~~Colt’s P.O.V~~
After the conversation with Shay I knew she was right. This human was no good and he would hurt our mate, I couldn't let that happen. When I first came to him he seemed okay, a little dumb but he was okay and now that I have spent more time with him I hate him. I was able to delve deep into his mind without him knowing and I have seen first hand what he has done and what he is planning to do, I hate him. The Moon Goddess must have made a mistake sending me to him, but only she has the power to take me away from him and give me a new human.
“Moon Goddess, please, if you can hear me, please answer my prayers. This human is going to hurt our mate and I can't allow that. I can't lose my mate because of him, I would rather die than let him hurt our mate. Please help me.” I said, praying and hoping with all my heart that she would answer. I waited for a reply, a sign, anything that would let me know that she had heard me, but there was nothing. I continued to pray throughout the night, but there was still no answer. Maybe the Moon Goddess didn't want to help me, but there was no way in hell I was going to give up and kept on praying. The next day Ivy came down with the usual food and I could taste the wolfsbane in it, but I knew that my human wouldn't be able to. The wolfsbane kept me and my human weak, but that was for the best because then he couldn't figure out what I was trying to do. I started to pray again, while my human passed out and then suddenly there was a bright light and I was standing in the middle of a huge meadow, covered with flowers. I looked around, but there was no one else here and when I turned around I nearly jumped out my skin when a woman popped up beside me. She was so beautiful and had this really relaxing aura around her that made me instantly calm.
“Child, I have heard your prayers, but I would like for you to tell me more.” The Moon Goddess said, making a bench appear out of nowhere and sitting down. She patted the space next to her and I sat down, sighing. Where do I start?
“I’m sorry Moon Goddess, but the human you gave me is wrong. I’m not doubting you, but he is a cruel and horrible man. I have looked into his mind and I have seen his memories and what he is planning to do. I need your help….” I said, but the Moon Goddess just smiled at me and held her hand out.
“Give me your hand, my child, so that I can see everything for myself.” The Moon Goddess said and I placed my hand in hers. A white light appeared around us and it got brighter and brighter, until she let go of my hand and had a sad look on her face. She was silent for a few minutes and I had no idea whether I should talk or not, so I stayed quiet and waited for her to speak first.
“You are right, this man is evil and he will not stop hurting others, including your mate, Shay. I am afraid that I can only give you two choices though. You can either stay with this human and live out the rest of your life with him, but you might lose your mate at his hands. Or you can leave him and move on, your mate will be able to defeat him if he doesn't have your strength, but it would mean that you wouldn't be placed in another human.” The Moon Goddess said and I was shocked, but I knew exactly what I was going to do.
“Take me away from him. I don't want my mate to get hurt and if me leaving forever means that she is saved and safe then that is the only choice I will make.” I replied, without hesitating and the Moon Goddess smiled at me. It wasn't a sad smile though it was a happy one and that confused me. Was she happy that I wouldn't be alive?
“You have made the right choice and I am proud of you. You chose your mate above all else and I’m afraid to tell you that this was a test to measure your character and what you actually deserved, it was something I had to do.” The Moon Goddess said and it just made me even more confused.
“What does that mean?” I asked and she smiled again, placing her hand over mine.
“You have proven yourself worthy of another human, but I promise that this time I shall pick a human who isn't like him. Your mate and you will have to find each other again, but I have faith that you will. This can only happen once, so are you sure that you want to do this?” The Moon Goddess asked and I quickly nodded, happily smiling at her.
“Very well then. Good luck.” The Moon Goddess said and I was surrounded by the same white light again, but this time it felt really warm and was a lot brighter than before, it was so bright that I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face. I felt like I was floating for what seemed like hours and then suddenly I came back to earth with a thud. I opened my eyes to see the bright blue sky and the trees surrounding me. I sat up from the floor and looked around a bit, when suddenly my stomach started growling loudly, I was hungry. I decided to look around for something to eat and also find out how far I was away from my mate, but this area was so vast and it looked like I was in the forest. This was going to take more than a while to find her, but I wasn't going to stop trying. I was going to find her no matter what.
~~Ivy’s P.O.V~~
It had been two days since Shay had spoken to Colt, we decided that it was best to not communicate and let him find a solution, hopefully he had by now. It was now time for dinner and I knew what I had to do. I went down to his cell and saw him lying on the floor, he had this weird look in his eyes like he was lost or had lost something and I knew there and then that it had worked. Colt was no longer with him, but there was no way I was going to let on to him that I knew. It was time and I knew that he was weak. I made him a plate of food and the same drink as before, putting some wolfsbane in it, knowing that it worked faster on human’s and took it to him. He was still lying in the same position, but this time he looked up at me as soon as he heard me coming.
“WHAT THE f**k DID YOU DO TO ME?! MY WOLF IS GONE! I CAN'T SHIFT AND I'M SICK!! YOU STUPID f*****g b***h!!!” Carter shouted at me and and I just laughed. Colt had done it, he had succeeded and now Carter was just a mere human with no strength at all.
“My, my, my, the human thinks he can talk to me like this. No wonder your daughter left you.” I said and threw the food at him, opening the cell door.
“You want to go, then go, you're free. Run like the coward you are.” I said and he glared angrily at me.
“Who the f**k are you to call me a coward?” He asked and I smirked.
“Well the proof is in the pudding, killing your wife, throwing your daughter away. There's no telling what you did to your son or where he is. All of these things are the acts of a coward who bullies people to get his own way and as everyone knows all bullies are cowards. Come on, little one, run, run into the woods.” I said, taking the piss out of him as best I could. He stood up and walked out of the cell, but then suddenly stopped and swung his fist back at me. I grabbed his arm, breaking it and making him scream out in pain.
“I’m a much stronger woman than you think I am. Want to try again?” I asked, teasing him and pushing him away. He again tried to hit me with his other arm, but I ducked out of the way, dodging his pitiful attack.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, I’m bored now. Go before I change my mind. I’m giving you a chance to leave here.” I said, but he just smirked at me and quickly grabbed the axe from the wall next to him. He swung the axe at me and I moved out of the way just in time. I grabbed the axe from him and broke it in half before grabbing him by the neck and snapping it. I watched as the useless life he had drained from his eyes and let go of him, letting his body fall to the floor.
“Good, he truly was an evil man.” Shay said, mind-linking me and I nodded.
“Yes he was, it makes me wonder how the hell he managed to make such a beautiful daughter when he was so ugly on the inside.” I replied, shaking my head.
“Guards, I need you to take this body and burn it, burn it to ashes. I tried to set him free, but he tried to kill me and so I killed him.” I said, mind-linking two of my guards.
“Yes boss, on our way.” They both said, mind-linking me back and I ended the link. I left the cell and decided to just go head home.
“Do you think that Colt has found someone else yet?” Shay asked me.
“yes , I think he has. He must have by now, it's been two days.” I replied and she started pacing around in my head.
“Let's go look for him. I want my mate and I know you must want to see what his human looks like.” Shay said and I nodded, smirking.
“Yes your right I do, but where do we even start to look? The Moon Goddess could have placed him in anyone.” I said, but that just earned me a huffing noise from Shay.
“Feel for him, the bond between us was already created when he was in Carter, so it should be a lot easier to find him. Feel for him through the bond and it should lead us to him, kinda.” Shay said and I thought she had gone mad, but I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the mate bond. It took a while, but I finally felt a spark of recognition in the bond and I knew that he was out there somewhere, but where? I began to follow the feeling of the bond and started walking in the direction it was coming from. After four hours of running in wolf form, stopping for rest breaks and my wolf constantly bitching at me, the feeling of the bond became stronger and we had finally found him. I watched as he had finished hunting and hauled a huge hog up onto his broad shoulders. I was impressed, but I wasn't one hundred percent sure that it was him just yet, not until Shay looked at him and started bouncing around. I went behind a tree and shifted into my human form, quickly getting dressed and when I came out he was standing there, looking right at me.
“Colt, is that you.” Shay said, trying to reach out to his wolf.
“Yes babe, it's me. The Moon Goddess gave me a strong human for Ivy, so she would be pleased with him to make up for Carter. He's kind and a good hunter, as you can see. He's nothing like Carter is.” Colt replied, mind-linking Shay and I could feel how happy she was.
“Ivy, it's him, it's him. Go to him.” Shay said, mind-linking me. I walked towards him and smelled his scent, he smelled of trees and grass, a woodsy scent that had me and my wolf purring. He had shoulder length brown hair and was a tall man, standing at six foot two inches.
“MATE, MINE!” He said, looking into my eyes and smiling. He had the most beautiful bright sky blue eyes I had ever seen. I walked over to him, looking him up and down then stood in front of him.
“MATE, MINE!” I said, as he crashed his lips onto mine and pulled me closer to him. After our huge make out session we let go of each other and I grabbed the hog, helping him with it. This will be my Alpha and mate, I will rule with him. We talked for hours and got to know each other as we walked the four hours back to my home. I told him about my plan and he agreed to help me, which made me feel like I was on cloud nine. I had to make plans, but now that I didn't have Carter, how was I going to get his daughter? I still didn't even know her name as he never told me and only referred to her as that b***h. Was it even worth taking Carter in the first place as he was no help at all. I shook the thoughts from my head and before either of us knew it we had finally reached my home. We had talked the whole way here and the time seemed to slip by a lot faster with him here. We walked into the house and he laid the hog down in the kitchen.
“My room is upstairs, go and take a shower, I’ll be up after I've sorted this out.” I said and he nodded, kissing my cheek. I started to get the hog prepared and realised that I had no idea what I was doing, so I called for the one rogue who knew how to cook and prepare this type of meat. As soon as he came I left the kitchen and went upstairs to my room. I opened the door and saw that my mate was standing there with just a towel hanging low on his hips. He looked up at me and I saw that his eyes were happy, yet full of lust, I smiled and shut the door behind me
