“Luh,” Ella asked, “was he mad?” She kept asking herself, “Why hadn’t he come back? What did I do wrong? What did I say or might that have made him mad?” As Ella stared at the mannequin, she couldn’t take her eyes off the reflection of Reid’s stare. She couldn’t get rid of the way he looked at her before he left the room. Minutes stretched into hours, and there was still no sign of Reid in the room.
