13. Sapphire Reject

The whole class was crowded at the very back as I stayed alone at the front. I tried to get my trembling fingers under control. If they thought that this was going to break me, they thought wrong. This was nothing. I had seen worse. Literally two days ago. So, I slowly got out my things as I prepared for the lesson. I was sitting with an extremely straight back and a chin raised high. But soon I felt something light hit my head and saw a note landing on my desk. It was crumpled and I shouldn’t have really paid it any attention. But curiosity killed the cat. And apparently, also me. I unwrapped the piece of paper and saw big letters in red: Sapphire Reject. A wave of giggles and cackles erupted behind my back, and I just couldn’t give them the satisfaction of laughing at my expense.
