Chapter 5

"It looks as if they have grown again," Freya said, sitting on a rock next to Luana as they watched Thalor and Valkyra playing in the water together. "Indeed it does," Luana said. It had been 2 weeks since the villagers were attacked. Since they all pledged their allegiance to her. The dragons were now too large to fit on Freya's shoulders. They were about the size of Eagles now. "I pray one day you can change the world for the better so no more may suffer" Luana said looking up to the sky. "It is impossible to make things better without suffering" Freya told her. "It is not as if I don't wish to do it but..." Freya paused for a moment "when there is war there is death and where death is suffering will always follow" Freya told her. "What has brought up this sudden statement?" Freya asked. "I don't know," Luana said. "I have been thinking, much about you and Sebastian," she told Freya. "How he was taken from you" she continued. "How you've handled his death thus far..." she added. "How do you do it?" She asked "how do you handle losing someone you have loved for so long?" She asked. "It's not easy," Freya told her. "But Sebastian chose to die so that the dragons may hatch..." she added. "What do you mean what does his death have to do with the dragons hatching?" Luana asked. "Dor a dragon to hatch a sacrifice must be made in the fire they will hatch from" Freya told her. There Was silence for a moment as Thalor flew over to Freya. "It is getting late, we should head back so we are not left behind," Freya said, standing up as Valkyra flew towards her. "Valkyra, Thalor, Hokinira horu hulasehme" (Valkyra, thalor, time to head back) Freya told her dragons. Valkyra and Thalor began to fly in the direction of the camp as Luana stood up and began to walk with Freya. "How much longer until we reach Roland?" Luana asked. "Only a few more days," Freya told her. "The village being so close to the border helped plenty" Freya added. "Don't move" a man suddenly said, coming out from behind a tree and pointing a sword at Freya and luana. He was a knight, a dragon rider. "Lord Calvan, it has been some time," Freya said. "I see you've finally bonded with a dragon," she added. "Yes," he said. "You will be surprised to know which one" he told her, stepping closer to her. Suddenly a large white dragon landed behind him crushing the trees that once stood where he now was. "Magnaroth" Freya said as she stared at the large dragon. "Do you fear me now princess?" He asked her. Magnaroth was the largest tamed dragon in the world, and undoubtedly the strongest as well. Any dragon who went up against him was either burned by his flames or eaten in one bite. Suddenly Valkyra flew around Freya and Luana and landed in front of Freya. "I see you've bonded with a dragon as well" he said as Thalor suddenly landed on a branch in a tree above them, causing him to look up. "2 actually" Freya told him. "It matters not" said Calvin. "No one can beat magnaroth" he added. Suddenly magnaroth let out a blood curdling roar making Freya, luana, and Calvan cover their ears. For a moment it felt as if the earth was shaking from the dragon's roar. When he finished valkyra let out a roar of her own in magnaroth's direction. "Valkyra no" Freya told her as Freya looked at magnaroth's reaction. He was a very old dragon, around 250 years old. He was a dragon known for eating his own kind as well if they had offended him. But all magnaroth did was tilt his head at the small dragon. To him she might as well have been an ant. "Why are you here Calvan?" Freya asked slightly louder than normal due to the shock magnaroth's roar caused her ears. "His majesty the king wishes for your return," Calvan said. "Sevian wishes only for my death so he may ensure I do not take back what he believed was his all along" Freya replied. "That is untrue" he told her "then what is it he wants from me?" she asked him. "His majesty has found you a husband worthy of your royal blood" calvan told her. "I ALREADY HAD A HUSBAND" Freya yelled. "He was a knight" calvan said in a cold tone. "He was a dragon rider" Freya said. "With a status higher than your own," she added. "And now he is dead," Calvan said. "His majesty has said if you do not come willingly I must take you by force" he said walking to her. "And that will involve me in killing what remains of the village you dared to travel with. Freya was silent for a moment. "My dragons stay," she said. "If only to protect the villagers while I can not" Freya whispered. "So be it," Calvan said, stepping away from her. "They will die by his majesty's hand if they return anyway might as well allow them to die a more honorable death of being separate from their bonded" he said walking back to magnaroth. Freya turned to luana. "Take the villagers and the dragons and get to Roland as quickly as possible" Freya whispered to Luana. "What of you?" Luana asked. "I will try to get there but I may die before then" she said. "You must protect valkyra and Thalor. They are far too young to fight for themselves" she said. "Now I beg of you go quickly" she said. Luana nodded and began to run in the direction of the camp. "Valkyra, Thalor turuottruna luana laqwamuj jeburuhorasehho ferabu (Valkyra, Thalor follow Luana and protect her) she told them and Thalor and valkyra quickly followed. "You promise the villagers will not be hurt?" She asked Calvan. "Yes," Calvan said simply. "Now shall we return?" He asked, holding out his hand. Freya stared at his hand for a moment before slowly taking it. TO BE CONTINUED
