Martin was sitting on a sofa in the parlor waiting for Alice to come and meet her, and as he saw her he stood up gently then noticed that her countenance was not as bright as supposed. So he drew close to her and asked. "What is the problem sweetheart? Why the long face?"
She was shocked that he took notice of her mood despite the manner in which she had tried forcing fake smiles on her face. But since she had promised the nurse not to tell Martin about what she told her, she did as though there was nothing wrong with her mood. "I don't get it, do I look sad?"
