Chapter 4

Eva’s P. O. V.

“C’mon Mia, let’s go. I will drop you at your school on my way.” I shouted from my room and picked up the other pair of shoes and began to tie the lace up in a hurry, because I did not want to be late for my class no matter how late I woke up this morning. All thanks to Mia, my lovely little sister.

“Yeah!! Yeah!!! Give me a second.” Mia yelled back from her room in no time, without even bothering to show up right in front of my eyes, and just like that, it did not take much time for me to realise what was happening here.

Mia is not even ready for school. I can even bet on that.

Yes. I know my sister very well. Cause, whenever she asks for a few more seconds, it actually means that she is already running way behind time.

“Ughhh… not again, Mia. Hurry up. We are really getting late.” I shouted loud enough for Mia to hear me clearly from her room, which was right next to mine. But I guess, by now, not just Mia, but the entire pack had got aware of the fact that we were getting late.

And for this, I am somewhat responsible.

Why?

Well, you see, even when I am a member of our pack and, on top of that, I am the princess of the blood moon empire, I can not use a mind-link like others.

Yeas, you heard me right.

Irrespective of being the alpha king’s daughter, I can not use a mind-link, neither do I have any superhuman powers like others. In short, I have no wolf even when I am called a werewolf.

The thing is, it is quite difficult to explain my situation, you see. Cause, it would be a lie if I say that I never had a wolf, because it was not the case. I actually had one and that too when I was too young to get a wolf.

Those who are normal usually get their wolf when they turn eighteen and get to shift into their wolf form on the immediate full moon night after their eighteenth birthday. But mom says that I first turned into a wolf when I was as young as one year old or two maybe, which is not so normal, you know.

And now this.

Even though it had been quite some time since I turned eighteen, I had not got my wolf back yet. Sometimes it feels like everything about me is strange, but I just cannot figure out what exactly it is. Having my wolf when I was too young, then losing her due to some unknown reason, having no abilities to mind-link or even the strength or the speed along with the senses that the other werewolves got even my friends, makes me believe that something is wrong with me probably.

And lately, other than all these, another strange thing had started to happen to me. Though I have never talked to anyone about it, but the incident like this morning did happen to me before. If I think carefully, it all started after my eighteenth birthday. Since then, I sometimes find myself waking up in some other places when I never actually went there by myself. And when I try to recall what did I do to get to that place, I hardly remember anything.

Anyway, it is not the right time to think about my problems when we are already running late. I should probably go and check on Mia instead of screaming at her from my room.

So, I picked my bag up as fast as possible and rushed out of my room after taking my bike keys along with me on my way out. Yes, that is my ride and my all-time companion. Even when I have no traits to be called a werewolf, I have this black beauty with me which always helps me feel the strength, the speed and the power which I always lacked.

But as soon as I opened my door, she was standing right in front of me. No, not Mia, but mom.

Yes, mom came to look for me early in the morning for some reason. And I can bet that she has some news. Cause, I know how mom always defends the idea of giving her children some space and waits for us patiently to go to her first whenever we need. But here she is now, which means something must have happened for sure.

“What is it, mom?” I asked and paused on my track. The worried look in her eyes did not fail to catch me off-guard when I was not at all ready to deal with another problem in my life yet. It is just that, today I was intending to go to school early as I have been absent the last Friday and missed a lot.

Last night when I was talking to Linda on the phone, she told me something funny. She said that the high-school went crazy over some hot dude who came to our school mid-term and will be joining us from now on. You see, we are best buddies and we have always been together through haven and hell since we got to know each other in our childhood. So, that is why I was kind of eager to go to school early today, as I was so very curious to see the guy for whom the entire school has gone head over heels, according to what Linda said. The funny thing is that this time, even my Linda, who is quite hard to please, got swayed by his charms, unexpectedly. At least, that was what she sounded last night over the phone. That is why I got a bit curious too.

I wanted to see who that guy is?

But, now that mom is here, I think I should drop the idea of getting to school early as she looked damn serious this time.

So, I gave up.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked once again after a few seconds when I realised that in those few seconds mom could not say a single word. Instead, she just kept looking at me with a lot of concern for some reason which I was yet to know.

“I think you should come down first. Your Dad and I need to talk to you about something.”

“Okay. Fine. I am coming. Let me inform Mia first.” I reacted fast and was about to bang on her door just when mom opened her mouth once again.

“Do not bother, honey. I already mind-linked her and she will come down soon.” Mom replied and went downstairs first.

Ahhh… I guess I forgot again.

It is just me who is not able to use such things like the mind-link and all. And Mia is not like me. She is perfect in every way and I am proud of her, but even so, sometimes I feel a bit useless in front of others.

Anyway,

I went downstairs and looked for dad. It did not take much time for me to find him as he was in the kitchen with mom already, and was helping her set up the breakfast table while discussing about something serious probably. And just when dad noticed that I had come to stand by the door of our packhouse kitchen, he finally turned to face me.

“Good morning, sweety. Here… sit down. You need to eat your meal no matter how late you are, you know.” Dad said and handed me a plate full of delicious stuff like pancake with honey, neatly pealed apple slices and some fresh juice.

“Yeah. But mom said that you wanted to talk to me about something. Is everything alright?” I asked without being able to hold myself back.

“About that. We do have something to say. But let Mia come first.” Even when Dad acted cool, but I noticed how Dad tried to avoid my gaze while speaking and pulled out the chair in the mean time, only to come and sit beside me.

Mom too, came out of the kitchen at last with plates in her hands and set them up on the table and sat down on the other side to eat with us while we all waited for Mia to bring her ass down here.

I wonder why she is always so late when she always wakes up way before me. I mean what is the use of waking up early in the morning when you know that you are always going to be late for every little thing?

Unable to hold on to my anger, I shouted loudly on top of my breath.

“MIA… Come. Down. Right. Now. Or I will come and beat you up, you lazy girl.” The entire pack house kind of trembled and every single one fell absolutely silent in no time. Though there were a very few pack members present in the house at this hour quite unlikely, still my one single roar was enough for them to become completely invisible in an instant.

I even made mom and dad startled for a second, I guess. But the outcome of such of my behaviour was amazing.

“Yeah. Yeah. I am here.” Mia ran down the stairs and stood right in front of my eyes in an instant and was all ready to leave for school.

See.

It always works.

Though I love my sister more than anything in this world, still, sometimes I could use some of the scolding to put her straight on the line.

Anyway,

Coming back to where we are.

“What’s up?” Mia asked with a broad smile on her face, knowing very well that how annoyed I am right now because of her. Still, she dared to give me that smile. She thought that her smile could melt me right away. Though she is not wrong, but it is not going to work every time, you see.

“Why can’t you…” I was about to scold her for being late but Dad stopped me.

“It is okay, Eva.

You can scold her next time. First, we need to have a quick chat. After all, you are both running late for school, aren’t you?” Dad said gently while Mom pulled the chair for her to have some breakfast first.

“Sit down. Have some food.” Mom said, knowing that Mia would take the juice only, as she had always been a very picky eater.

Anyway, I was almost done just when Dad at last cared to speak up.

“So, your mom and I were thinking that both of you should take a leave from school at least for a few days. Why don’t we go on a trip this time?” Dad said, but it sounded quite bizarre to me.

I mean, how could he ask for such a thing when he always taught us the opposite. On top of that, it is no one but Dad, asking us to take leave from school when he knows that our exams are coming. I think it is not that simple, how dad makes it look like.

Something is definitely off.

Dad intentionally wants all of us to leave this place for some reason without us knowing about the truth.

But you see. I am Eva. I have to know the truth.

“Something happened. Right Dad? You want all of us to leave so that you can keep us safe. But what happened dad? We have the right to know, even when you are concerned about our safety. We are not kids anymore.

Tell me dad?

What happened?

Is there any attack on our pack?

Did someone die?”

*Bang*

The loud thudding noise stopped me at last, only to realise that it was dad who slapped hard on the surface of the table with so much strength that it cracked on the edge. No, I could not speak further. Cause, it was my first time seeing Dad getting this much angry. But I can tell that he was not angry at me but something else. Something must have been bothering dad for all this time to react in such a way and I did not even know.

Being a bit taken aback, I slowly turned towards mom only to see those eyes which were full of concern for dad. As if she was trying to calm him down in her mind. And Mia? Well, she was absolutely silent this time.

I do not know what I am supposed to do in this situation. I guess this is getting way more serious than I was expecting it to be.

Just when I decided to drop the idea of arguing any further in such a situation, Dad chose to say the words at last,

“You are right, Eva.

I should have talked to you straight. Someone did die last night and that too in our territory. You know what that means? Someone dared to attack the blood moon empire, the strongest clan in the entire world. Which means we all must expect to fight something unexpected. Cause, until now, I used to believe that there is no one in the world who is as powerful as us. But the murder last night proved me wrong.

Something even more powerful is coming for us.”
