandkids.”
“Give me a brother, old man.”
Vasil Petrov laughed heartily on the other line. “We have been working on it since your mother came, baba.”
Solana groaned. “That’s too much information, Apa. I’ll rat you out to Anya.”
Her father laughed some more. “I’ll see you soon, Solana. Have faith.”
“Thank you, Apa. I love you.”
“Szeretlek, baba.”
Solana placed her phone back to her pocket.
She felt so much better after the talk with her father. Her heavy heartfelt lighter though the scene she saw in the office kept on playing inside her head.
“It’s going to be fine, Solana.”
She smiled to herself when she heard those words inside her head.
“Hey.”
“Hey, yourself. Let’s go back to our mate.”
She stood up and made her way to the new food hub in town.
That was her wolf. She named her ‘Ombra’ which means shadow. For a literal reason, the wolf inside her will be forever her shadow or for a better word, her company.
She and Ombra have been together since she was fifteen. A year later compared to most werewolves.
Holding the takeaway lunch in hand, she rode the elevator back to the office. According to her watch, she was gone for about an hour and it will be a lunch break in thirty minutes. A great time to use the elevator just before the employees went out for noon break.
“The delicious meal is assaulting my nose.” Ella commented as she walked towards the assistant.
‘It tastes better. A friend of mine owned the joint.”
“You sure have a lot of friends here considering that you’re new in the area. It was a great benefit that they were in the food business.”
Solana chuckled. “It’s called connection, little girl.”
“By the way, the boss was looking for you. She told me to sent you in when you get back.”
“Thank you.”
She put the takeaway lunch in the pantry before she went to the office.
Solana inhaled a lungful of air before she knocked twice. She did not want to have a repeat of what happened earlier.
“Miss Bombardo, you’re looking for me.”
Villel raised her eyes from the documents she was reading.
“We have somewhere to go this afternoon.”
She nodded. “I’ll be outside when you need me.”
When the lady boss nods her head, Solana left the private office.
Ella was not at her table when she returned outside. The assistant must be in the pantry since she heard noise from there. Judging from the sound she heard, the woman must be preparing the boss’ lunch.
She sat at one of the couches in the receiving area. Her mind went to the sight she witnessed inside the private office.
Villel was kissing a guy. It was the man she saw on her first day. If she was not mistaken, he was one of the company lawyers.
More than the surprise of seeing the woman destined for her kissing another person, she was astounded by the pain in seeing Villel in the arms of another.
Contrary to the mood she had last night to this morning, she was a little gloomy.
Solana was ecstatic the day before. She and Villel had dinner together. She brought the woman to one of her favorite seafood restaurants.
She was more than happy when she learned that her mate loves shrimp. Solana had a field day removing the shrimp’s shell since she saw the lady boss eating profusely.
Her mate appeared skinny and fragile. Solana would love to put some weight on Villel’s.
The woman she saw last night was quite different from the lady boss she saw every day in EP Express.
The Villel she ate dinner with was a woman that has fewer worries. The smile on her mate’s lips was unpretentious. It was as if she was young again not running a multi-million-dollar company.
On the other hand, the tableau she saw inside the office was a situation she did not foresee. Solana was not able to put into consideration that her mate might be seeing someone.
The information she gathered was, the CEO of EP Express was single. It was never stated that she was not dating anyone. Villel is a gorgeous woman. Men would line up just to have her attention.
Solana was thankful that it was full of activity in the afternoon at the office. Her mind was focused somewhere else than the pain in her heart.
The supposed meeting of the lady boss outside the office was canceled at the last minute.
She buried herself in answering emails on her phone since they opted to stay in. At one time, Solana has to make a phone call about an issue. She also notified her father about it.
Like they did every day, Solana sent her mate up to her doorstep at the penthouse.
She was leaving and almost at the door when she heard Villel muttered something.
“I had fun last night.”
“I’m glad. Goodnight, Ms. Bombardo.” She responded without looking back.
I’m sorry, Villel, but I have a heart to mend.
